Xuanyuan Juesi thought it was rather nice to see her like this. Sometimes, Si Nuosang could be more than he knew how to handle.

“Let me go. I really feel awful. I hate being tied up. My heart feels like it’s about to explode. Please, let me go.”

Si Nuosang was genuinely suffering. Seeing how she looked, and realizing that she did not seem to be lying, Xuanyuan Juesi’s heart softened. He released what he was holding, then untied the ropes around her body and hands.

But the moment he set her free, she slapped him across the face.

“What I hate most—what I hate more than anything—is being tied up. My heart felt like it was going to burst from the pain. Heaven knows how badly I wanted to slap you a few more times.”

Only after regaining her freedom did Si Nuosang begin to relax. Xuanyuan Juesi did not lose his temper over the slap. Perhaps he really had handled things badly and caused her so much distress.

“Eat.”

He looked at her as he spoke. Si Nuosang had been hungry to begin with, so she did not put on airs. She quickly began eating and soon had her fill.

“Could you please stop tying me up from now on? I don’t like that Fifty Shades of Grey stuff.”

“What fifty shades?”

“Forget it. Just don’t tie me up, all right?”

“All right.”

Xuanyuan Juesi nodded. Si Nuosang froze, the food she had just picked up suspended halfway to her mouth. Then she placed it back on her plate.

“Are you sure? You’re so unpredictable that I can’t trust you.”

There was no way this man had suddenly changed his ways. Never trust a man. That was the lesson she had learned.

“Of course. I’m sure. Because I’ve found a better way than tying you up.”

Hearing Xuanyuan Juesi say that, Si Nuosang was seized by an ominous premonition.

“What way?”

“Yiyi.”

“You’re despicable. Don’t you dare do anything reckless. Yiyi is a pitiful girl.”

Si Nuosang stared hard at him. Xuanyuan Juesi was absolutely capable of doing such a thing. She was not prejudiced against him; she simply knew him too well.

“Whether I do anything reckless depends on whether you do. Otherwise, you’ll be the one hurting Yiyi. Understand? That’s your problem, not mine.”

“Don’t push it. If you have the nerve, come at me. What’s all this nonsense about my problem and your problem? You’re only using this as an excuse to shift the blame onto me. Xuanyuan Juesi, when did you become like this? You’re becoming harder and harder to trust.”

“I, Xuanyuan Juesi, am simply incapable. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have fallen this low and allowed a mere woman like you to lecture me.”

Xuanyuan Juesi did not seem to care in the slightest. Things had already come to this. Everything had been taken from him, and he no longer cared about so-called ability or dignity.

“You…”

Si Nuosang was so furious that she could not find the words.

“Why exactly is this happening? Why are you keeping me trapped at your side? Back in Liang City, didn’t you hate me? Why are you doing this now? If we’re going to let go, then let go.”

“I still hate you.”

Xuanyuan Juesi nodded. She was not wrong.

“Bullshit. You obviously like me so much you can hardly stand it!”

This man was always saying the opposite of what he meant. Hearing Si Nuosang say that, Xuanyuan Juesi gave an awkward laugh.

It was an exaggerated laugh, clearly meant to conceal his embarrassment.

“All right. Say whatever you want.”

Was that the same as admitting it? Si Nuosang’s eyes widened as she stared at him. Then she walked over and sat down on his thigh.

“Do you really like me? Then why do you always push me away?”

“Behave yourself and speak properly.”

Si Nuosang had suddenly become so gentle with him that it was obvious something was wrong. Xuanyuan Juesi felt gooseflesh rise all over his body.

He did not know why. He feared no one. Though he was not doing particularly well at present, there was still nothing he was afraid of.

Except for Si Nuosang. Every move she made seemed capable of controlling him.

Her influence over him was too great. That was precisely why he pushed her away so often: because she had the power to control him.

“What have I done that isn’t proper? How am I not speaking properly?”

Si Nuosang was doing it deliberately, speaking in an especially coy, sugary voice. She looked every inch the spoiled, delicate little woman.

She knew Xuanyuan Juesi was susceptible to this sort of act, so she deliberately played along.

A coquettish woman was always the most effective. Ha! It seemed that principle worked everywhere.

“Si Nuosang.”

The moment Xuanyuan Juesi called her name, she knew he was about to make a move. She had no choice but to get off him, puffing out her cheeks in annoyance.

Si Nuosang was using every shameless trick she had—not only for her own sake, but for Yiyi’s as well.

Keeping this man happy would benefit both of them.

“Hurry up and eat.”

“I’ve already eaten! If I eat any more, I’ll burst. Would it make you happier if I died?”

Good grief, how much more was he planning to make her eat? Si Nuosang was about to lose her mind, so she simply answered him coldly.

Xuanyuan Juesi had merely run out of things to say, leaving him with no choice but to act this way.

“All right.”

“What do you mean, ‘all right’?”

“You don’t have to eat anymore.”

Xuanyuan Juesi truly had no way of dealing with her. The relationship between them seemed to have returned to its best days. They appeared sweet and affectionate once more.

“By the way, I want to ask you something.”

Xuanyuan Juesi suddenly looked at her.

“What is it?”

“It’s about your sister.”

“Why are you suddenly asking about her?”

“Because you told Ye Xuan about her, but you never told me.”

In truth, he had only guessed. But when he saw the look in Si Nuosang’s eyes, he knew that his guess had been right.

“How did you know?”

“I guessed.”

The moment Si Nuosang heard that answer, she realized that her expression had betrayed her. It was infuriating.

Since he wanted to hear about it, there was no harm in telling him.

“My sister is an extremely forceful person.”

“Like you?”

“Not even in the same league.”

Si Nuosang waved a hand.

“Who’s more formidable?”

“Me, of course. But my sister’s forcefulness lies in the way she conducts herself. She takes everything extremely seriously. Once she decides to resolve something, there is nothing she cannot solve. And once she gives her word, she never goes back on it. My own strength lies in my instinct for a case. I like unraveling mysteries, whereas my sister keeps pressing ever closer to the truth.”

Si Nuosang spoke at length, while Xuanyuan Juesi understood almost none of it. One thing, however, was perfectly clear: Si Xueyi was not someone who could be easily dealt with.

No wonder she had managed to escape from Yuan Qianlu so effortlessly. There had to be a reason for it.

“When the two of you fight, who’s stronger?”

“Me, of course. She doesn’t stand a chance. Ha! I knocked her flat in one punch.”

At that, Si Nuosang burst out laughing. She had remembered the time they had gone boxing at a gym. She had accidentally struck Si Xueyi with a punch and knocked her straight to the floor. Si Xueyi had refused to speak to her for several months afterward.

But it had not been her fault. Accidental injuries happened all the time.

“Really? Why are you laughing so outrageously?”
