115. Chapter 115: If You Don't Use It, It Goes to Waste
Zhaocai’s provocation had clearly struck a nerve with Lucky.
Lucky let out a low growl, baring its fangs and claws as it prepared to pounce on Zhaocai. The wretched little sick cat! Not only was it useless, but it actually dared to team up with Luo Xia to bully it? Was it asking for death?
"Master, help! Lucky is trying to kill me!" Zhaocai quickly scurried behind Luo Xia for protection.
Luo Xia, however, felt not a hint of fear toward the formidable and imposing Lucky. In truth, Lucky was much like its master—powerful enough to make others look up in awe, a creature that would strike terror into the heart of any ordinary person. But Luo Xia was no ordinary person.
"Lucky, be a good boy and go," Luo Xia said, watching the snarling beast with a smile.
Lucky’s claws stopped just a hair’s breadth from Luo Xia’s face. Despite the proximity, she remained calm and collected, showing no signs of fright.
Zhaocai, curled up within the sleeve of Luo Xia’s robe, grinned at the beast. "Lucky, are you stupid? You just need to follow Lord Wuying from a distance so he doesn't notice you. That way, both sides will have what they need to report back."
Lucky glared at Zhaocai in frustration, then turned and departed. It moved with lightning speed, so fast that Luo Xia’s eyes struggled to keep track of its form.
When would she ever be able to train to that level of speed? Luo Xia looked up to the heavens, wiping away imaginary tears.
Meanwhile, the Crown Prince and the forces of the Luo family patriarch were exhausted to the point of collapse. They had thought they were closing in on Luo Xia, but at the very last moment, the trail had vanished completely, leaving the entire group seething with rage.
Just as their spirits began to flag, Qi Zifan and the Luo patriarch caught a whiff of a low-level scent. Deciding not to let this lead slip away, they led the group in a stealthy pursuit.
Eventually, they discovered two individuals—men with ordinary appearances and strength only at the fourth level. They seemed worn out from their journey and were resting on the ground.
"I’m telling you, there are two powerful magical beasts up ahead. One of them is guarding a treasure, but it’s a pity our strength isn't enough to handle it."
"Big Brother, I heard the Prince is going to deal with those beasts. If we tag along, do you think we might be able to snag some of the spoils?"
"Are you an idiot? If the Prince takes action, do you think there will be any treasure left for us to share?"
"I suppose you're right. The Prince is such a formidable existence. It’s just a shame we’re such low-level cultivators; we’re only fit to look up to the likes of him."
The group listened to the brothers' conversation, their eyes suddenly lighting up. If they couldn't find Luo Xia to get the treasure, there was treasure waiting right ahead! Why wait? They wanted that prize!
The Luo patriarch, sensing the mood of the crowd, led them away from the two men along with Qi Zifan to discuss a strategy.
"We cannot wait for the Prince to strike first," the Crown Prince said, taking the lead. "Otherwise, all the treasure will end up in his pockets."
"He's right. If we combine our strength, we can surely take down those two powerful beasts," added a peak seventh-level expert from the Crown Prince’s retinue.
"Yes! Let's go together and defeat the beasts!"
Luo Yi and Luo Mei were also eager, both sisters sensing this was a golden opportunity to encounter the Prince. "Grandfather," Luo Yi suggested, "the Crown Prince’s idea is sound. Why don't we set off as soon as possible?"
The Luo patriarch, however, was a man of deep cunning. He found the appearance of these two ordinary men highly suspicious, especially since they had failed to notice them at all during their journey. For the sake of caution, he addressed the group: "I suspect there is something off about those two. How about someone goes back to check if they are still there?"
Prompted by the patriarch’s words, the others began to realize the situation might not be as simple as it seemed. They wondered if they were being lured into a trap.
Qi Zifan volunteered, "Your Highness, why don't I head back and investigate the true nature of those two?"
