Chapter 88: Chapter 86: In Bed
His heart was pounding violently, and she could clearly feel her own tension and fear. Yet at that very moment, she suddenly heard him approach. Her nerves tightened even more. If he really lunged at her, was she truly going to use that spray? And why had she gone to such lengths to test him in the first place? Weren’t men all the same, eager to pounce the moment they saw a beautiful woman?
He came nearer, and then he climbed into bed.
Her heart leapt into her throat. The hand hidden beneath her pillow clenched tightly around the spray bottle. Then she felt his hand touch her arm. She shut her eyes at once. If he made another move, she would spray him without the slightest hesitation. But did she really want to spray him?
He gave a faint smile. “This little girl sleeps so restlessly. Does she not know that lying on her left side can press on her heart?”
With that, he gently pulled up her blanket, straightened her legs, and, fearing she might turn onto her back, adjusted her position. Even though the pair of alluring curves on her chest seemed to beckon him, he made no further move. Even though he was already aching with restraint, he still forced himself under control. After covering her properly, he walked into the adjacent bedroom.
In her room, she finally let out a breath. She drew her hand from beneath the pillow and only then discovered that her palm was slick with sweat. Even her forehead glistened faintly. A smile curved her lips as she murmured, “This man really is not ordinary. Even in a situation like that, he could still hold himself back.”
She replayed the moment in her mind and could not imagine what would have happened if he had suddenly grasped her proud firmness and then stripped away her little undergarment. Perhaps she had indeed been playing with fire. Yet somewhere in her heart, a stubborn resolve seemed to urge her on, to make her test him like this.
It had to be said: he had passed the trial. He was absolutely a man worth relying on. In her heart, his image had risen higher; before she realized it, he had already left a deep mark within her.
Ever since returning from America, she had become deeply suspicious, and her distrust of men had hardened into complete distance. Her boyfriend in America had betrayed her, and that had killed her faith in love and filled her with fear of marriage. From then on, she no longer believed in love, nor in so-called marriage. Yet his appearance had ignited a faint flame in her heart, though it was still only a tiny spark. Little did she know, a tiny spark could start a prairie fire.
Night deepened, and he could not sleep at all. Especially after seeing her pale, naked body just now, his blood was almost boiling through his veins. Men need women, and women need men; that is the law of creation. Without the joining of man and woman, there would be no human continuation.
“Ah, what an extraordinary girl,” he could not help thinking over and over.
Rustle, rustle...
Suddenly, faint noises came from outside, instantly sharpening his alertness. He listened carefully. There were footsteps, and there was the sound of someone climbing over a wall. Damn it, could it be the general’s men? Fear surged through him. Without a word, he sprang up, pulled on the clothes he had worn earlier that day, and rushed madly toward her room.
Crash...
He kicked open her door. She had just been about to fall asleep when she was startled into terror, thinking, Has this man suddenly given in to his beastly nature? She gripped the spray again.
He shouted, “Wake up, wake up!”
With her eyes shut, she did not open them. She thought he was testing whether she was asleep so he could make his move. But this time, she was horribly wrong. He raised his hand and slapped her across the cheek. A crisp crack rang out. Her eyes flew open at once, blazing with fury.
“Get up now. There are assassins outside!”
His words shocked her upright at once. The full curves of her chest swayed in the air, strikingly vivid and sweetly delicate. Panic flashed through her as she cried, “Turn around, turn around! I’m getting dressed.”
While she was dressing, the attackers outside had already launched their assault. The first to charge in were two masked men in black. They came in without a word and went straight for him. She cried out, “Oh my god, they’re here!”
“Shut up!” he roared, and in a flash drew two daggers from his waist to meet them.
Clang...
Their blades crashed together, sending sparks scattering through the air. He felt a numb tingling shoot through his arm. Their strength was indeed not to be underestimated. Clenching his teeth, he rolled across the floor to evade one of them. Then, with a sudden burst, he leapt up, stepped against the wall, and soared into the air. Gripping both daggers, he descended from above.
“Humph!”
One of them snorted coldly and slashed at him with a short blade. He blocked left and right, and the dagger in his right hand spun within his palm. The opponent fell at once. He snorted and said, “That’s all?”
“Ahh!”
The other man, as if stimulated by the sight, hurled himself at him. He took a defensive stance, his gaze fixed tightly on the opponent’s footwork. One could tell a man’s attacking rhythm from his steps; that was what the Moon Demon had taught him. Every time she fought him, she watched his feet. The instant he moved, she knew. And so, each time, he would end up defeated by her hand.
“Die!”
He bellowed, and the two crossed paths again. In the blink of an eye, the dagger fight had already passed through dozens of exchanges, sparks flying through the air. She shrank against the corner, staring at their fierce battle, barely able to believe it. To her, his movements were unexpectedly handsome. A man throwing punches before a woman’s eyes was always the most alluring sight, and the way he fought with his life on the line captivated her deeply. Though she was in danger, nothing could stop her from admiring his skill.
He and the remaining assassin traded blows again and again. On one pass, as they brushed shoulders, he ended the man’s life.
“Yan Chen...” She rushed toward him, only to realize she was wearing nothing but a half-cup bra. He gasped for breath and said, “Hurry and get dressed. Wear something loose. We have to go. It’s too dangerous here!”
“Okay!” She nodded at once, pulled a tracksuit from the wardrobe, put it on, and changed into a pair of running shoes from Anta. He grabbed her hand and dragged her outside at full speed.
In the hall sat a black-clad man with a black blindfold over one eye. Only two eyes showed beneath it, and a prominent scar cut across his face like a centipede crawling over his skin.
He and she came downstairs and saw the man seated on the sofa in the lobby. He immediately placed himself protectively in front of her. He knew this man: one of the five assassins under the general, known as the Face Slayer. Rumor said this man had once slain the joint forces of three nations in the Mekong River region by himself. He was monstrously powerful. If they fought, the only option Yan Chen likely had was to run.
He swallowed hard, then turned to her and said, “This man is extremely dangerous. When I engage him later, find a chance to run at once. Understand?”
“No, we can’t. If we leave, we leave together!” She shook her head in panic.
“No!” He glared at her. “In front of him, I only have death to offer. I’ll hold him off. You escape somehow. Don’t look back!”
“I can’t leave you behind, and you can’t die!” Hearing this, she turned pale with fright. Gripping his hand, she said, “If you die, who will protect me afterward?”
“There are plenty of people in this world stronger than me! As long as you have money, you can hire all kinds of top experts!” He immediately pulled his phone from his pocket and handed it to her. “Call Rat right now and tell him to get here. If he makes it in time, maybe I’ll still live!”
“Okay!” She wasted no time and immediately dialed Rat’s number.
The Face Slayer rose from the sofa, lifting a large blade in his hand. His eyes fixed coldly on him. He showed no fear at all. With her behind him, he could not afford fear; without her, he might already have fled by now with his own escape skills alone.
“Yan Chen, this time you won’t get away,” the Face Slayer said in Thai.
“Is that so? Then it depends on whether you have the ability to kill me,” he replied in the same language. Having lived in the Golden Triangle for so many years, he had mastered Thai, Burmese, and Vietnamese almost entirely. Facing the enemy, he showed no fear whatsoever. Instead, he gripped his bloodied dagger and said, “Your two companions are already dead by my hand.”
“Doesn’t matter. They were nothing but small fry. Your true opponent is me,” the Face Slayer said coldly.
He gave a frosty smile. The Face Slayer, blade in hand, lunged swiftly up the stairs. Her call had already gone through, and upon hearing that he was in danger, Rat and Big Prawn sprang from bed almost at once and rushed over. He shouted to her, “Run, now! Don’t stay here!”
“No, no, I can’t leave!” she cried out.
