Chapter 145: Showtime
During class, Instructor Fang announced the upcoming sports meeting, encouraging all students to actively participate and bring honor to the class.
However, since there were very few men in the class, no one held out any hope, adopting a purely wait-and-watch attitude to observe the spectacle.
Consequently, the students lacked enthusiasm, which annoyed Instructor Fang slightly. She said, "This is a collective class activity. Even though we have fewer people, our momentum must not fall behind in the slightest!"
Thus, the students reluctantly began signing up, specifically picking the easiest events. Everyone scrambled to grab effortless sports like sprinting, long jump, and shot put.
In the end, Liu Sheng and Ren Xiadong ended up signing up for the exact same events: high jump and the 3,000-meter long-distance run. This left both of them feeling helpless, especially Ren Xiadong, who didn't want to participate in a single event. Had Instructor Fang not forced him, Ren Xiadong would rather have hauled water and done odd jobs than run three thousand meters.
At that moment, Liu Sheng wished time would pass faster, eagerly anticipating the arrival of Thursday's sports meeting.
When Thursday finally arrived, Liu Sheng woke up exceptionally early because he could no longer contain his excitement—or to put it bluntly, his desire to show off. Athletics was Liu Sheng's proudest domain; after all, he loved sports and was practically a professional at it!
Liu Sheng brought Ren Xiadong to the stadium viewing platform and looked at the opening formation squads from each class. The departments with many beauties fielded marching formations entirely composed of long-legged models, whereas Xiaojia's department looked like a sea of burly men.
From afar, Liu Sheng spotted Xiaojia among them. Suddenly, Liu Sheng understood why Xiaojia had such an intense yearning for the opposite sex: because everyone he interacted with on a daily basis was a grown man! If he didn't start taking an interest in women, the guys in their class were going to be in serious trouble!
Following the school leaders' speeches, the sports meeting officially began. Liu Sheng focused primarily on the long jump, as it was his specialty.
Watching athletes who were worse than the last, Liu Sheng wanted to laugh. They were either fouling or failing to land in the sandpit. Liu Sheng desperately wanted to step up and perform himself, but alas, he hadn't signed up for the event!
Just then, a classmate from Liu Sheng's class took his turn to jump. Seeing that the classmate was about to fall short of the sandpit, Liu Sheng helplessly froze time.
He leaped down from the viewing platform and gave the classmate suspended in mid-air a hard shove. Because time was frozen, the pushed classmate didn't shift excessively.
When Liu Sheng returned to the viewing platform and resumed the flow of time, that classmate suddenly soared a great distance, clearing over seven meters—a solid national first-tier athlete's standard.
The entire audience was dumbfounded, and even the judges couldn't believe that their school harbored such a powerhouse without anyone knowing. Meanwhile, Liu Sheng was secretly chuckling up on the viewing platform.
He turned to Ren Xiadong and said, "First place in the long jump definitely belongs to our class."
Next, he looked over at the throwing events, specifically the shot put competition, and told Ren Xiadong, "Let's go lend a hand over there!"
The two walked over to the shot put area. When it was their classmate's turn to throw, right before the shot put was about to land, Liu Sheng froze time once again, walked up to the floating metal ball in mid-air, and gently pushed it further.
When Liu Sheng returned to his spot and time resumed, the shot put—which should have landed—flew another five-plus meters forward, totaling over fourteen meters. That was easily first place!
After that, Liu Sheng didn't stay idle. He headed over to the 100-meter sprint venue and spotted a classmate from his class currently in last place. He walked up to the other competitors and kicked each one squarely in the backside. When time resumed, all the opponents tumbled to the ground, and his classmate inexplicably won first place!
Immediately afterward, the high jump competition that Liu Sheng had entered began. Liu Sheng said to the judge, "I won't jump any of the lower heights. I'll start after everyone else is too tired to jump."
The judge looked at Liu Sheng's arrogant attitude. Although annoyed, he agreed. There was indeed a rule in the high jump allowing competitors to skip earlier heights and enter directly whenever they wished once the bar reached a certain level.
When the bar reached 1.7 meters—Ren Xiadong's limit—the judge asked Liu Sheng, "Are you jumping at 1.7 meters, or raising the bar?"
Another high jump rule stated that the final one or two remaining athletes could choose the height, but the bar could only go up, never down.
Liu Sheng replied directly, "Let's set it at 1.99 meters for fun."
Looking at Liu Sheng's height, the judge warned, "If you fail to clear it, you'll be eliminated immediately!"
"I know!" Liu Sheng answered arrogantly.
The judge sneered and waved at the two staff members responsible for adjusting the height of the bar, signaling them to raise it to 1.99 meters!
Liu Sheng prepared himself, took an approach along an arc, sprang into the air, and successfully cleared 1.99 meters!
The entire stadium erupted into the loudest roar of the day, and the judge was utterly dumbfounded, muttering to himself, "Good grief, why are there so many monsters in the psychology major? How come I never noticed before? It looks like for any future major competitions, I'll have to go poach people from the psychology class!"
Just like that, first and second place were completely monopolized by Liu Sheng and Ren Xiadong!
Next, they looked toward the 400-meter race. Old Jiu was competing in this one. Liu Sheng initially wanted to help him, but seeing that Old Jiu maintained a leading position the entire way, he abandoned the idea.
After all, Old Jiu was someone who trained; his physical fitness was leagues above average.
During the subsequent women's events, with the assistance of Liu Sheng's time-freezing powers, they achieved a grand slam. Every single female student from Liu Sheng's class took first place, showing absolutely no mercy to the other classes. This left the school's sports majors completely humiliated.
This even startled the school's physical education teachers, who never expected the psychology class to be packed with powerhouses that didn't give the other classes a single opening!
Following the conclusion of the 4x100-meter relay, the first day of competition came to an end. Naturally, Liu Sheng's class took first place once again, as Liu Sheng ran the anchor leg, Ren Xiadong ran the first leg, and the other two members purely coasted along!
On the second morning, the 3,000-meter race commenced. Liu Sheng and Ren Xiadong took the lead right from the start. By the time the other students ran out of steam, Ren Xiadong's breathing had grown tight, but Liu Sheng looked completely unaffected.
Midway through the run, Ren Xiadong said to Liu Sheng, "Can you let me get first place?"
"Easy, I'll let you cross the finish line first later!" With that, Liu Sheng slowed his pace, dropped in behind Ren Xiadong, and ran alongside him.
First place wasn't important to Liu Sheng; what mattered was showing off. The high jump had already allowed him to hog the spotlight, so he was happy to cede the 3,000-meter first place to Ren Xiadong.
At the 11-minute mark, Ren Xiadong successfully crossed the finish line in first place, with Liu Sheng following closely behind in second. After finishing, Ren Xiadong collapsed onto the stadium turf, gasping heavily for air. Liu Sheng, on the other hand, was completely unphased. He sat down next to Ren Xiadong and said, "You're pretty amazing! Finishing in just over 11 minutes, you could practically enter the Olympics!"
At that moment, Ren Xiadong couldn't utter a single word and merely waved his hand, gesturing for Liu Sheng to shut up because he didn't want to hear or say anything right now!
Shortly after, Liu Sheng brought over two bottles of water. While splashing some on Ren Xiadong's face to cool him down, he asked, "Feeling refreshed now?"
Ren Xiadong finally managed to speak, "I'm not hot. I just feel like I've lost my legs—I can't even feel them anymore!"
Liu Sheng burst into laughter, then began massaging Ren Xiadong's legs, saying, "Your legs are just numb from running. Usually, you don't push yourself that hard, but this time you gave it everything you had and broke past your limit, which is why this happened. Rest for a bit and you'll be fine."
In the afternoon's 4x200-meter relay, Ren Xiadong still ran the first leg and Liu Sheng ran the anchor leg, with the middle two runners just tagging along as usual!
Ultimately, thanks to the efforts of Liu Sheng and Ren Xiadong, they won first place once again.
When the final results were announced, the psychology class swept the board: first place in the men's team category, first place in the women's team category, and first place in overall class rankings. This left the sports majors utterly disgraced—after training every day, they couldn't even beat students who studied books all day long!
This left the school's physical education teachers astounded as well; some even joked about disbanding the sports major teams and simply sending the psychology class to competitions instead.
Even in national-level tournaments, they could probably secure top-three finishes across the board.
After the closing ceremony concluded, Instructor Fang was overjoyed. After all, these accomplishments would be immensely helpful for her future promotions and salary increases!
