Mo Qi came out after finishing her deposition. Although her expression remained gentle, a chilling glint was hidden deep within her eyes.

Xiao Zhang hurried over and asked, "How did it go?"

"Because of limited evidence, the police have classified this merely as an act of extremism. At most, it can only be treated as a kidnapping case. Moreover, because she might be suffering from mental illness, she could even receive a lenient sentence!"

"You almost lost your life because of this, and yet they're handling it like this? That's infuriating!" Xiao Zhang gritted his teeth.

"The police look at evidence, and we still lack sufficient proof," Mo Qi sighed. "Let's head back first and discuss it then."

When the two came out from the police station, Shen Yijue had already finished handling the matters at hand.

Judging by Mo Qi's expression, Shen Yijue knew things had not gone smoothly, but he did not press for details.

Xiao Zhang consciously walked over to the driver's seat, while Shen Yijue moved to the back seat, with Mo Qi following right behind him.

Shen Yijue said, "Find a hotel and check in."

"Understood." Xiao Zhang searched online for the best hotel in Changle County, made a phone call to reserve three rooms, and then drove over.

Mo Qi sat quietly to the side, deep in thought, saying nothing from beginning to end.

Since she did not speak, Shen Yijue did not ask.

Upon arriving at the hotel, although three rooms had been booked, Xiao Zhang took one, while Mo Qi was pulled directly into the same room by Shen Yijue.

Xiao Zhang stood outside the hallway for a moment to ensure the corridor surveillance camera couldn't see this area, before stepping away with peace of mind to arrange for lunch and buy two sets of changes of clothes for Shen Yijue and Mo Qi.

As soon as she entered the room, Mo Qi curled up cross-legged in the single-seater sofa, looking somewhat absent-minded.

Shen Yijue said, "I'm going to take a shower."

"Okay."

Seeing her state, Shen Yijue's gaze darkened slightly, yet he still asked no questions and turned on the hot water to shower.

When he came out after his shower, Mo Qi was still sitting cross-legged in the sofa, lost in thought.

Shen Yijue sighed. Whenever he was in front of her, the self-proclaimed patience of which he was so proud seemed completely useless.

"Why can't you trust me a little more?" Shen Yijue walked up to Mo Qi, leaned over with his hands braced on either side of the sofa, trapping her entirely within his arms, and said in a deep voice.

"Huh?" Mo Qi was pondering a solution to the problem when she was suddenly interrupted, and she took a moment to react.

Shen Yijue reached out and picked her up horizontally in his arms.

"Hey!" Startled, Mo Qi quickly wrapped her arms around his neck to prevent herself from falling.

Shen Yijue sat down on the sofa and settled Mo Qi onto his lap.

Mo Qi blinked twice and looked at him. "What is it?"

"How much longer do you plan to keep hiding things from me?" Shen Yijue asked.

Mo Qi still tried to play dumb. "My whole body hurts."

"Still trying to be evasive?"

Mo Qi pouted. "I am not, it really hurts."

Shen Yijue's heart still ached for her. "The doctor prescribed topical medicine. Go lie down on the bed, and I'll rub it in for you."

"I don't want to move, carry me over." Mo Qi wrapped her arms around Shen Yijue's neck, acting spoiled and petulant.

Shen Yijue looked at her.

Mo Qi's dark-jade pupils looked pitiful, yet a clever mischief was hidden in the depths of her eyes—she was utterly exasperating. But even knowing this, he still couldn't bring himself to truly punish her.

Her nemesis! Mo Qi was simply his nemesis.

Shen Yijue carried Mo Qi horizontally back to the bed. "Pull up your clothes," he said while taking the doctor's prescribed topical medicine out of the plastic bag.

Mo Qi lay flat on the bed, rolled up her sleeves, and said, "My pants are stained with mud, help me take them off." As she spoke, she had already unzipped her pants, slid them off, and pulled the hotel's white quilt up to cover her stomach and thighs.

Shen Yijue finished reading the instructions for the topical medicine and turned to look at her.

Under his gaze, Mo Qi felt her cheeks burn slightly. "What are you looking at?"

"Nothing." Shen Yijue sighed with a trace of regret, sat down on the edge of the bed, and began applying the medicine to Mo Qi, rubbing it gently.

Mo Qi muttered under her breath, "Hooligan."

"Hmm?" Shen Yijue massaged the medicine in, lifting his eyelids to look at her.

"Hehe, nothing, nothing at all." Mo Qi grinned ingratiatingly.

"Shameless." Shen Yijue continued applying the medicine earnestly and said, "I'll handle the rest of the matters here. Even if she doesn't end up in prison, she'll spend the rest of her life in a psychiatric hospital."

"How do you know?" Mo Qi glared at Shen Yijue. Meeting his 'What did you expect?' look, she couldn't help but press a hand to her forehead and groan, "Brother Xiao Zhang is a traitor."

Seeing her reaction, Shen Yijue couldn't help but find it slightly amusing. "He knows how to handle things with discretion."

"Discretion, right! He told you everything I told him not to mention." Mo Qi rolled her eyes, then burst into a smile. Despite her verbal complaints, she didn't genuinely harbor any resentment toward Xiao Zhang.

She believed that Xiao Zhang telling Shen Yijue must have been a decision made after careful deliberation.

Shen Yijue sighed and was about to say something else when the little wolf cub, which had been lying on the blanket sleeping, dragged its hind legs and walked over with a limp, letting out a soft whine.

"Little guy, what's wrong?" Mo Qi poked her head out to look.

Shen Yijue bent down to pick up the wolf cub.

The wolf cub looked at him for a few moments, then glanced at Mo Qi, before deciding not to struggle.

Shen Yijue placed it on the bed. Mo Qi rubbed its head and examined its injured hind leg. "Does your leg hurt?"

The wolf cub let out a low cry, nuzzled Mo Qi's palm, curled its body up beside her, and went back to sleep.

Shen Yijue frowned slightly, while Mo Qi was left between laughter and tears, saying softly, "The little guy has mistaken me for its mother."

Shen Yijue asked, "You're planning to keep it with you?"

"For now, that's the only option. Look at how skinny and tiny it is; if we send it back to the mountains, it definitely won't survive."

"We could send it to a zoo." After all, it was a wolf, and Shen Yijue wasn't entirely at ease with Mo Qi keeping it around.

"Is a zoo a place for living things?" Mo Qi pouted and rolled her eyes. "The little guy is so smart, it's not suited for that kind of enclosed environment. What's the difference between that and a prison?"

From the very beginning, Mo Qi had never considered sending the wolf cub to a zoo. If she really had to choose, she would rather release the wolf cub back into the mountains.

"When it grows up, it's very likely to hurt people, and keeping it by your side isn't convenient either."

When Mo Qi filmed, she often spent two or three months at a time on set. Who would take care of the wolf cub then? Constantly bringing it along obviously wasn't realistic.

Faced with this question, Mo Qi frowned, looked down at the completely unguarded wolf cub sleeping beside her, and said firmly, "It treats me like its mother now, and it saved my life. No matter what, I won't just leave it to fend for itself. Let's take it back first, we'll figure something out."

"If you're going to keep it, we'll move to the villa in the suburbs when we return to City B. There's plenty of space for it to move around there."

Mo Qi also felt that would be much better than keeping it in an apartment in the downtown area, and she readily nodded in agreement. "Okay."

"Speaking of which, the little guy doesn't have a name yet. Since we're keeping it, we should give it one." Mo Qi cupped her chin and thought seriously. "What should we call it? Erdan?"

Shen Yijue cast a look of disdain at her. "A wolf named Erdan? Do you think that's appropriate?"

Mo Qi touched her nose. "Hehe, just joking. Well, what do you think we should name it?"
