Chapter 93 Chapter 091: Ye Chen Treats
Page 1/3
Ye Chen glanced over the menus. There were three sets: one in Chinese with Chinese dishes, one in English listing Western courses, and one in Japanese for Japanese cuisine. The place truly was an East-meets-West novelty.
“What are you all going to have?” Ye Chen looked at each of them.
“We’re… anything!” Li Wen smiled awkwardly. To be honest, she had never eaten in such a high-end place in her life, so she was a little stiff. Qianqian, at her side, seemed even more so. Seeing how uneasy everyone looked, Ye Chen just decided to take care of the ordering himself. He ordered several Japanese dishes for the table and one glass of red wine for each.
These days, that was supposedly the trend: Japanese food paired with red wine.
“All right!” Ye Chen handed the menu to the waiter and passed him a twenty-yuan note. “Please do it quickly.”
“Yes, sir,” the waiter nodded, taking the bill and disappearing politely.
Liu Momo stared at him curiously. “Chen, why only twenty?”
“Fool,” Ye Chen said with a sly smile. “That’s the tip. If you’re dining in a place like this and have any Western-style dishes, you should tip the staff to show respect for their service. Understand?”
“Giggle,” Liu Momo nodded. “Now I get it.”
Everything Ye Chen did made Li Wen and Qianqian all the more curious. Whether it was Japanese cooking or tipping etiquette, they had never encountered either before. And he handled everything so naturally, as if he’d grown up in such surroundings. Their impression of him rose considerably.
Soon a private-room attendant rolled in a service cart stacked with delicate dishes. Several large ship-shaped platters arrived—one for each person, with Ye Chen’s in the shape of a dragon boat. In each vessel sat Japanese fare: rice balls, sashimi, fish roe…
“Wow, it’s gorgeous!” Liu Momo burst out, as girls usually can’t resist anything that beautiful. They all stared at the tableware and gasped in admiration. Whether it was Liu Momo, Li Wen, or Qianqian, none of them had ever eaten Japanese food before. This was their first time.
“Right, let’s begin!” Ye Chen laughed lightly and clapped once. “Don’t hold back. Eat with a big appetite!”
He immediately picked up slices of sashimi and rice balls with his chopsticks and shoved them in his mouth, chewing with relish. The three girls followed, each starting to eat with delighted surprise. The first bite was naturally fresh and satisfying.
…
“Wow, I’m so full,” Liu Momo said, sitting beside Ye Chen. She pulled his hand and placed it on her small stomach. “Chen, is it getting round yet?”
“Not yet,” Ye Chen shook his head.

“Hah, if it keeps rounding out, you’ll get fat,” Liu Momo huffed with a blush, then playfully shifted his hand a little lower. Ye Chen froze, then quickly pulled away. She shot him a glare.
He gave a brief embarrassed smile and asked, “Li Wen, Qianqian, are you full?”
“We’ve never been this full in our entire lives,” both answered at once.
Li Wen, curious, asked, “Brother Ye, what do you do for a living?”
Me? Ye Chen blinked and chuckled. “I used to be a bodyguard, then I switched to business operations manager. I’ll probably be unemployed soon.”
“What? Why?” Liu Momo asked right away.
“No particular reason. Just a misunderstanding with the company president,” Ye Chen said with a mild smile.
“Then… Chen, what are you going to do now?” Liu Momo asked quickly.
“Whatever, anything. These past few days I’ve been with Feng Zhixiao on that hotpot-city project in Jianghuai University. After it’s renovated, I plan to do … another project,” he said, choosing his words carefully. If he said “a casino,” she would only worry the more for him.
Hearing that, everyone let out a soft sigh.
Ye Chen called the waiter over to settle the bill. The waiter handed him the receipt with both hands. “Sir, total is one thousand six hundred.”
The girls’ eyes widened. Such a meal for that much? Had they eaten gold? Liu Momo blinked at Ye Chen. He took out his UnionPay card and said, “Card, please.”
“Of course.”
The waiter immediately brought the wireless card reader. All of them watched as the machine swallowed exactly one thousand six hundred in one swipe. The girls could only shake their heads in disbelief. Compared with a monthly allowance of eight hundred, that was nearly two months of living expenses. One meal, and it was gone.
Liu Momo winced as if in pain, though at least their side of the table had been saved. She looped her arm through his and whispered, “Chen, you swiped so much this time. Do you have enough money to spend? You’re about to be unemployed again. Why don’t you… use my card first?”
“Silly,” Ye Chen was moved by the tenderness in her voice. Why could that little thing always touch a hidden chord inside him? He almost softened to tears. He pinched her small nose and said, “You still worry Chen has no money? Don’t bother. The day I truly run out, I’ll come and ask you for it.”
“Yesss,” Liu Momo nodded immediately. Looking at her, she seemed like a pure little sprite untouched by the world.
After saying goodbye to Liu and the others, Ye Chen took a call from the office.
Li Ruo had spent the whole morning in her office, dazed and staring into nothing, replaying the scene from that morning in her mind. That brute had seen everything—every part of her. She hated him, yet she couldn’t even explain where that hatred came from. She only knew it felt like her most precious things had been taken from her by that man. Her innocence, her chastity, her dignity—he had taken them all without mercy.

After sitting through the morning in a kind of stupor, Li Ruo seemed clearer. Thinking back, Ye Chen did not seem to have done it on purpose. In the morning, when he came in, his expression was still muddled, so he likely had no intent to spy on her. But how, in that state, could he have pulled out… her… that intimate thing? The thought made her face flush red again. Perhaps, at that moment, he had only meant to go to the restroom. If blame had to be assigned, it was on her carelessness for not relocking the door, which had allowed everything to happen.
“Ziwen, has Ye Chen come to the office?”
“President Li, he hasn’t arrived,” Lin Ziwen answered at once. “I called him several times and his phone was always switched off.”
“Keep calling until it’s on!”
“Yes.”
Lin Ziwen nodded, and picked up the phone again. This time it connected on the first try. She stared at Li Ruo in surprise. “Boss, it’s through... it’s through!”
Li Ruo immediately grabbed the phone from her. On the other end came Ye Chen’s low voice. “Hello, is this Li Ruo?”
Hearing it, Li Ruo suddenly felt an inexplicable sting of grievance, and snapped, “Ye Chen, you bastard—why didn’t you come to work?”
“I…” Ye Chen paused, unsure how to explain.
“If you don’t come back to the company, I’ll fire you,” Li Ruo said, furious.
“Boss Li, I’ll come this afternoon,” Ye Chen replied softly. His voice was low, heavy with guilt toward her.
“Good. When you arrive, come straight to my office first,” Li Ruo hissed, then hung up. The way she ended the call felt cathartic, like a hard slap landing on his face. Yet the moment she put the phone down, it felt as though something had slipped away inside her—her soul, perhaps, or some vital part of her.
Lin Ziwen watched her and understood: there had been some misunderstanding between Ye Chen and Li Ruo, which had led to this outcome. Watching Li Ruo, tears gathering like pear-blossom rain, Lin Ziwen understood a little better: perhaps the boss had fallen for him.
What fate this is—a man who came up from security and a top-level chief executive, can that ever truly have a future?
Lin Ziwen gave a faint, cold laugh.
…
Ye Chen wandered aimlessly through the street, walking from Jianghuai University to Tanyya Group, at least half an hour on foot. Step by step, he moved toward the company building, and the guilt in him seemed to fade little by little.
Inside Tanyya Group, Xiaomei greeted him. Ye Chen gave no response, just turned toward the elevator. In the elevator stood a young woman, newly graduated and newly joined to Tanyya Group, with pleasant features and a good figure. She noticed him and offered a polite greeting. Ye Chen was a recognized face in the company—everyone knew him. He nodded in return. The young woman was holding a carton of milk.
