Chapter 127: Why Was He Silent for So Long?
At the other end of the city, Taoist Yunhe was standing beside an old man. "Senior Brother, why did you rush over here overnight?"
The old man was none other than Yunhe’s mysterious senior brother, Yunlong.
Yunlong looked at Yunhe with undisguised disdain. "Junior brother, I don't mean to be harsh, but look at yourself. What kind of outfit is this? If Master knew you had become like this, he would be spinning in his grave! When he was alive, he said you had the most talent in the entire sect. How did you end up like this?"
Yunhe shrugged. "If you are not the fish, how can you know the joy of the fish? Look at how relaxed my life is as a carefree spirit."
"Relaxed?" Yunlong glanced at him. "Just look at your bruised and swollen face!"
Yunhe glared. "I like it!"
Yunlong shrugged, indifferent, and handed Yunhe a box. "Here, don't say I don't think of you. I brought you a few bottles of the moonshine I brewed this year."
Yunhe snatched the box impatiently. "That’s more like a senior brother! But isn't this too little?"
"If you think it's too little, give it back!" Yunlong reached out to grab it, but Yunhe quickly dodged. "It's mine now! Anyway, you must have come because of that Yang Meng, right?"
Yunlong nodded and pointed to a laptop on the table, which was playing the footage of Yang Meng at the police station.
"Is this kid a practitioner of both martial arts and sorcery?" Yunlong asked.
Yunhe nodded. "I believe so."
Yunlong frowned. "Is he or isn't he? What do you mean by 'I believe so'?"
Yunhe sighed helplessly. "I am certain he is a sorcerer, but I can't confirm if he is a martial artist. I only saw him move twice: once when he blocked a kick from that young man, and the other time when he grabbed your disciple by the neck."
"If that’s not a martial artist, what is?" Yunlong widened his eyes. "Do you think Little Seventeen is just some weakling?"
Yunhe shrugged. "Then he’s a dual practitioner! Though he still ended up getting smashed into a wall by someone, didn't he?"
Yunlong pointed to a file on the table. "Take a look at this."
Yunhe opened it. "Hmm? Top secret? Am I allowed to see this?"
"As if you haven't seen them before. Check if this is the same young man you saw yesterday," Yunlong asked.
Yunhe glanced at the file and immediately said, "It's him!"
Yunlong let out a long sigh after reading it. "He really has returned!"
Yunhe asked in confusion, "Who is he?"
"It's all in the file. Can't you read it yourself?" Yunlong was clearly in a bad mood.
After flipping through the documents, Yunhe gasped.
This person appeared out of nowhere, calling himself "Ye Feng." In just one month, he had committed thirty-seven murders. It could be said that he was either killing people or on his way to do so.
Even more terrifying was that his crimes were all "family-ending" cases—he wiped out entire households!
The organization Yunlong belonged to, "Shenwu," was a department dedicated to managing and handling extraordinary individuals who couldn't be dealt with through conventional means. At the time, the ten strongest members of Shenwu had attacked "Ye Feng" simultaneously, yet they couldn't do a thing to him. Their assessment of him afterward was: to deal with this guy, you'd need a nuclear bomb!
Strangely, "Ye Feng" had not killed them. After knocking them all down, he committed twelve more massacres and then disappeared.
What was even more bizarre was that the victims in these forty-nine cases had no connection to one another. No one knew his motive for killing.
After that killing spree, "Ye Feng" was never seen again. Later, there were reports suggesting he was in Europe, though it was unconfirmed. Regardless, he remained the number one person on Shenwu's watch list.
What shocked Yunhe the most was that the records were from forty years ago! Yet, the "Ye Feng" in the photo looked exactly the same as the one Yunhe had seen!
No change in appearance for forty years? Women would go crazy for his beauty secrets!
Yunlong asked, "What happened yesterday? Why did he spare you?"
Judging by what happened last night, "Ye Feng" was still the same cold-blooded killer, yet he had spared Yunhe and the others. Yunlong wanted to know exactly what had transpired.
Yunhe said, speechless, "How many times do I have to tell you? I really don't know! I was knocked unconscious immediately. I don't know what happened between Yang Meng and him afterward. When I woke up, it was already like that."
Yunlong opened a file on the computer and became engrossed in reading it. Yunhe peeked over. Good grief, it was a detailed file on Yang Meng, including his family background, even noting the time he secretly cut a female classmate’s hair in elementary school.
Collecting so much data in one night? The power of Shenwu was evident.
"Huh? The Ministry of Health is looking for him too? What is this? Suspecting he has the ability to cure all diseases? That’s nonsense!" Yunlong lamented.
Yunhe interrupted his reading. "What have you decided to do about this young man, Yang?"
Yunlong looked at Yunhe and shook his head. "What to do? Observe him for a while. Don't look at me like that; I haven't decided yet! This kid lived for over twenty years without showing any signs of his abilities, and then suddenly popped up. I don't know who his master is, but based on what you said, he must be a disciple of some reclusive sect. It's hard to get a read on someone like that, so it's not wise to act rashly. Besides, isn't the Ministry of Health watching him? The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. I’ll be that oriole. Junior brother, since you have a connection with him, spend more time around him!"
"How am I supposed to do that?" Yunhe’s eyes widened. "You don't know how infuriating that kid is!"
Yunlong countered, "Don't you have a Bagua jade pendant with him?"
Yunhe was stunned. "Is there anything you don't know? Fine, I finally understand why you were willing to bring me wine this time—it was all for this! My senior brother, isn't this a bit ruthless? Exploiting your own junior brother?"
Yunlong looked at him. "Would you like to give the wine back?"
"In your dreams!" Yunhe clutched the wine jar. "I’ll go ask him for the pendant later!"
Yunlong smiled slightly but kept staring at the photo of Yang Meng in the file, lost in thought. *Where did this kid come from? Why did he stay hidden for so long, and why couldn't he endure the loneliness anymore? What is he trying to do?*
If Yang Meng knew what he was thinking, he would surely pat Yunlong on the shoulder and say: "Buddy, you’re overthinking it."
Why had he stayed quiet for so long? Because he hadn't received the inheritance of the Great Emperor of the Eastern Peak! Otherwise, would he have been content working a dead-end job for so many years?
And what was Yang Meng doing at this moment?
He had returned to his hotel room, staring at the scene before him in complete astonishment.
Zhang Quanbiao had woken up and was gorging himself on food! A table full of fine wine and dishes, and he was eating with great relish.
"The chef at this hotel has great skills!" Zhang Quanbiao saw Yang Meng enter and gave a thumbs-up. "You should try some too!"
Yang Meng pulled up a chair and sat down. "Do you know who I am?"
"Of course! We met at the police station, right?" Zhang Quanbiao said. "You booked this room for me? Good taste. I used to stay in luxury hotels every day, but the food was usually terrible! My friend, I don't know why you brought me here, but there’s no such thing as a free lunch. You must have a reason for looking for me. I think I’ve earned this meal, don't you?"
Now it was Yang Meng’s turn to scratch his head. Was he back to normal, or what?
Yang Meng thought for a moment and asked, "Hey, buddy, didn't you say you wanted to take me to see your daughter? I’m still waiting for you to take me."
Zhang Quanbiao’s reaction was intense. He flipped the table, sending the food scattering across the floor.
"What the hell are you trying to do? Are you mocking me? My wife and daughter are dead! If you don’t give me a straight answer, I’ll kill you!" Zhang Quanbiao glared at Yang Meng with fury.
Yang Meng watched him, completely unfazed. *Kill me? Do you think you’re that guy from last night, who kicked me so hard I lost my bearings?*
"Looks like you really are back to normal," Yang Meng said calmly. "Alright, don't be nervous. Sit down!"
Zhang Quanbiao walked up to Yang Meng and loomed over him. "Who the hell are you?"
Yang Meng spread his hands. "Believe it or not, I was sent by your wife to help."
Without hesitation, Zhang Quanbiao threw a punch at Yang Meng!
Yang Meng caught his fist. "Buddy, don't be so excitable. I’m not mocking you. You hide your private savings in the lampshade, and your wife knows about it—she just pretends not to. You’re a bit silly, aren't you? Why hide money in a lampshade? Doesn't the shadow of the money show up whenever you turn on the light?"
Lü Liling had just told Yang Meng this, claiming it was a secret only she knew.
Zhang Quanbiao became even more enraged. "You dare investigate me?"
He swung his other fist.
Yang Meng shoved him, and Zhang Quanbiao fell onto the bed. Then, Yang Meng stood up and walked toward him.
Zhang Quanbiao was dazed from the fall. As he opened his eyes and saw Yang Meng approaching, he instinctively clutched his clothes, his voice trembling. "You... what do you want? I... I have a venereal disease! Stay away!"
Yang Meng was so annoyed he laughed, then slapped Zhang Quanbiao on the forehead. "What the hell are you thinking?"
Zhang Quanbiao clutched his forehead. "Then what do you want? Who are you?"
Yang Meng scratched his head. "This is hard to explain. How about this: do you want to see your wife?"
Zhang Quanbiao’s eyes widened. "Are you going to kill me?"
Yang Meng was speechless. He didn't know how to communicate with him anymore. Was he normal, or wasn't he?
*Forget it. Let actions speak louder than words.*
Yang Meng landed a heavy punch on Zhang Quanbiao’s stomach. Zhang Quanbiao’s vision went black, and he vomited everything he had just eaten.
"Why did you hit me? Ugh... wife?"
