Chapter 139: Oasis, Demon Lizard
Greenleaf Town
When Falcon followed me into this city, which was saturated with a militaristic atmosphere, he was immediately struck by the spectacular sight.
"Incredible! Wow... this is so different from the town I imagined!"
Looking at Falcon, I felt as if I were seeing myself when I first arrived. I chuckled softly, "Heh, I was just like you the first time I came here, but now that I face this environment every day, I don't feel that overwhelming shock anymore."
"That goes without saying..."
Falcon nodded with a strange expression, remarking with deep feeling, "Most men nowadays are just like you... fickle! I’m different; I’m the ultimate good man of Era! I love only one person for life, absolutely loyal and devoted!"
Before he could finish his boast, he was met with two firm, upright middle fingers from me.
...
After mocking Falcon, I took him, the big, curious baby, on a tour around the town, letting him fully appreciate the majesty and grandeur of Greenleaf Town. It wasn't until his curiosity was thoroughly satisfied that we stopped at the city wall.
At that moment, Dr. Ye sent a message saying he had returned to the city.
"Wait! Don't rush off yet, do me a favor!" I quickly messaged him, asking him to stop leveling for the time being.
"Is this about the Dark Legion? I have good news for you; those guys have already withdrawn... They must have realized you reached level 29 and are preparing to return to Frostmyst for your advancement quest."
"That’s good news, but that’s not what I wanted to ask. I want to know... is there a boss outside Greenleaf Town suitable for me to kill? A level 25 major boss or a level 30 quasi-boss..."
As soon as the message was sent, Dr. Ye went silent on the other end. After a long while, the guy finally mused honestly:
"If it’s just you alone... I really can’t think of one, because I don't believe there is any boss weak enough to be trampled by you solo."
A blow! A painful blow indeed!
However, before I could retort, Dr. Ye added, "Of course, if you add me—the handsome, charming, and beloved super expert—the situation changes..."
I was just about to deliver a sarcastic remark when Dr. Ye’s next sentence sent a surge of excitement through me: "Heh, enough chatting. Let’s do it now. I have to spend a few nights getting my 'Quick Step' and 'Long-range Shot' skills to the top level anyway. Let's head out!"
"You've already got a target?" I asked with pleasant surprise.
"Heh, don't you know who I am? For a small matter like this, would I need to think for long?"
After Dr. Ye changed into his Demon Hunter Archer class, his tone had become infinitely more arrogant, but this was exactly what I wanted. Being able to set a target a day earlier meant being able to complete my advancement a day earlier!
After agreeing to meet at the city gate, I immediately brought Falcon to the only gate in Greenleaf Town.
During the walk, Falcon asked curiously, "What level is your friend?"
"27... maybe 28," I replied unsurely. (Although I could have checked the rankings, I didn't feel like looking into it; a one-level difference didn't mean much.)
But this answer clearly didn't fall within Falcon's expectations. He curled his lips with a strange expression, "Uh... 28..."
Noticing his disappointment, I smiled inwardly without explaining Dr. Ye's situation in detail. It wasn't until Dr. Ye, having changed his gear, walked over swaggeringly that a faint glimmer of realization appeared in Falcon's eyes.
The next moment, Falcon gasped, his mouth hanging open in disbelief:
"You, you, you're actually a hidden class!"
Watching Falcon's jaw, which was wide enough to fit two salted duck eggs, I rolled my eyes helplessly: *Sigh, this kid... too easily shocked.* (If Falcon knew my thoughts, he would definitely choke me: *You're the kid!*)
Dr. Ye just smiled faintly at Falcon’s reaction; he had heard me mention it earlier and knew why he was here. He politely reached out to greet Falcon. Falcon remained in a state of shock until we left the city, at which point he secretly complained that I hadn't told him Dr. Ye was a hidden class.
"You never asked..."
Falcon: "..."
...
After forming a party, the three of us headed out of Greenleaf Town under Dr. Ye's lead.
Along the way, Dr. Ye chose empty, deserted routes. Meanwhile, the three of us pushed the abilities granted by our "Eagle Eyes" to the limit, scanning our surroundings incessantly, not missing a single detail. Even if the Dark Legion had truly withdrawn, I couldn't be sure if they were faking it or if they had left thieves behind waiting for me to walk into a trap.
Therefore, I dared not be the least bit careless!
However, after speeding for several miles outside Greenleaf Town, the three of us were finally certain there was no one from the Dark Legion around—the stealth skill of a thief could not be maintained for long!
After confirming our safety, and after some more time had passed, Falcon asked for the eighteenth time:
"Uh... how far are you planning to go to find a boss? It wouldn't be the legendary 'Dragon Valley' or 'Abyss of Demons,' would it?" (These two places were gathering points for fifth-tier magic beasts... very far from the city... it was said to take more than half a day of full-speed travel to reach.)
Hearing the kid compare our mission to going to the Dragon Valley or the Abyss, Dr. Ye and I exchanged a tacit look and rolled our eyes at him:
"Do you have a better suggestion?"
Faced with Dr. Ye's questioning, Falcon shut his mouth obediently. In his mind, hidden classes were incredibly powerful—even stronger than a "freak" like me with a 100% compatibility rating.
Seeing Falcon’s sullen expression after being shut down, I sighed sympathetically:
"Little Bird, keep a steady heart! If you knew that I have to walk for half an hour every day just to get to my leveling spot, and if you knew this freak once walked alone for a day and a night to find a place, you’d think this distance is actually quite easy."
Falcon opened his mouth in astonishment, completely speechless!
To be honest, the journey was devoid of any beautiful scenery, filled only with barren, lifeless desert, which was indeed quite depressing. What was most frightening was that I didn't know if Dr. Ye was doing it on purpose, but we rarely even saw any magic beasts along the way...
Finally, this deathly silence came to an end with the appearance of a small oasis.
Dr. Ye stopped and pointed to the small, sparse forest and the sparkling stream ahead:
"We're here!"
Falcon and I both felt a jolt and stared ahead. The stream leaning against the forest looked beautiful and serene, especially in this desolate, "uninhabited" wilderness. It was striking and enticing! However...
It would certainly be more beautiful if not for the green-skinned magic beasts moving through the forest and along the stream banks!
While pondering, I scanned the green-skinned beasts shifting positions and glanced at Falcon. He understood immediately and, without a word, approached the small oasis!
When he returned, he first looked at Dr. Ye with amazement, then nodded to me:
"Level is correct. Level 25 Green Lizards, and a Level 25 Boss Magic Lizard."
As soon as he finished speaking, Dr. Ye nodded, seemingly very satisfied with his deduction, and quickly said:
"Good! Let's talk about the Magic Lizard. It excels in water-based magic; its magic attack should be between 40 and 50 points. Also, its speed is not much slower than yours. Kirin, you must be careful; you absolutely cannot give it a chance to use magic on you... once the frost effect kicks in, you’re doomed! Uh... scratch that, it should be, as long as you're hit by its magic, you're done for."
"..."
I didn't doubt Dr. Ye’s warning and nodded solemnly.
Facing a boss, I would naturally be on my guard, not giving it a chance to attack me. My HP really couldn't take a hit from it—Dr. Ye had already told me the basics on the way, and I had already made a few plans in my head...
The only trouble now was the Green Lizards near the Magic Lizard.
Although their attack and defense weren't great, according to Dr. Ye... these Green Lizards were skilled archers, and their attacks were "Frost Arrows" that carried a freezing effect. With their help, dealing with the Magic Lizard would be a major headache!
"Alright, 'Green Lizards' will be handled by me and Falcon to lure them away. You handle the Magic Lizard and any Green Lizards it summons yourself... By the way, don't exhaust your MP. If you're struggling, just ditch the boss! We have a few hours anyway!"
"Got it! You guys be careful too!"
After telling them to be cautious, the three of us disbanded the party and simultaneously headed toward the oasis! (The advancement quest only counts if I am the one gaining the experience.)
