Chapter 107: The Trump Card
“What do you mean by that?” Cao Xinshuo’s face darkened as he glared at Ou Xinlai, for her words were utterly disgraceful. If Ou Xinya truly was a traitor of Xuanwu Kingdom, and Suzaku Kingdom not only took her in but also granted her the Feng surname, wasn’t that implying Suzaku Kingdom lacked discernment, willing even to harbor a traitor? Perhaps they even deliberately used Ou Xinya as a tool to betray Xuanwu Kingdom.
“Literally what I said,” Ou Xinlai retorted disdainfully, looking at Ou Xinya and Cao Xinshuo. On someone else’s turf, she clearly had no intention of holding back. More importantly, she still had her trump cards up her sleeve.
“You know her?” Cao Xinshuo’s knowledge of Ou Xinlai’s affairs was limited, but he was aware that the Feng family had seemingly sent Feng Zixin on a mission in another country. This Nicae was from Xuanwu Kingdom, suggesting Feng Zixin had been undercover there all along—and that Nicae had met her before.
“I’ve met her a few times,” Ou Xinlai nodded. “She’s surnamed Ou, a child of the Ou family from Xuanwu Kingdom, named Ou Xinya. But what’s surprising is that she betrayed the Ou family, fled Xuanwu Kingdom, and escaped to Suzaku Kingdom, where she was even given the Feng surname. Tsk tsk, what’s your relationship with her, Suzaku Kingdom?”
Ou Xinya had been granted the Feng surname and even renamed Feng Zixin.
Clearly, her status in Suzaku Kingdom was no lowly one, but it wasn’t simply because she was a spy for Suzaku Kingdom. No matter how well she did, it couldn’t have been to such an extent.
So the one who directed Ou Xinya to betray the Ou family, and even Xuanwu Kingdom itself, must be a royal relative of Suzaku Kingdom. Why would royal relatives of Suzaku meddle in a great family of a foreign nation?
Ou Xinlai was deeply curious about what the Ou family had done to attract the attention of Suzaku Kingdom’s royal relatives, who went so far as to bribe Ou Xinya, the traitor.
More importantly, how did Suzaku Kingdom manage to bribe Ou Xinya without her untrustworthy father finding out, so that she wholeheartedly served Suzaku Kingdom?
There seemed to be many contradictions in this.
After all, a goose leaves a trace, and a man leaves a name. Ou Xinya had committed so many acts of betrayal within the Ou family and maintained contact with Suzaku Kingdom—how could the Ou family not have discovered a single clue?
Though Ou Chendong was dissatisfied with his father, Ou Xinya was still his daughter. Could it be that Ou Chendong, out of spite for their untrustworthy father, also betrayed the Ou family and helped Ou Xinya evade the family’s surveillance?
If true, Ou Chendong would be utterly heartless. Without the Ou family, what would Ou Chendong amount to? The simple principle that a family rises and falls together—had Ou Chendong really lived so many years without understanding this? Then all these years, the food Ou Chendong ate in the Ou family had gone straight into the dog’s belly.
“I didn’t expect you to know my background so well,” Ou Xinya narrowed her eyes and fixed Ou Xinlai with a glare. She had thought that at least in Suzaku Kingdom, no one would know her true identity. With the Feng surname, she could strut through Suzaku Kingdom unchallenged.
Who would have thought that even in Suzaku Kingdom, someone would know her secrets and mock her for it.
Recalling the many years she had suffered oppression within the Ou family—despite being thousands of times more capable than Ou Xinlai, merely because Ou Xinlai was the legitimate daughter of the clan leader, the latter was treasured while she was treated like trash.
She had simply been unlucky not to have a father as clan leader; thus, she had never enjoyed any privileges.
Having grown accustomed to such suppression, Ou Xinya only wished to rise above everyone else, to live a life where all looked up to her.
Now, she hated the Ou family’s very existence, for as long as they lived, the humiliation she had endured could never be fully erased. Her sole focus was to destroy the Ou family and even erase all knowledge of anyone bearing the name Ou Xinya.
That made the woman before her, Nicae, the first target to be eliminated.
“Listen carefully: my name is Feng Zixin. I have nothing to do with the Ou family of Xuanwu Kingdom!” Ou Xinya shouted fiercely, glaring at Ou Xinlai. Mentioning the Ou family felt like an insult to her, as if equating her with garbage.
“If you want to deceive yourself, that’s your business. Even if you changed your name to Feng Zixin, you can’t help but react when someone calls you Ou Xinya, can you?” Ou Xinlai laughed.
The name Ou Xinya had been hers for so many years; if someone called her Feng Zixin, she might even be caught off guard.
“Who exactly are you!” Ou Xinya flared with anger at Ou Xinlai’s words. She had hoped to start anew, to meet Ye Zifei with her new identity, leaving the past behind and worthy of being with Ye Zifei—yet here was someone, or maybe two, blind enough to open old wounds.
Ou Xinya was certain she had never met this Nicae in Xuanwu Kingdom. She didn’t know her, yet Nicae seemed to know her situation intimately.
“Forget it. I don’t have time to find out who you are. Since you’re ungrateful, then leave your life here!” After arriving in Suzaku Kingdom, Ye Zifei seemed quite close to Nicae.
With Ou Xinlai gone, now there was Nicae.
Any woman who accepted Ye Zifei’s affection had to be eradicated one by one!
No sooner had Ou Xinya finished speaking than several supernatural experts suddenly appeared in the main hall, surrounding Ou Xinlai.
Ou Xinya and Cao Xinshuo had long planned this. If Ou Xinlai cooperated, she would be spared and well taken care of. If she didn’t, they would kill her but keep whatever secrets she possessed.
Seeing these experts appear suddenly, Ou Xinlai was not the least surprised. It was cleaner to skip the talking and go straight to fighting.
“Attack!” Cao Xinshuo said coldly. The ten experts before them were all Level Ten supernatural practitioners—formidable opponents. This time, Ou Xinlai had no escape.
She stepped back and glanced at Ou Xinya, making sure she was still there—after all, Ou Xinya was her real target. If she escaped again, her mission would have been in vain.
Seeing Ou Xinya’s confident smile, Ou Xinlai knew she thought her death was certain.
With a backward step, Ou Xinlai activated Yin-Yang Reversal combined with the Immortal Pool Water Mirror. A blood mist appeared in the air with a “pop.”
Among Cao Xinshuo’s ten experts, four suddenly coughed up blood and collapsed, unable to rise again.
The Immortal Pool Water Mirror was a treasure Ou Xinlai had found in the Immortal Pool Ruins. It resembled liquid but ultimately transformed into a transparent glove that wrapped her hand.
It was tailor-made for Ou Xinlai, perfectly complementing her Yin-Yang Reversal technique. Though Yin-Yang Reversal could invert yin and yang, it had distance limitations. The Immortal Pool Water Mirror had no such limit but lacked offensive power.
Together, they compensated for each other’s weaknesses.
With the Immortal Pool Water Mirror, Ou Xinlai could, from anywhere within her line of sight, snap the neck of anyone she wished.
With just one move, Ou Xinlai had killed four of Cao Xinshuo’s ten experts.
Cao Xinshuo took a step back, shaken by Ou Xinlai’s power. If she could hold her own against ten Level Ten supernatural practitioners, that was impressive. Killing four outright was terrifying.
Ou Xinlai’s gaze then shifted to Ou Xinya. She had little interest in the remaining six experts, focusing instead on her primary target.
Ou Xinya was terrified to realize that not only did she want to kill Nicae, but that woman also wanted her dead.
Recalling Nicae’s lethal intent in the Immortal Pool Ruins, Ou Xinya regretted appearing before her, flaunting herself despite knowing Nicae wanted her life.
But Ou Xinlai gave no time for regret and launched directly at Ou Xinya.
Ou Xinya’s face suddenly turned ashen, blood trickling from her mouth, her heart pounding wildly. She clutched the front of her left chest tightly, a twisting pain squeezing her heart, making it hard to breathe.
“Help! Help me!” she cried to the six remaining experts.
Their mission was to kill Ou Xinlai. Though momentarily intimidated, Ou Xinya’s call snapped them out of it. They ignored her plea and charged toward Ou Xinlai’s life.
However, as the six lunged, two gusts of palm wind swept them aside like flies. Even without Yin-Yang Reversal, the Immortal Pool Water Mirror alone made repelling them effortless.
Ou Xinlai squeezed hard at Ou Xinya’s heart.
With a “pop,” Ou Xinya felt her heart shatter, unbearable pain flooding her body. Her eyes snapped open once more, then her breath ceased.
She had thought her days of glory were about to begin, but before any light could shine, her soul vanished, her jade body perished.
“Protect the emperor!” Cao Xinshuo, startled by Ou Xinlai’s prowess, quickly regained his composure. He cared little for Ou Xinya’s death—he had never cared for her and detested the older generation even more.
No sooner had Cao Xinshuo uttered these words than four top-tier supernatural experts from the Divine Cultivation Realm appeared to assist the ten others.
Ou Xinlai might handle ten Level Ten supernatural practitioners, but Cao Xinshuo refused to believe she could defy the odds against these elite experts of the Divine Cultivation Realm.
This was Cao Xinshuo’s trump card, yet he found himself forced to play it by Ou Xinlai’s relentless pressure.
