Chapter 139: I Am Too Tired
Sometimes, the heart is the hardest thing to control, capable of stripping a person of all reason.
However, Si Nuosang and Yiyi had been kept apart; Xuanyuan Juesi had no intention of letting Yiyi get anywhere near Si Nuosang.
Given that Yiyi had dared to do such a thing alongside Qin Shuang, Xuanyuan Juesi naturally could not trust her. Although what she did ultimately benefited him, he still held her responsible.
Over this matter, Si Nuosang had argued with him endlessly, but Xuanyuan Juesi completely turned a deaf ear to it all.
On this particular day, Si Nuosang saw Xuanyuan Juesi returning from outside.
She stepped right into his path and spread her arms to block him.
"What is it, Nuosang?"
Xuanyuan Juesi looked as though he had pressing business and was in a rush to reach the study.
"Nothing much."
Si Nuosang could clearly tell otherwise, and she simply refused to let him pass.
Hurryingly, Xuanyuan Juesi lowered her hands and said, "If there's nothing urgent, let me go take care of some matters first."
"What matters?"
Si Nuosang trailed right behind him. Xuanyuan Juesi shook his head.
He continued walking forward, and Si Nuosang continued to follow. Wherever he walked, she trailed. Finally, they reached the study.
Once Xuanyuan Juesi stepped inside, he tried to close the door, but unexpectedly, Si Nuosang thrust her hand into the gap.
"If you have the guts, crush my hand off!"
Si Nuosang glared at him with wide eyes.
With no other choice, Xuanyuan Juesi helplessly opened the door again.
"What on earth do you want, Nuosang? I truly have some urgent business to attend to. Can you let me handle it first?"
"What kind of business requires you to avoid me?"
"Just some ordinary matters," Xuanyuan Juesi said, his brows furrowing. How could he possibly mention anything regarding Si Xueyi?
"Ordinary? Ordinary enough to make you this rushed and eager to dodge me? Tell me, what on earth is going on?"
Seeing him act this way, a shred of suspicion began to sprout in Si Nuosang's mind. Initially, there had been nothing amiss, but in that fleeting instant, doubt arose from the depths of her heart.
What on earth was Xuanyuan Juesi doing behind her back?
"It's nothing."
Xuanyuan Juesi pushed the door open and motioned for the attendant nearby to step back. It seemed he would be unable to deal with Si Xueyi's matter for the time being.
As Si Nuosang entered, she noticed the guard stepping away. That look in his eyes clearly betrayed a guilty conscience; Xuanyuan Juesi might be able to conceal things impeccably, but that did not mean his subordinates could do the same.
"Why did you dismiss him? Weren't you in a rush?"
Si Nuosang stared hard at Xuanyuan Juesi. He could sense her suspicion, yet he remained calm, looking at her before pulling her into his arms with a smile.
"Stop that. Let me go."
Si Nuosang struggled to pry his hands apart, but his strength was simply too great. There was no way she could shake him off.
"I won't let go. I won't," Xuanyuan Juesi muttered, acting somewhat shamelessly.
Yet Si Nuosang refused to fall for this routine, especially now that she doubted him. His evasiveness only deepened her suspicions, so she raised her foot and stomped hard down upon his.
"Ouch! Are you trying to murder your husband?"
Xuanyuan Juesi had no choice but to release her. Si Nuosang turned her head, glaring at him.
"Murder my husband? Have you even married me? Anyway, I'm in no mood to bicker with you about this. What are you hiding from me? Is it related to Yiyi that you're keeping secrets from me?"
Seeing her extremely angry, Xuanyuan Juesi realized that Si Nuosang had inadvertently handed him a convenient excuse.
Thus, he simply played along with her assumption.
"Yes, it's about Yiyi. But I won't tell you."
"You didn't do anything to Yiyi, did you?"
Si Nuosang felt a pang of worry. Xuanyuan Juesi stepped closer to her.
"Am I more important, or is Yiyi more important? Sometimes I feel like Yiyi is your husband!"
"Husband? The two of us are hardly a married couple. Spare me those labels regarding our relationship."
Si Nuosang pushed him away with both hands and looked at him seriously. Hearing him address her like that made her extremely uncomfortable.
To her surprise, Xuanyuan Juesi instantly declared, "We can be married right away, as long as you agree."
In truth, Xuanyuan Juesi had longed to bring this up, but he feared she would refuse. Now that she had brought it up herself, it was the perfect opportunity to propose it.
"What are you talking about?"
Her face suddenly flushed red. His sudden declaration caught her completely off guard and embarrassed her.
"I said, let's get married!"
"Xuanyuan Juesi, I am talking to you seriously. Don't use this to shut me up. We are talking about Yiyi right now."
"Our matter is just as urgent. How about we get married?"
Xuanyuan Juesi tugged at her hand, acting like a persistent child.
"No. You have zero sincerity right now."
"What would it take for you to feel my sincerity?"
"Tell me what you were about to discuss, and then we can talk about other things."
The initiative in this negotiation now rested entirely with her. He could not force her, so Si Nuosang forced him to consider it seriously.
"Let's talk about our marriage first, and then we can discuss Yiyi."
"Xuanyuan Juesi!" Si Nuosang roared his name, her hands clenched into fists, showing she was on the verge of losing her temper.
"I truly cannot tell you. It's not because I deliberately want to deceive you, but because you will be heartbroken if you find out. Everything I'm doing is for your own good."
Looking at her, Xuanyuan Juesi only wanted her to understand that he genuinely could not speak of Yiyi. Of course, all of this was merely to ensure that Si Xueyi's existence remained hidden.
"I don't understand. What about Yiyi could possibly hurt me? Did you kill her?"
"How could that be? I would never use such cruel methods against someone close to you. Please believe me. I, Xuanyuan Juesi, would never harm your friends or anyone you care about."
Xuanyuan Juesi was dead serious, hoping only that Si Nuosang would understand. Everything he did was simply to keep her here in this ancient realm.
That was why he had not allowed Si Xueyi to reach her side immediately.
And that was why he was determined to prevent Si Xueyi from ever reaching them and destroying everything he had fought so hard to obtain.
"Is that so?"
Si Nuosang stared at him. At this moment, she had no way of telling whether his words were true or false.
"Do you know, Xuanyuan Juesi? You make me so utterly confused right now. I don't even know what kind of person you really are anymore."
"This is who I am! Everything I've said is the truth, and everything I've done has been solely for your own good."
"Stop hiding behind the banner of 'for my own good' to justify everything you do. Do not use moral blackmail on me, and do not inflate your so-called love to excuse your own selfish desires."
Si Nuosang had witnessed far too many people commit selfish acts under the hypocritical banners of love and hatred.
"Hearing you say that really breaks my heart."
Hearing those words, Xuanyuan Juesi felt a genuine and profound sorrow.
"I don't want to argue with you anymore, because we have already argued far too many times. I am too exhausted, and I want to rest."
