Chapter 103: Private Party

Mo Qi felt the fingers on her arm tighten slightly, a clear sign of Zhou Tingzi’s inner frustration. She had gone out of her way to dress up, only to end up in a place lit like a nightclub—was this some kind of joke?
“Zhao Jianglin and the others are over there. I’ll go get them; you guys feel free to hang out,” He Shuai said, leading the three into the living room before turning to fetch the guests.
Zhou Tingzi’s annoyance deepened; the evening’s purpose felt increasingly trivial.
Mo Qi, however, remained indifferent. She subtly freed Zhou Tingzi’s hand and said, “I’m a little thirsty. I’ll grab a glass of champagne. Would you like to join me?”
Just as Xie An was about to speak, Lin Zheng suddenly grasped his hand. “My new shoes seem a bit tight. Let’s sit over there for a bit.”
Zhou Tingzi added, “I’ll go greet Jianglin first.”
Mo Qi appeared not to notice Lin Zheng’s gesture. She nodded with a smile and went alone to the large bar in the living room to get a drink.
Xie An watched Mo Qi’s solitary figure, feeling uneasy. He glanced at Lin Zheng. “Where does your foot hurt? Let’s sit over there, and I’ll take a look.”
Lin Zheng looked up into Xie An’s eyes. “Have you already forgotten what Shen Tianwang said last night?”
Xie An was momentarily stunned, then lowered his head slightly. “Of course not.”
“Then why are you putting yourself through unnecessary trouble?” Lin Zheng was a little angry. She had clearly heard Shen Yijue’s words last night and felt increasingly that Xie An wasn’t worth it.
“That was Shen Tianwang’s attitude, it has nothing to do with Mo Qi. We can’t...” Xie An’s words were cut off by Lin Zheng.
“Do you really think we can go back to how things were with Mo Qi?”
“Why can’t we? I...” Xie An tried to argue but couldn’t finish.
“Can you not like Mo Qi?” Lin Zheng gave a bitter smile. “I know Mo Qi is still the same Mo Qi. The only thing that’s changed is us. But even if I’m petty, now that you’re my boyfriend, I don’t want to see that look of deep affection in your eyes when you look at Mo Qi.”
“Lin Zheng...” Xie An’s lips moved, but no words came out. He was a man; responsibility was his to bear.

“Let’s go over there,” Lin Zheng said, knowing Xie An’s character; pushing him too hard wouldn’t help. Sighing, she linked her arm with his and led him toward Zhao Jianglin and the others.
Mo Qi stood alone at the bar, holding a glass of champagne. She wasn’t in a hurry to leave, casually leaning against the tall stool, playfully crossing her legs and toying with the glass.
She understood Lin Zheng’s behavior—it was actually for Xie An’s sake. She could never offer Xie An anything beyond friendship. Slowly distancing herself now was better than letting him sink deeper into trouble.
It was just a pity about the two new friends she had just made.
Mo Qi sighed and drained the glass in one gulp.
“Miss Mo, is something troubling you?” Sister Shang appeared behind Mo Qi with a glass of champagne.
Mo Qi was momentarily startled but remained composed, turning with a smile. “Sister Shang.”
“Miss Mo, it seems like you don’t really like our Ah Shuai. Why’s that?” Sister Shang sat beside Mo Qi, bluntly and sharply questioning her.
“I don’t know where Sister Shang heard those rumors saying I don’t like Little Brother He,” Mo Qi’s expression darkened slightly. “I hope you can tell me who’s spreading this gossip. I’d like to confront them face to face. What does it mean, talking behind my back and badmouthing me in front of Sister Shang?”
Seeing the genuine anger on Mo Qi’s face, Sister Shang suppressed her doubts but smiled. “You look so serious—I was just joking.”
Mo Qi glanced at Sister Shang and finally relaxed. “Sister Shang, that kind of joke isn’t funny at all. Please don’t joke like that with me again. You nearly scared me to death.”
“Scared you to death?”
Mo Qi sighed. “I’m just a newcomer, know nothing yet. If I unknowingly offend someone, how can I ever establish myself?”
Mo Qi spoke frankly. Sister Shang’s suspicion grew stronger. Could she truly have been mistaken? Was it really not Mo Qi who attacked Ah Shuai in the restroom?
Sister Shang raised her glass to Mo Qi. They lightly clinked and took a sip before she continued, “You know how netizens always compare Ah Shuai to Shen Tianwang when he first debuted. You’re Shen Tianwang’s disciple, so I’m just...”
Sister Shang shrugged, leaving her meaning clear.
Since Mo Qi was Shen Tianwang’s disciple, she naturally stood on Shen Tianwang’s side. Sister Shang’s indirect suspicion that Mo Qi might dislike He Shuai made some sense.
Others might have been fooled, but Mo Qi knew Sister Shang was still fixated on the incident where she hit He Shuai.

But who didn’t know how to play dumb?
Mo Qi blinked innocently. “Is there really such a thing online? I don’t know about it. But Little Brother He’s popularity and status in the music world now are really no less than Shen Tianwang’s early days in the film industry. Otherwise, netizens wouldn’t compare them.”
Sister Shang knew quite well, but hearing Mo Qi say this gave her a bit of satisfaction. She modestly replied, “Not quite the same. Our Ah Shuai still has a long way to go. He needs to learn more.”
“Sister Shang, I heard you talking about me from afar,” He Shuai approached brightly, arm linked with Sun Feifei. “Don’t tell my future junior sister about my embarrassing moments. Like falling asleep during makeup and poking my eyelid—definitely don’t mention that.”
Telling others not to say something while bringing it up himself—when did He Shuai learn to tease like that?
“That was your own story. I didn’t say anything,” Sister Shang played along with a smile. “Mo Qi, don’t be fooled by how sunny and handsome Ah Shuai is. He’s still just a kid. He even cries when fans fall.”
Ugh! Mo Qi felt disgusted, almost nauseous, but still forced a look of admiration.
He Shuai sheepishly let go of Sun Feifei’s hand and put his arm around Sister Shang’s shoulder, acting spoiled. “Sister Shang, men crying is the most embarrassing thing. Don’t say that. The music producer from ZJ just arrived. Can you go greet him?”
“Ah, work is one thing, but even at a party, I have to be your babysitter,” Sister Shang sighed, turning to Mo Qi. “I’ll go say hello to some acquaintances. Have fun, Miss Mo.”
“Sister Shang, you go ahead. Don’t worry about me,” Mo Qi smiled and stood up.
Sister Shang nodded at Sun Feifei before taking her glass to greet others.
Mo Qi watched them, amused. Sister Shang was smooth and savvy, yet razor-sharp. But when facing Sun Feifei, she didn’t hide her dislike at all—not even a fake smile.
Sun Feifei’s expression wasn’t much better when looking at Sister Shang; it seemed their mutual disdain had lasted quite a while. But when her gaze shifted to Mo Qi, her expression darkened beyond mere displeasure.
Sun Feifei forced a smile and looked at Mo Qi. “Miss Mo, I didn’t expect we’d meet again so soon.”
