Chapter 6: The Good-for-Nothing Third Young Lady
Luo Xia spoke while thinking to herself—her grandfather truly lived up to his reputation as an alchemist. The Bone-Melting Powder had dissipated long ago, yet he could still detect its scent? Of course! It must be that a faint trace lingered on her clothes. Her grandfather was truly formidable!
Luo Xia glanced at Luo Jingfeng. The powerful aura and authority he exuded made her all the more cautious.
When Luo Yi heard that Xiao Man and Xiao Die were dead, she stared at Luo Xia in disbelief, fury blazing in her eyes. "Are you saying Xiao Man and Xiao Die are dead?"
If looks could kill, Luo Xia would have died a thousand times under Luo Yi’s glare. Xiao Man and Xiao Die were Luo Yi’s favorites, and now, upon hearing of their deaths, she placed all the blame squarely on Luo Xia’s shoulders.
That good-for-nothing troublemaker! If it weren’t for grandfather sending for her to be tested, she never would have ordered Xiao Man and Xiao Die to torment her, and none of this would have happened. The hatred in Luo Yi’s eyes grew ever more terrifying.
She fancied herself the genius of the Luo household, accustomed to pride since childhood. She was the beloved daughter of the family, and her hatred for Luo Xia was so deep that she didn’t even bother to restrain her temper before Luo Jingfeng.
Luo Anrong was already drenched in cold sweat. This reckless girl—how could she behave so wildly in front of the patriarch?
Luo Jingfeng’s sword-like brows drew together in deep displeasure.
Before Luo Anrong could speak, Luo Xia seized the moment, quaking with fear as she stammered, "Big Sister, I didn’t kill them. Why are you staring at me like that? Are you feeling guilty because you’re the real culprit…"
"To Luo Xia’s courtyard!" Luo Jingfeng cut her off harshly before she could finish.
Luo Xia understood—her grandfather must have realized they were using this incident as a pretext for infighting, but his attitude made it clear: before him, all tricks were as transparent as glass.
A gust of wind seemed to sweep through, and in the blink of an eye, Luo Jingfeng had vanished.
At that moment, Luo Xia understood more profoundly the importance of strength. Only by becoming powerful could she trample beneath her feet all those who once bullied her.
She was no gentle soul; she had always been a vengeful and cunning heroine. Those who dared to offend her—they were as good as dead.
Wait—her grandfather was going to search her courtyard! Under her bed lay a man in black! No, she had to hurry!
Her grandfather’s senses were so keen he could detect lingering medicine residue—how could a living person escape him?
Luo Yi shot Luo Xia a look that said, "You’re finished," before she and the others hurried out.
The vast hall was soon empty, with only Luo Xia remaining. Perfect—she could use her lightness skill without being noticed. She was confident that even Luo Mei couldn’t match her speed.
She wondered with anticipation how she would improve once her spiritual power was unlocked.
But she dared not arrive at her courtyard too quickly, lest she arouse suspicion. So she lingered outside for some time before finally walking in at a snail’s pace.
Upon her arrival, everyone present looked at her with disdain. A useless fool would always be useless; a waste could never become a genius. They had been standing there so long their feet were numb, and seeing her sweating profusely, they assumed she’d run all the way.
Luo Xia saw the courtyard in utter disarray. All the plants the former third miss had lovingly cultivated were ruined beyond recognition. She immediately felt a surge of anger—no doubt the handiwork of Luo Yi and her sister.
She looked toward Luo Yi, who was standing arms crossed, a smug smile on her face.
Clenching her fists in secret, Luo Xia strode quickly into the house.
In the center of the room, Luo Jingfeng stopped. He lifted his head. The crimson beam above was precisely where the man in black had just hidden.
Luo Xia drew a sharp breath. Her grandfather was truly formidable! His eyes were like blazing torches, as if he could see the scene that had just unfolded—like a living surveillance camera.
Everyone had already searched every corner of the courtyard under Luo Jingfeng’s lead, but nothing suspicious was found. The only clue was a pile of disturbed earth in the garden, the result of a section of the hut being blasted apart.
Now, a corner of the hut was missing, but not a trace of debris remained—the whole lot had been blown into the courtyard.
Everyone couldn’t help but admire the assassin’s skill.
Luo Jingfeng curled his lips into a smile and slowly walked toward Luo Xia’s bed.
Just a few feet away lay the unconscious figure of Bi Zhu.
Luo Xia thought to herself, This is bad—has grandfather discovered the man in black?
As his footsteps drew nearer, Luo Xia’s heart pounded. No—she couldn’t let her grandfather get close to the bed!
Swift as a swallow, Luo Xia dashed ahead of him. "Bi Zhu, what’s wrong? Wake up!" Luo Xia wailed, utterly heartbroken. "You’re the only one in the Luo family who’s ever treated me well. If you die, what will I do?"
"Wu wu—" she sobbed, her cries ear-splitting and mournful, so much so that Luo Jingfeng grew thoroughly irritable.
That faint trace of presence seemed to vanish without a trace.
Luo Yi and the others, seeing Luo Xia’s pitiful display, felt utterly satisfied. They were certain the old patriarch would slap her flying.
But they were mistaken.
A piece of blood-stained paper suddenly fluttered from Luo Xia’s hand!
The patriarch, quick as lightning, caught it at once.
The moment he read the words on the blood paper, his fury erupted.
This was sheer insolence! Outrageous!
But the enemy was powerful. If they truly came to the Luo estate to steal the treasure in three days, the family would never be able to protect it—or the seventh-grade pills he’d so painstakingly refined.
Though no one else knew what was written on the blood paper, they could all see how angry the patriarch was. The whole crowd fell silent, terrified that a single word might bring his wrath upon them.
Luo Xia knew that at this moment, her grandfather was likely preoccupied with arranging guards for the treasure vault and his precious pills. She glanced at the others, seeing their ashen faces, and felt a surge of delight.
"Who’s guarding the treasure vault?" Luo Jingfeng ground the blood paper to dust and turned to ask Luo Anrong.
A powerful pressure bore down on Luo Anrong, forcing him to bow. "Father, the Luo family’s guard team has always watched over the treasure vault. The captain is a level five beginner, and the weakest members are level three beginners."
Far too weak!
Had the family’s best talent in recent years truly only been a level five beginner?
"Father, there’s nothing unusual at the treasure vault," Luo Anrong added.
A sharp glance from Luo Jingfeng silenced him.
"Grandfather, are you worried about the vault? Why don’t I go guard it myself?" Luo Yi volunteered eagerly.
"In three days, an assassin will come to steal the treasures—a level eight peak master. If you go, you’ll only be throwing your life away!" Luo Jingfeng shot her a glare as he spoke, and everyone’s face turned deathly pale.
Luo Xia laughed inwardly.
Her grandfather was truly impressive—even he must be terrified! Luo Yi thought she could guard the vault? So naive!
But Luo Yi refused to back down. She clenched her fists. "Grandfather, they’re too arrogant! How dare they announce their intent to steal from us? We should lay an ambush at the treasure vault. I don’t care if he’s a level eight or a level ten master—we’ll make sure he never leaves alive!"
Luo Jingfeng sneered coldly. "An ambush? Even if all of you joined forces, you couldn’t withstand a single blow from him!"
"But we have you, grandfather!" Luo Yi lifted her chin with confidence. "We may not win in a direct fight, but if we use our heads, victory isn’t impossible."
Luo Xia looked over at Luo Yi.
She was wearing a confident smile, and the two sweet dimples on her face looked utterly out of place against her cunning expression. If one didn’t know better, she’d seem the picture of innocence.
In truth, Luo Yi was the Luo family’s darling and a natural schemer, skilled at intrigue within the Wulei Organization, where she was favored and personally taught by Elder Hailan.
Elder Hailan was a peak level-eight master—not someone Luo Jingfeng could match.
"Indeed, if you all had Luo Yi’s talent, the Luo family would not be so lacking in gifted people," Luo Jingfeng remarked, his gaze toward Luo Yi now changed.
