The blow wasn’t heavy, but it infuriated Xuanyuan Juesi. He strode forward and seized her with a swift backhand.
“So, you know martial arts? Who are you, really?”
“Hmph, just an ordinary person. You needn’t look so surprised.”
Though Sino Sang spoke with bravado, her body was firmly restrained by his powerful grip. This man’s strength far surpassed hers, as did his martial prowess. What should she do?
She needed to find a way out, and quickly. Otherwise, everything would be lost.
She truly regretted her decision to follow him so easily in the street. She should never have let herself get into this predicament. She hardly looked like a police officer now. There were villains in every era.
“I am surprised, but you’re not going anywhere. So be obedient and stay put.” One hand caught both of hers, while the other swept her up in his arms and tossed her onto the couch.
“What are you doing? Don’t you dare try anything!” If he did, she would kill him.
“Relax, I have no interest in you. You’ll be more comfortable on the couch.”
“Is that so? You underestimate my abilities! You won’t escape me.” With that, he delivered a swift strike with the edge of his hand. He was so fast that Sino Sang had no time to react.
The blow landed heavily, but she didn’t lose consciousness—her head just felt heavy. She kicked out at him, forcing him to retreat slightly, and used the chance to get off the couch.
“You don’t hold back, do you?” she said, quickly retreating several steps.
“Impressive. Most would have passed out from that.”
“Who do you think I am?” she said, bracing herself against the edge of the table, her body weakening as she faced Xuanyuan Juesi.
“I know exactly who you are. Sino Sang—am I wrong? You’re impressive, but don’t forget whose territory this is. How much longer can you hold out?”
He looked at her, knowing she wouldn’t last much longer.
“Yes, I’m running out of strength. But I won’t make things easy for you either.” She grabbed a cup from the table and hurled it at him—hard, fast, and accurate. It barely missed his face, giving her the opportunity to dash for the door.
No one was outside, but she couldn’t head for the main entrance—there would definitely be guards there. Her only chance was to escape through the back, so she ran as fast as she could.
When Xuanyuan Juesi emerged, tea had splashed into his eyes.
Though the cup hadn’t struck him, the boiling liquid had scalded his face, some of it getting into his eyes, so he failed to catch the woman immediately. Xuanyuan Juesi hated this feeling.
That a woman would dare defy him—he would make her pay for this.
“Guards!” he roared.
At his shout, men came running.

“Your Highness!” The men dropped to their knees.
“Find the princess at once! Don’t let her leave the palace—understood?”
At Xuanyuan Juesi’s command, most of the men fanned out to search. The entire palace was soon in an uproar.
Meanwhile, Sino Sang pressed forward, not knowing how far she had to go, only that she was nearly at her limit. She was on the verge of collapse, lost and uncertain how to continue.
She reached the rear garden, the sound of countless footsteps drawing closer—no doubt all searching for her. Her head throbbed painfully. What should she do next?
She couldn’t allow herself to be discovered, but hiding in the palace could only last so long. Sooner or later, she would be found, and she had no idea what to do then.
This situation was entirely of her own making. She could have refused everything, yet she couldn’t resist the lure of money.
“Sino Sang, how did you become like this? Serves you right,” she cursed herself inwardly, berating her own foolishness.
The footsteps grew louder, drawing nearer, and fear took hold of her heart.
Would she be captured by him again? She would not let herself fall into his hands.
She hid behind a rockery—luck was on her side, for the moment she remained undetected. Time crept by, and sleepiness overtook her without her realizing it. She drifted off.
When she woke, her hands and feet were bound.
“So, you thought you could escape me? Hiding behind the rockery, were you?”
Xuanyuan Juesi smiled as she awoke.
“Tying me up—what does that accomplish? Is this how you mean to present yourself to the Emperor? I’ll tell him everything!”
Sino Sang sneered, unafraid as she met Xuanyuan Juesi’s gaze.
Her cold laughter repulsed him. This woman, whom he knew nothing about, dared to sneer at him thus.
“Do you really think that day will come? I, Xuanyuan Juesi, will never allow it.”
“You’re too arrogant! I have a hundred ways to make you submit, but I won’t bother. If you wish, I could simply kill you now.”
His threat was chillingly effective. Sino Sang was silenced.
Unless she wanted to die, she had no choice but to keep quiet. For now, saying nothing was her best option.

“Playing dumb, are you? Isn’t that your specialty?”
Xuanyuan Juesi was unfazed by her silence. He looked at Sino Sang for a moment, then turned and left the room, his expression dark and troubled.
Perhaps he didn’t know what to do next.
Sino Sang lay face-down on the bed, her head spinning, and soon drifted into sleep.
When she awoke, guilt gnawed at her—she’d made a mess of everything, leaving herself no way out.
She was no delicate flower; sometimes she was petulant and stubborn.
She waited by the door, and when Xuanyuan Juesi approached, she called out to him.
“Hey, Your Highness, can we talk?” she called from a distance.
Xuanyuan Juesi turned, his brows furrowed at her lack of decorum. No matter how much she was taught, she never learned proper manners.
It was a single remark that had made Sino Sang so defiant. She began to wonder if there was something wrong with her emotional intelligence.
Why had she fallen out with Xuanyuan Juesi? There was really no need for it.
He didn’t seem intent on harming her. She ought to do what needed to be done, then find a way to leave.
That would be best for both of them.
Hearing her suggestion, Xuanyuan Juesi came over, surprised by the change in her demeanor.
“You change your face quickly, don’t you?” he remarked.
“Of course. If I didn’t, I’d have been finished long ago!” Sino Sang replied.
“Alright, so what do you want to say?”
“I think I was too immature before, too childish. I’ve decided—let’s work together again, shall we?”
Her sudden shift in attitude left Xuanyuan Juesi almost unable to believe it.
