Chapter 37: I Am Your Husband!
Jealous?
What would I be jealous about?
It's not as if I'm obsessed with handsome men, or that every handsome man I meet must like me.
Seeing the two of them bickering, Fortune couldn't be bothered to join their battle. Curling up in Luo Xia's arms, the cat drifted off to sleep.
In her modern life, Luo Xia had never been in the habit of keeping pets. She genuinely wanted to toss this fellow out, but then she reconsidered—after all, this little thing had earned her so much money. She ought to treat it better.
So Luo Xia began to stroke Fortune with a tenderness befitting a loving mother.
Sensing a pair of angry eyes glaring at it, Fortune simply shut its eyes and pretended to sleep.
"Luo Luo?"
When Luo Xia didn't respond to him and instead cuddled the cat, Situ Tengyi felt an overwhelming urge to stew that feline in her arms!
It was said that cat meat tasted quite delicious.
Luo Xia lifted her head, a faint smile on her lips, her eyes concealing an emotion too deep to discern. "And who are you to me? Why should I be angry? I'm not so deluded as to think that every handsome man must be interested in me."
Situ Tengyi straightened her and met her clear gaze, enunciating each word: "I am your husband!"
If, along the way, he had been hesitating, now he had no doubts left. He did not care who she was or what destiny she bore—this life, she was fated to be his wife.
This man, his eyes gleamed like polished obsidian, exuding an arrogance that seemed to look down upon all creation, as though he stood above the world itself. One could not help but feel awe and submission in his presence.
Luo Xia's lips curved slightly. "Have we married?"
Such arrogance!
But then, he did have reason to be proud.
"And besides, don’t forget whom you’re holding right now—this is the Princess Consort of the Commandery Prince! If the Commandery Prince were to find out, do you think you’d still be alive?"
She knew perfectly well the Commandery Prince would never care for her, but she would not allow anyone else to touch what bore his name!
Her connection to the Commandery Prince was nothing more than a borrowed title—his Princess Consort, in name only.
Yet Wuying pulled her into his arms, the strength of his embrace so fierce it was as if he wished to fuse her into his own body.
His heated breath danced at her neck—warm, ticklish. "Luo Luo, are you worried about me?"
Luo Xia had never expected him to act this way; she panicked. "Let go of me!"
"No," Wuying held her even tighter.
Fortune, suffocating in Luo Xia's arms, wriggled free with no small amount of resentment and went off to find a more comfortable place to sleep.
Truthfully, its mistress did smell quite nice; it rather liked it there.
What a pity.
"Luo Luo, tell me—if the Evil Prince comes to cause me trouble, will you stand by my side?"
His voice was soft and electric, sending a shiver straight to her heart and leaving her flustered and uneasy.
"Wuying!" Luo Xia was angry now.
Situ Tengyi cupped her face. She tried to resist, but he was too strong; she could only let him have his way.
"If the Evil Prince really comes, will you stand with me?" Wuying persisted. He knew it was childish to seek this assurance, but ever since he had met her, he had not been himself. He could not explain it, but he only knew that if a day passed without seeing her, he missed her so much it hurt.
Luo Xia truly had no way to deal with this man. She sighed. "Will you let go of me first?"
Situ Tengyi shook his head.
"Must I answer?"
"Yes."
"I don't know!" Luo Xia spoke her heart. It was something that would never happen—how could she possibly know?
"Luo Luo, after all these days together, do you really feel nothing for me?" Situ Tengyi asked, unwilling to give up.
