Chapter Ninety-Eight: The Larval Form of the Multicolored Dream Butterfly
In the previous chapter, Ye Feng engaged in fierce combat with Tuo Li Bao, who proved to be incredibly formidable. He unleashed the Thunderbolt Hundred-Kill Divine Whip, striking Ye Feng’s hand and causing him to drop the Flowing Cloud Sword!
Fortunately, Ye Feng had consumed the Muscle-Strengthening and Vitality-Extending Immortal Herb, which had greatly enhanced his constitution.
Otherwise, his bones would have shattered long ago, reduced to nothing but a pile of mush!
Instantly, Ye Feng was terrified to the core.
Before he could even regain his senses, a gust of wind sounded behind his head once again!
This time, it was real!
The opponent’s whip technique was a masterful blend of reality and illusion, constantly shifting between the two, bewildering Ye Feng completely.
Caught off guard and overwhelmed, Ye Feng had no time to think. Instinctively, he bent his whole body down, performing a “Step Inside and Hide” maneuver.
“Whoosh!…”
With a sharp sound, something whizzed just overhead!
A chilling breeze swept past him!
Before Ye Feng could even relax, another fierce gust came crashing down from above, lashing at his back with ruthless precision!
Terrified, Ye Feng felt his soul nearly flee.
His strength waning and cornered with no room to retreat, he forced his horse forward, relying on the momentum to swing the enemy’s tail whip behind him.
Luckily, his mount was a unicorn—a magnificent steed faster than the wind—which just narrowly allowed him to dodge the whip!
Once the unicorn had put some distance, Ye Feng reined in and turned to face Tuo Li Bao, raising his voice in admiration: “Tuo Li Bao, your Thunderbolt Hundred-Kill Divine Whip is indeed formidable. I, Ye Feng, salute you!”
Having said this, he shouted fiercely, “Now, witness my Domination skill!”
As he spoke, he brandished the Overlord Divine Spear horizontally, his eyes blazing with fury.
Concentrating his mind, he gathered all his inner spiritual power, communicating telepathically with the scattered arrows, spears, and short blades lying on the ground.
He controlled them to rise slowly, aiming them at Tuo Li Bao.
With a cry, “Go!”
Suddenly, the weapons shot forth like lightning.
Their force was unmatched!
The sharp clang of metal striking metal rang out like a heavy rainstorm.
Tuo Li Bao was forced to retreat repeatedly.
His horse, burdened by the weight, faltered.
Its two hind hooves buckled.
Crack!
It knelt on the ground.
Panting heavily, Tuo Li Bao pulled hard on the reins to raise the horse again.
Looking closely, bright marks adorned his white helmet and armor, but he himself was unharmed.
Thanks to the protection of the Bright Moon Armor, he remained safe.
“Thief! Now, see my Clone Technique!”
Seeing Tuo Li Bao unharmed, Ye Feng’s anger flared. He shouted, “Clone!”
Another Ye Feng emerged from his body, accompanied by a fiery dragon, both attacking fiercely.
Meanwhile, Tuo Li Bao, with three heads and six arms, met them head-on.
Sparks flew, metal clashed—neither side gaining the upper hand.
After a long battle, Tuo Li Bao began to tire, breathing heavily and sweating profusely.
The eyes on his three heads blurred, and the six arms felt heavier and slower.
His movements lagged.
Ye Feng noticed the increasing openings in Tuo Li Bao’s defense and felt triumphant.
This time, he was wiser—knowing that Tuo Li Bao’s armor made him impervious, he aimed only to strike the horse’s leg with his spear.
His clone wielded the Flowing Cloud Sword picked up from the ground, following closely.
The real fiery dragon spewed scorching flames, wildly engulfing Tuo Li Bao from head to toe.
At last, the horse could no longer endure the searing assault.
“Whinny!”
It reared up wildly, as if mad.
Seizing the opportunity, Ye Feng thrust his spear hard into the horse’s abdomen.
When he pulled the spear out, blood gushed forth, the large wound steaming hot.
The horse barely had time to groan before collapsing.
Instantly, Tuo Li Bao was pinned beneath it.
“Don’t move—one twitch and you’ll lose your life!”
Ye Feng’s spear moved like a swimming dragon, swift and merciless, pressing tightly against Tuo Li Bao’s throat.
Shield bearers rushed forward, knocking off his helmet, slinging him over a shoulder, and binding him tightly, preparing to push him away.
Suddenly, a fierce shout rang from the sky: “Release my disciple!”
Ye Feng looked up to see an elderly figure in a purple robe descending on a cloud—it was the Purple-Robed Demon Lord.
Arriving swiftly, he positioned himself in front of Tuo Li Bao.
“Brother Purple Robe, this dispute among juniors is a worldly matter; perhaps we need not intervene?”
Although Ye Feng’s scalp tingled upon seeing the Purple-Robed Demon Lord, hearing that familiar voice filled him with joy. He turned and cried, “Master! This Tuo Li Bao has been captured at last—we can’t let the Purple-Robed Demon Lord snatch him away!”
The newcomer was none other than the Celestial Lord of Profound Fire. Upon hearing this, he simply nodded with a smile and gestured for Ye Feng to look behind him.
Ye Feng turned and was overjoyed to see the Celestial Lord of Golden Spirit had arrived just in time.
The Golden Spirit Celestial Lord declared, “Purple-Robed Demon Lord, Tuo Li Bao is the arsonist who set fire to the mountain and falsely accused my disciple. He cannot escape!”
The Purple-Robed Demon Lord was stunned by the arrival of these two Celestial Lords.
He quickly composed himself and bowed to the Golden Spirit Celestial Lord: “Brother Golden Spirit, unexpected and unwelcome—moreover, I never imagined that fool was your disciple? Had I known, I would not have acted so harshly. My apologies!”
Then his expression changed sharply: “But your claim that Tuo Li Bao framed your disciple needs evidence.”
“What evidence, what proof?! Two little demons in the Chicken Crow Mountain forest testified, seeing everything clearly! The fire was set by Tuo Li Bao himself! If you want proof, I ask you—where did you see my disciple set that fire?!”
This retort left the Purple-Robed Demon Lord speechless.
Reflecting on the sequence of events and the Golden Spirit Celestial Lord’s words, he realized he had been deceived and had fallen for Tuo Li Bao’s ruse.
“Go! You may have killed my disciple, but I won’t hold you accountable—just leave Tuo Li Bao here; a life for a life!”
The Golden Spirit Celestial Lord’s face darkened, showing no mercy toward the Purple-Robed Demon Lord.
“Senior uncle, this won’t do—we cannot let that old demon off so easily!” Ye Feng grew anxious and tried to rush forward to stop the Purple-Robed Demon Lord.
“Feng’er, come back! What the elders say is final!” he was sternly commanded by the Celestial Lord of Profound Fire.
In truth, neither elder wanted to let the Purple-Robed Demon Lord go, but his power was too great. If pressed too hard, both sides would suffer.
Besides, the old demon had been misled by his disciples into coming down the mountain. As long as he stayed secluded, he would no longer cause trouble.
The Purple-Robed Demon Lord glanced around and, recognizing his isolation, accepted the reality. As the saying goes: a wise man does not suffer a loss unnecessarily.
He bowed and said, “Farewell!”
Turning to leave.
Seeing his master depart, Tuo Li Bao trembled with fear. “Master!” he called out.
The Purple-Robed Demon Lord stopped and, after a long pause, turned back.
Tears welled in his eyes, lips trembling as he scolded fiercely: “Ungrateful disciple! I told you not to come down the mountain, yet you persistently lured me—first by abducting my junior brother, Wolfwood Thorn, then setting the mountain ablaze, forcing and deceiving me into this catastrophe! Now, even I cannot save you!”
With a wave of his sleeve, he left.
Ye Feng watched the old demon disappear into the distance, hatred burning in his heart, but helplessness weighing heavy.
Unexpectedly, the Purple-Robed Demon Lord had not gone far before turning back again.
“Two senior brothers, before I leave, one last word: may the green hills remain and the rivers flow forever.”
The two elder Celestial Lords waved off his words lightly: “Go then! If you seek revenge, we will be ready.”
Before they finished, the Purple-Robed Demon Lord pulled something from his sleeve and tossed it with a flourish.
The object was brightly colored, dazzling in its vivid hues, and emitted a foul stench as it struck like lightning.
At that moment, the two elder Celestial Lords were caught off guard; who could dodge such a sudden assault?
Fortunately, having trained for many years, they shouted, “Watch out!” and barely dodged by shifting their bodies.
“Purple-Robed Demon Lord, you are shameless! You think such despicable tactics can harm us?!” the Golden Spirit Celestial Lord shouted angrily.
The Purple-Robed Demon Lord merely smirked coldly, remaining silent.
The two elders felt a chill in their hearts, their brows furrowed tighter.
Suddenly,
“Ah!”
A loud cry.
The Golden Spirit Celestial Lord’s face twisted in pain as his left palm struck his shoulder sharply.
When he pulled back his hand, a brilliantly colored caterpillar lay crushed in his palm—its body adorned with dreamlike wings, yet grotesque and repulsive, covered in fuzzy spines woven from red, yellow, purple, green, and black.
At this moment, the creature was already dead, reduced to a mushy mess oozing foul green slime.
“You… you… you actually raised the Five-Colored Dream Butterfly larva?! So… so poisonous!”
In an instant, the Golden Spirit Celestial Lord’s entire body blackened like coal, his swollen left hand puffed up like a large steamed bun.
No sooner had he spoken than his left hand dropped weakly, the corpse of the strange larva falling to the ground.
Five-Colored Dream Butterfly larva?!
Ye Feng was stunned—it was a creature he had heard of before.
It was said to be the most venomous in the world; though less potent than the King of Hell flower, it rivaled traditional poisons like Peacock Feather and Crane’s Crown.
Breeding it was notoriously difficult, as it fed on various poisons and later consumed its own kind; only one mature butterfly emerged from a thousand larvae.
Moreover, the larvae spun cocoons and, upon emergence, grew magnificent multicolored wings.
Their bodies, however, remained deformed and ugly due to the excessive ingestion of toxins.
When used, a larva was casually thrown, and anyone struck would succumb to poison and die within half an hour.
If missed, the larva had a peculiar habit: it silently flew to a person’s body upon sensing their breath and bit them, ensuring the victim’s inevitable poisoning and death.
It was said to be extinct long ago, yet this Purple-Robed Demon Lord had raised it to harm others.
“Senior uncle!” Ye Feng shouted in alarm, rushing forward to inspect.
The Golden Spirit Celestial Lord’s brow was tightly furrowed, his face contorted in pain.
“How are you, senior brother?!” the Celestial Lord of Profound Fire hurried over with concern.
“It’s nothing serious. Let me rest first.”
The two supported him as he sat cross-legged.
He forced his spiritual energy to tightly protect his heart.
“That old demon, I, Ye Feng, will fight you to the death!”
Seeing the situation, Ye Feng was furious and readied his spear to confront the Purple-Robed Demon Lord.
“Back!”
Suddenly, a sharp command halted him.
His collar was grabbed with great force.
It was his master, the Celestial Lord of Profound Fire.
Ye Feng’s eyes reddened, tears streaming down. “Master!”
“You are no match for him. Step back,” the Celestial Lord said coldly.
Then he stepped forward toward the Purple-Robed Demon Lord.
“Hand over the antidote!”
The Celestial Lord’s face was full of rage.
“If you want the antidote, first release my disciple, Tuo Li Bao!” the Purple-Robed Demon Lord sneered in threat.
“Tuo Li Bao deceived my junior brother and betrayed his master—such disrespect deserves no mercy. Is he worth your loyalty?” the Celestial Lord of Profound Fire challenged, bewildered by the old demon’s treachery.
“Now that Wolfwood Thorn is dead, Tuo Li Bao is my only disciple left. When I am gone, who will inherit my skills? Without a successor, all my lifetime’s knowledge will be lost!” the Purple-Robed Demon Lord argued passionately.
“Hurry! If you do not release Tuo Li Bao soon, the poison in Golden Spirit Celestial Lord will take his life, and there will be no cure!”
The Purple-Robed Demon Lord grew impatient.
The Celestial Lord of Profound Fire glanced at Tuo Li Bao and then at Golden Spirit Celestial Lord, steeling himself before ordering, “Release Tuo Li Bao!”
The soldiers were about to untie the bindings.
“Wait!”
A sudden shout froze them in place.
Will the antidote be returned? Can the poison in Golden Spirit Celestial Lord be cured? The next part will reveal all!
