“Tut-tut, this isn’t the tone one should use when speaking to family, my dear brother,” Tang Bin said with a cold sneer tugging at the corner of his mouth, completely unfazed by Shen Yijue’s sharp words.

“Tang Bin, I don’t care how much you mess around normally, but don’t provoke me at a time like this.”

“Is it that you don’t care, or you simply refuse to acknowledge it?” Tang Bin retorted with a mocking smile, relentless.

“I don’t want to repeat myself a third time. Which hospital are you at?” Shen Yijue’s voice remained steady throughout, but those who knew him well understood he was teetering on the edge of fury.

Shen Yijue’s demeanor was cold and indifferent, but he was far from having a good temper.

Tang Bin was well aware that if he truly angered Shen Yijue, he would be the one to suffer in the end.

“The Second People’s Hospital, neurology department,” Tang Bin said before hanging up.

A young girl passing by in the corridor glanced over curiously; Tang Bin smiled at her. Her cheeks flushed pink as she giggled and quickly hurried away.

The smile vanished instantly from Tang Bin’s lips as he darkened his expression and rubbed his brow.

Since childhood, he had often heard his mother speak of how formidable his older half-brother was. Perhaps having grown up listening to tales about this half-brother by the same mother but different father, Tang Bin had, unconsciously, developed a keen interest in him, even nurturing a strong sense of rivalry.

Yet this comparison was entirely one-sided. Shen Yijue always appeared as cold as ice, seemingly indifferent to everything and everyone. Even when Tang Bin deliberately provoked him, Shen Yijue maintained that impassive expression, not even furrowing his brow.

This infuriated Tang Bin, who felt that in Shen Yijue’s eyes, he was nothing more than a rebellious, immature brat.

Before long, Shen Yijue arrived at the Second People’s Hospital.

Traveling from B City to Changle County and then so swiftly to the hospital—Tang Bin suspected that Shen Yijue might be some sort of superhuman.

Rising to his feet, Tang Bin habitually wore a slightly mocking smile and extended his hand. “King Shen, it’s a real pleasure to see you lively and well again.”

Shen Yijue, of course, recognized the sarcasm referencing the last time he was bitten by a snake.

“Where’s Mo Qi?”

Despite being a county hospital, there was a fair amount of nurses, patients, and visiting family members coming and going. Even wearing large sunglasses, Shen Yijue drew quite a few covert glances.

Some were simply spectators, others felt he looked familiar but dared not confirm. They glanced, then whispered to friends nearby.

Tang Bin’s mocking smile deepened. “That’s the difference with a big star—no matter where you go, you always have fans. Me? A small-time director sitting here for ages, not a single second glance.”

Shen Yijue’s eyes, hidden behind the sunglasses, swept coldly over him before he suddenly turned to wave at two young women lingering nearby.

The two girls were thrilled and immediately hurried over. “Excuse me, are you Shen Yijue?”

“No, I’m not,” Shen Yijue said expressionlessly, shaking his head. He pointed at Tang Bin. “But this is Director Tang; he’s close to Shen Yijue. Maybe you can get some exclusive gossip from him.”

“Really?” The two girls, ignoring the fact they were in a hospital, nearly screamed with excitement.

They looked at Shen Yijue, still convinced the real King Shen wouldn’t be here, feeling a twinge of disappointment quickly overshadowed by the thrill of learning exclusive secrets.

They immediately abandoned Shen Yijue and rushed to Tang Bin.

Tang Bin found it exasperating. Just as he said nobody noticed them, Shen Yijue had attracted fans for him. This man was truly devious!

Surrounded by the two young women, Tang Bin smiled wryly as he answered their questions, occasionally glancing up at Shen Yijue.

As the instigator, Shen Yijue stood silently nearby, sunglasses on, expression unreadable, watching the scene unfold without any concern that Tang Bin might actually reveal his secrets.

For the first time, Tang Bin tasted the bitter irony of shooting himself in the foot in front of Shen Yijue. Yet, he felt more pleased than annoyed. At least Shen Yijue was no longer ignoring him.

After finally persuading the two girls to leave, Tang Bin looked up but found no trace of Shen Yijue in the corridor.

Shen Yijue had stopped a nurse and asked, “Where is the neurology examination room?”

“Turn left here, then walk straight ahead. It’s the third room.”

“Thank you,” Shen Yijue replied and continued forward.

The young nurse’s heart raced as she stood frozen, nearly dropping the medicine tray she held. So handsome! Although the oversized sunglasses concealed much of his face.

Shen Yijue found the examination room, the door closed with a sign stating that non-staff were not allowed inside.

Though anxious inside, he could only wait outside the examination room.

The doctor conducted a thorough examination of Mo Qi’s head, finding everything normal—no concussion, no cerebral hemorrhage.

“No problems. You can sit up now,” the doctor said, filling out the medical records as he spoke.

“Thank you, doctor.” Mo Qi sat up and touched the gauze bandage on her head, smiling in gratitude.

The doctor handed her two prescriptions and instructed, “These are oral medications to be taken twice daily. As for the head wound, remember to come back every two days for dressing changes.”

“Understood.” Mo Qi took the prescriptions, unable to recognize the medicines, but the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 were clear enough. A headache and a hefty medical bill.

“Young people recover quickly, but you should still be careful. If you can avoid arguing, don’t move your mouth too much. When injured, it’s you who suffers the pain.”

She wished she could move just her mouth—but she’d have to ask others if they agreed.

Mo Qi smiled faintly. “Thank you, doctor. I’ll be more careful.”

“Avoid spicy foods for a while, and try not to drink alcohol. When bathing, don’t let the wound get wet.” The doctor waved her off, signaling she could leave.

Mo Qi clutched the prescription and glanced again at the Arabic numerals. She’d probably need to borrow some money from Tang Bin after all.

She sighed silently, then pushed open the examination room door. Upon seeing Shen Yijue standing outside, she froze for half a second before quickly retreating inside and slamming the door shut with a bang.

Shen Yijue had arrived! So quickly!

“Come out yourself, or shall I drag you out?” Mo Qi moved swiftly, but Shen Yijue was no slower.

He took long strides and stood at the examination room door, gripping the handle and pulling it open while asking in a low voice.

Mo Qi’s retreat and door slam were instinctive, but after the door crashed shut, she immediately realized she had only fanned the flames and cursed herself for being so foolish.

Though his arrival was sudden, she still had a head injury and several bruises. Given such a pitiful appearance, he wouldn’t lose his temper immediately. So why hide?

Now, things were only going to infuriate the King Shen!

“Mo Qi!” Shen Yijue called out while pulling on the door handle, but it was firmly held shut from the inside, unable to be opened.

Hence, when he uttered those two words, there was an unmistakable edge of suppressed anger beneath them.
