Chapter 9 The Most Shameless Naga Siren
As soon as the blue harpies flying in the sky heard Li Mingxing's command, they began to chant incantations while circling in the air according to their initial training method. Following their chants, a massive amount of lightning elements gathered in the sky.
Naturally, these blue harpies did not launch an attack immediately. Instead, they kept circling in the sky, fixing their eyes on the naga sea sirens beneath the water. As long as more than five naga sea sirens broke the surface of the sea, they would hurl all the lightning elements in their hands right down.
However, after being attacked by Zheng once, these naga sea sirens realized something was amiss. Right now, they had no intention of surfacing at all, merely swimming around continuously in the sea and launching sneak attacks. Furthermore, their swimming speed was fast and their positions were quite scattered; even if Aisha had the heart to use a skill like the seaweed domain again, it would be impossible to ferret them out. Such a battle situation gave Li Mingxing a bit of a headache, and he no longer dared to underestimate any race in this sea area.
Of course, even without underestimating these races, Li Mingxing still had to clear them out. Otherwise, according to what the half-demon mermaid said, the number of naga sea sirens following behind him would only grow and grow. By then, no matter how powerful Li Mingxing's troops were, they would be no match for them.
Seeing the anxious look in Li Mingxing's eyes, the half-demon mermaid stepped forward and said, "Do you need our help?"
Upon hearing this, Li Mingxing immediately recalled that mermaids seemed to be the sworn enemies of the naga sea sirens for many years; perhaps they had a method to deal with naga sea sirens.
However, when Li Mingxing looked at the half-demon mermaid, the answer she gave made him somewhat disappointed, because she only offered a single sentence: "When it comes to speed in the water surpassing the naga sea sirens, there are seven or eight kinds of mermen, but as for driving the naga sea sirens out of the water, there isn't a single one. If you want the naga sea sirens to leave the seabed, the only way is to use something to lure them out."
Yet, what did Li Mingxing have on hand that could be used to attract these naga sea sirens? Li Mingxing simply could not think of anything.
Instead, the half-demon mermaid had an idea of her own. She gently tugged at the corner of Li Mingxing's garment and said, "Take out your sea vessel."
Upon a moment's thought, Li Mingxing understood the half-demon mermaid's intention. She was gambling on whether that naga would watch Li Mingxing escape just like that and remain indifferent. The stake on Li Mingxing's side, naturally, was his boat treasure. Of course, if Li Mingxing lost this gamble, he would lose this vessel, and in the future, his maritime operations would have to rely entirely on the sea vessels produced by this inner world.
After hesitating for a moment and glancing at the naga sea sirens hidden god knows where in the sea, Li Mingxing finally sighed and said, "If only I had a submarine."
Even as he said this, he still released his ship artifact and summoned a batch of centaurs, having them put on an act of preparing to board the vessel.
Meanwhile, the harpies and griffins in the sky also readied themselves for battle, waiting for the naga sea sirens to float up from the water.
However, these naga sea sirens seemed to understand Li Mingxing's intentions; in the water, they remained completely motionless. In particular, the female naga sea siren seized this opportunity to fire yet another torpedo at Li Mingxing's sea vessel. Had Aisha not reacted promptly, Li Mingxing's ship would have suffered a direct hit from that torpedo.
At this moment, Li Mingxing grew somewhat furious. He could no longer stomach the rogue tactics of these naga sea sirens. Hardening his heart, he turned back and said to Aisha, "Aisha, pour out the poison we brought along. I refuse to believe those naga sea sirens can control the toxicity in the water just like the mermaids can."
Upon hearing that Li Mingxing intended to use poison, the half-demon mermaid did not say anything, but the expressions of the mermaids behind her turned rather ugly.
Seeing the appearance of her subordinates, the half-demon mermaid had no choice but to say, "My lord, you had better choose another method. Using poison in the water is a major taboo in this inner world."
Now Li Mingxing was truly angered. He shouted loudly, "This won't work, and that has no way of luring them out. You surely don't expect me to be trapped here, do you?"
Hearing this, the half-demon mermaid looked somewhat helpless. She sighed and said, "I have no solution for this either. After all, the battles between us and the naga sea sirens have lasted for years; they have a very high resistance to our siren songs. Given their current situation, unless you can get your hands on depth charges, there is simply no way to bomb them out."
"Depth charges?" Li Mingxing sighed. "Where am I supposed to find those?"
"Actually, it's not completely impossible. In close combat, naga sea sirens uniformly use tridents, but in ranged attacks, their weapons grow increasingly powerful. The weapons used by fifth-tier naga sea sirens for attacks are precisely these depth charges. It's just that the quantity of such items is extremely small, so there are fewer than ten naga sea sirens that have reached the fifth tier in this entire sea area."
"Then mentioning it is the same as not mentioning it at all." Hearing this, Li Mingxing's complexion changed completely. He glanced up at the sky and then back at his subordinates, knowing that if he could not come up with another idea soon, his troops would begin to lose morale.
Right at that moment, Zheng also flew to Li Mingxing's side. "Ah-xing, those naga sea sirens are hiding deeper and deeper. If we keep going like this, won't it drag on for too long?"
"Indeed." Li Mingxing nodded helplessly. "Have the harpies put away their lightning elements. Fighting like this won't hit them anyway."
Hearing this, Zheng also felt somewhat helpless. "Really, these fellows only know how to hide in the deep water. If they dare to come out, I alone could kill every single one of them."
"True. If they didn't hide in deep water and possess underwater ranged attack weapons, we wouldn't fear them at all." As Li Mingxing said this, it seemed as though he had suddenly thought of something. He glanced toward the original lair of the naga sea sirens and muttered to himself, "There are a few mermaids inside the mermaid lair, so what on earth will be inside the naga sea siren lair?"
Regarding this question, the half-demon mermaid was crystal clear. "What else could it be, other than the little ones who haven't finished training, just like in our lair? Without weapons, they possess virtually no combat power."
At this point, Zheng had already grasped Li Mingxing's intent. Mounting the black dragon beneath her, she took twenty-two griffins and flew straight out.
Only then did the half-demon mermaid understand Li Mingxing's plan, so she stopped saying anything further and instead retreated to the spot where she had originally stood to wait.
After about half an hour, Li Mingxing suddenly stood up, stowed away the boat treasure once more, and looking up at the sky, said, "They are back. Get the lightning magic ready."
Seeing this, the half-demon mermaid and Aisha immediately prepared themselves. Although the mental magic of those mermaids had no effect on the nagas, their water-element magic was still useful. Moreover, they understood clearly that this was their only chance; if they did not strike now, they would never find another opportunity to do so in the future.
As soon as they finished their preparations, Zheng flew back with the griffins. At this moment, every griffin was clutching a naga sea siren in its talons. These naga sea sirens were still struggling incessantly, trailing a continuous streak of blood all the way across.
After flying above this sea area, Zheng said nothing; she merely waved her hand, and one griffin tore the naga sea siren it grasped straight into pieces.
When those fragments fell into the sea, Li Mingxing clearly saw the seawater churn into chaos, and even some strange cries echoed from beneath the waves.
"That is the communication method of the naga sea sirens. What they mean is that this is a trap and telling others not to come out," the half-demon mermaid explained to Li Mingxing from the side.
"They will definitely come out," Li Mingxing said with absolute certainty. As he spoke, another griffin tore the naga sea siren in its talons into shreds.
By this time, several naga sea sirens in the sea had already leaped out, grasping harpoons and firing a wild volley of shots at the griffins in the sky. However, the only response they received was being torn to pieces by the griffins alongside the blowdart attacks of the white harpies.
As more and more naga sea sirens were torn apart, nearly all of the naga sea sirens in the water jumped out, except for the female naga sea siren, who still had not appeared, leaving Li Mingxing devoid of the urge to launch an active assault.
Yet, as the number of naga sea sirens in the griffins' talons dwindled, Li Mingxing had no choice but to consider the patience of this female naga sea siren. Right at that moment, the half-demon mermaid suddenly cried out, "My lord, watch out!"
Immediately afterwards, Li Mingxing leaped backward. At that instant, a massive explosion erupted right where Li Mingxing had been standing. Although Li Mingxing dodged the bulk of the attack, the blast still left him slightly injured.
Despite this, Li Mingxing showed no emotional agitation. By now, he had been driven to his wits' end by these naga sea sirens. Seeing that those naga sea sirens were already contemplating slipping back into the sea, Li Mingxing had no choice but to order the blue harpies to unleash their lightning attack ahead of schedule.
Amidst such flashes of lightning, all the male naga sea sirens perished in battle, yet Li Mingxing still failed to spot the presence of that female naga sea siren.
At this moment, Li Mingxing looked up at the sky, where three naga sea sirens still remained. Gritting his teeth, Li Mingxing commanded, "Tear them to pieces for me."
