Chapter Thirty-Three: Unleashing a Carnage (Fifth Update)
Xu Miao gazed coldly at the Blue Wolves before him. With the ones he had struck down and those Lu Zhe had just killed, the number reached at least twenty. Evidently, the outcome of this battle was far from certain.
A thunderous crash echoed as Xu Miao stomped his foot, unleashing a powerful aura that radiated from the impact. The sheer force sent his white hair fluttering wildly, and his bloodthirsty expression, coupled with the cruel smile curling at his lips, sent a chill through those watching. None dared meet his gaze, for fear of becoming collateral in his wrath.
His lips curled into a perpetual cold smile as he stared into the woods where the wolves were now frantically unsettled by his sudden display of power.
A mournful howl arose from within the pack, and at once the chaos ceased, silence descending as if an order had been issued. Xu Miao sneered, murmuring, "Wolf King."
He began to move lightly, stepping towards the heart of the wolf pack hidden in the woods, his voice ringing out mockingly, "A few beasts, and you even have a Wolf King—how amusing, how truly hilarious."
His laughter echoed as he drew closer, stopping three feet from the trees. Peering into the depths of the forest, he extended his hand, which instantly became suffused with fiery red energy. "If I can't form seals, then I'll attack with the most basic spiritual force," he said.
His right hand transformed into a palm, swinging gently as if swaying in the wind. Suddenly, he thrust forward, sending a surge of blazing red energy hurtling into the woods.
The force shot deep into the forest, and moments later a muffled explosion resounded, followed by silence. Xu Miao waited patiently, watching.
Soon after the fiery energy vanished into the woods, a plume of acrid smoke rose, as if something had caught fire. The forest stirred restlessly, and then, from its depths, several figures leapt out with a "whoosh." Without bothering to identify them, Xu Miao turned his right hand into a claw and snatched at the blue shadow above his head.
With a sickening sound, his hand plunged into the blue form overhead, which struggled fiercely but soon fell limp as Xu Miao twisted his wrist. He flicked his hand, tossing the blue shadow aside, and upon inspection, found it was indeed an adult Six-Toothed Blue Wolf, its abdomen gaping with a large hole—undoubtedly the result of his earlier assault.
Turning slowly, Xu Miao saw, as expected, a dozen more adult Six-Toothed Blue Wolves standing behind him, glaring at him with murderous intent.
He tilted his head, smiling faintly, and glanced at the foremost wolf. "You must be the Wolf King, Eight-Toothed Blue Wolf," he said quietly.
The Blue Wolf at the front was twice the size of the others, standing as tall as a youth, its forelegs as thick as a young boy's arms, and its fur gleaming brightly. Its mouth hung open, drool dripping, revealing eight sharp fangs—no wonder Xu Miao called it the Eight-Toothed Blue Wolf.
Xu Miao smiled coolly, uncaring whether the Wolf King understood him. "Indeed, you are a second-tier beast king, commanding the first-tier ones with ease."
He shifted his tone, sneering, "I won't kill you yet—otherwise, how would I savor the thrill of hunting wolves?"
The Eight-Toothed Blue Wolf did not attack immediately. Instead, it glared at Xu Miao with eyes full of rage. Then, with a low growl, four or five Six-Toothed Blue Wolves charged at him.
Xu Miao watched their advance with an icy smile. He extended his right hand, grabbing the head of the nearest wolf, and wielded its body as a weapon, spinning and sweeping through the pack, sending the others flying.
With a squeeze of his fingers, the wolf he held struggled briefly, then fell limp. Xu Miao looked to find his fingers had sunk halfway into its skull, piercing the bone entirely. He tossed the wolf aside, brought his bloodied hand to his lips, and licked the blood with a chilling smile.
The Eight-Toothed Blue Wolf, witnessing its companions slaughtered, howled furiously at the sky and glared at Xu Miao. With another growl, the remaining wolves lunged, and the Wolf King itself leapt forward.
Xu Miao raised an eyebrow, surprised that the Wolf King acted so quickly—it seemed he had finally pushed it past its limits.
As the wolves, especially the Wolf King, rushed at him, Xu Miao's lips curled into a cold smile. "It seems the wolf hunt is over," he said.
He stood unmoving, letting the wolves pounce.
With a resounding crash, Xu Miao's fist smashed into the lead wolf, sending it flying. Before he could react, another wolf leapt at him, but Xu Miao calmly swung his right arm, his movements swift and precise, dispatching each attacker effortlessly.
Yet, with only one arm and already wounded, facing several snapping maws, even Xu Miao's speed could not prevent a wolf from clamping down fiercely on his right arm.
He stared coldly at the wolf biting him, then kicked the one lunging at him from the front. His right arm erupted in a blaze of red light, prompting the wolf to release its grip in terror. Seizing the moment, Xu Miao kicked it away.
He swiftly dispatched the remaining Six-Toothed Blue Wolves, but before he could catch his breath, the sky suddenly darkened. Looking up, he saw a massive maw descending upon him.
"Good heavens," Xu Miao hurriedly retreated.
Steadying himself, he looked at the charging Blue Wolf and sneered, "So you've finally made your move, Wolf King."
Before him stood the Eight-Toothed Blue Wolf, its eyes consumed with fury—a rage born from seeing its pack massacred.
Xu Miao, however, remained calm, gazing at the Wolf King as if he admired it.
The Eight-Toothed Blue Wolf stared at him for a moment, then lunged with explosive speed—far swifter than any of its kin. Xu Miao barely reacted before the beast was upon him, jaws clamping tightly onto his right shoulder.
A guttural cry escaped him as pain seared through his shoulder. Xu Miao twisted his right hand, gripping the wolf's fur, then, with his left hand shaped like a blade, struck fiercely at the beast's neck.
His left palm plunged deep into the wolf's throat, and as he ripped it out, a fountain of blood spurted forth, mingled with pieces of viscera.
Yet the Eight-Toothed Blue Wolf refused to let go, its jaws locked onto Xu Miao's shoulder, intent on tearing his arm clean off.
"Beast," Xu Miao cursed, clawing at the wolf's head with his left hand, gripping its fur tightly and pulling with all his strength.
As he prepared to yank free, agony surged from his shoulder, halting his motion—the creature's fangs had sunk deep into his flesh.
"Vile, utterly vile," Xu Miao cursed, stabbing his left hand repeatedly into the Wolf King's belly, puncturing it several times until the beast finally ceased all movement.
He exhaled heavily, enduring the pain as he wrenched his shoulder free from the Wolf King's jaws. Pressing several points upon his shoulder, Xu Miao sat on the ground, panting as he gazed up at the sky.
