Chapter 93: The Immortal Venerable Joins the Fray

In the previous chapter, the two little demons heard a rustling in the grass. Following the sound, they parted the bushes and found them.
“Ah!…” cried the fox-faced demon in alarm!
But the sheep-faced demon behind quickly covered his mouth tightly.
“Brother Fox, what are you yelling about for no reason?!” the sheep-faced demon spoke in a harsh, duck-like voice, seemingly ignoring the presence of the Golden Spirit Immortal and Li Xiong as if they were invisible.
The fox-faced demon immediately snapped back to his senses and said in a sharp voice, “Nothing, nothing at all. Let’s go back!”
Turning around, he pushed through the tall grass, about a person’s height, and slipped away.
This left the Golden Spirit Immortal dumbfounded, completely puzzled!
Dear readers, at this point, you might be just as confused.
In this story, humans and demons are sworn enemies. Why didn’t these two little demons take advantage of the situation to capture the Golden Spirit Immortal and Li Xiong?
As the saying goes: those who follow the righteous path gain many allies; those who stray find few.
In truth, it was because the rogue Tanli Leopard had committed so many atrocities—setting fire to the mountains, killing countless mountain spirits, including the siblings of these two little demons—that they harbored deep hatred in their hearts.
Seeing the Golden Spirit Immortal and Li Xiong, knowing they were enemies of the Tanli Leopard, they chose to pretend not to see, releasing the tiger back to the mountain, giving the pair a chance to seek revenge!
Avenging their grievance also allowed them to vent their own private fury.
The Golden Spirit Immortal was unaware of this and hastened to channel spiritual energy into Li Xiong.
Before long, he had successfully repaired Li Xiong’s internal organs. Only then did he stop, gathering Li Xiong, mounting a cloud, and returning to the mountains.
Upon returning, they found the cavalry squad leader had also escaped danger.
The Golden Spirit Immortal asked his name and learned he was called Ke Xiaoqi. Seeing his loyalty and bravery, he made a special exception to accept him as a disciple responsible for guarding the cave.
The two continued to recuperate there.
Thanks to the Golden Spirit Immortal’s infusion of spiritual energy, Li Xiong’s cultivation advanced greatly.
Coupled with the Immortal’s guidance, Li Xiong diligently practiced demon-slaying techniques, reaching a new level of skill, his entire body—even his internal organs—becoming as impervious as diamond.
Yet, whenever the Golden Spirit Immortal thought of how his beloved disciple was harmed without cause by the Purple-Robed Demon Lord, and how he nearly risked his own life to save him, a deep anger welled up inside him with no outlet.
Calculating the days, now that Li Xiong’s body was healed and his skills had improved, it was time for revenge.
So early that morning, he told Li Xiong they would return to the rebel camp to confront the Purple-Robed Demon Lord!
This news thrilled Li Xiong immensely.
He stammered, “Ma… Master, your… your… disciple misses… misses… my young lord so much, let’s… let’s… we should leave right now!”
Grabbing the Golden Spirit Immortal, he was ready to leave immediately.

The Golden Spirit Immortal smiled warmly at Li Xiong and said, “Xiong’er, see if there’s anything you need to pack. Once you’re ready, we’ll go!”
But Li Xiong shook his head vigorously like a rattle, saying, “Mas… Master, no matter where I go, I’m still a bachelor. This chain hammer is… my only possession!”
With that, he slung the chain hammer over his shoulder and tugged again at the Immortal’s hand.
The Golden Spirit Immortal nodded repeatedly, smiling, “Alright, alright, Xiong’er. Don’t rush. Let me first grab a few sets of clothes.”
But Li Xiong was insistent, “Mas… Master, let’s go! I… I… I can’t wait any longer!”
He pulled at the Immortal, eager to depart.
As the Immortal struggled, Ke Xiaoqi appeared with a bundle and reported, “Master, you should go ahead with Senior Brother! I’ve already prepared your clothing.”
The Golden Spirit Immortal nodded repeatedly, “Xiaoqi, you really understand your master’s mind. I’m glad I accepted you as a disciple.”
He took the bundle, gathered Li Xiong, mounted the cloud, and soon arrived at the foot of Luoyan Ridge, before the rebel camp.
The Golden Spirit Immortal explained how Li Xiong was rescued. The crowd was furious, cursing the Purple-Robed Immortal and Tanli Leopard vehemently, blaming one for disrespecting his master, the other for being unfilial, slandering and setting traps, crying ‘thief’ to catch the thief!
The Golden Spirit Immortal snorted coldly, “Normally, I would not interfere in your battle against the Ten Thousand Demon Kingdom. But now that the Purple-Robed Demon Lord has harmed my disciple so cruelly, I cannot stay out of it. I will seek justice!”
The Mysterious Fire Immortal stroked his flowing beard and nodded repeatedly, “Brother, your coming is the best news! With you here, the Purple-Robed Demon Lord need not be feared.”
Then he clasped his fists and bowed, “Brother, I have an impertinent request. I hope you will agree.”
The Golden Spirit Immortal quickly returned the salute, “Junior Brother, you are too polite! Speak freely. How could your senior brother refuse?”
The Mysterious Fire Immortal stood, holding the command insignia, and approached solemnly. “Brother, your talent surpasses mine by far. I have reluctantly held this command for some time. Now that you have arrived, I ask you to take it. Let me relax a bit!”
The Golden Spirit Immortal was shocked, waving his hands vigorously, “Junior Brother, you flatter me! I lack the ability! You should keep the insignia! Could it be you fear I won’t obey and devised this trick to save face?”
They pushed the responsibility back and forth, neither willing to accept command.
Finally, the Golden Spirit Immortal proposed, “Junior Brother, I think it best to let the original commander, Lady Murong, retain this insignia. We are old now and can no longer manage these affairs. Let the young ones have their chance to grow.”
The Mysterious Fire Immortal nodded eagerly, “Exactly! Exactly!”
He called out, “Yan’er, come here!”
When Murong Yan approached, holding the insignia with both hands, he earnestly advised, “I initially asked for this insignia to set a trap for the Purple-Robed Demon Lord. Now that matter is settled, it should be returned to you. Your senior uncle suggests you accept this insignia without hesitation.”
Murong Yan hurriedly waved her hands, “No, no. I am unworthy. Please, Grandmaster, keep this great seal!”
The Mysterious Fire Immortal’s face darkened. “Hmm!” He forcibly placed the insignia into Murong Yan’s hands.
Then he spoke kindly, “Yan’er, you are young and need the training. Don’t be shy.”
Murong Yan was helpless, holding the insignia dazed.
Suddenly, she spotted Ye Feng standing nearby and quickly handed the insignia to him. “Brother Feng, your wisdom surpasses mine tenfold, and you are familiar with the method to break the Yinming Ten Thousand Demon Formation. You should command this insignia. I, Murong Yan, willingly serve at your side!”

Ye Feng was flustered, quickly regaining composure. “Commander Murong, the generals here have come to follow your father’s reputation. Besides, you personally formed this unit. How could I, with no merit, dare take your place and command? As for the method to break the Yinming Ten Thousand Demon Formation, I only understand it superficially, not even one percent of Master’s knowledge. If needed, I will serve as an advisor, offering strategies, even at the cost of my life!”
He returned the insignia to Murong Yan.
Murong Yan wanted to pass the insignia back to Ye Feng, but he had already stepped back, blending into the ranks.
Helpless, Murong Yan sat in the commander’s seat, resumed command, and continued the military meeting.
Though she did not understand the formation-breaking method, the diagram on the wall was clear. She simply assigned preparations accordingly.
Finally, Murong Yan solicited additional opinions from the two Immortals and Ye Feng before adjourning the meeting.
The generals filed out of the tent.
As Ye Feng stepped outside, a sudden dizziness overwhelmed him. His legs weakened, and he stumbled. Fortunately, General Mu Shijin caught him.
Murong Yan, anxious, hurried forward, supporting Ye Feng tightly and asked with concern, “Deputy Commander Ye, what’s wrong?”
Ye Feng rubbed his temples, shook his head to clear his mind, and reassured her, “Commander Murong, it’s nothing serious. My legs just gave out briefly.”
Murong Yan’s heart ached with both worry and compassion, scolding gently, “Deputy Commander Ye, you work too hard. Rest well when you return!”
She then instructed Mu Shijin, “General Mu, look after Deputy Commander Ye. Help him back and ensure he sleeps a full ten hours. If not, I’ll hold you accountable!”
“Yes, sir!” Mu Shijin nodded repeatedly, supporting Ye Feng forward.
Ye Feng kept protesting, “Commander Murong, you’re treating me like a pig! When will I ever sleep that long?!”
Mu Shijin laughed heartily, a hint of schadenfreude in his tone. “Deputy Commander Ye, be grateful! This is Commander Murong’s way of showing care!”
Murong Yan watched them leave with deep affection before turning back.
In recent days, the rebel camp bustled with feverish activity—training troops, forging weapons, preparing early for breaking the formation.
The generals were far from idle, accelerating their cultivation.
With guidance from the top demon-slaying experts, the Mysterious Fire Immortal and Golden Spirit Immortal, their progress was rapid.
Murong Yan, Li Yiqing, Mu Shijin, Lu Youxiong, Li Xiong, and others reached the realm of spiritual doubling, while Ye Feng broke through obstacles to attain the dominator realm.
The entire army’s morale soared, each eager and ready to display their prowess on the battlefield against the formation.
The month-long deadline approached swiftly. One early morning, Murong Yan donned her armor, fully prepared, ordered the drums beaten, raised the flag, and prepared to muster the troops to shatter the Yinming Ten Thousand Demon Formation.
