Yang Meng asked with curiosity, "Chen Jiao, you said his name is Di Wei? Is he the son of Di Shouye from the Municipal Hospital?"

Chen Jiao nodded. "Yes! Do you know him?"

"I know his old man! A super annoying geezer!" Yang Meng replied. "Chen Jiao, is working at the hospital that lucrative? A department director's son can flaunt a sports car like this around town? Man, Pan Anguo was bragging to me about how incorruptible they were, but it seems there's something fishy going on here. Next time I see Pan Anguo, I'm definitely going to ask him what's going on!"

Chen Jiao was stunned. "You know President Pan too?"

Yang Meng nodded. "An even more annoying geezer."

Standing to the side, Di Wei was breaking out in a cold sweat. Who exactly was this Yang Meng? He addressed Pan Anguo by his full name so casually. Pan Anguo was his father's friend and superior—how could he not know that? Did he fail to check his horoscope before leaving the house today? Who were these people he had run into?

"Uh, what you're saying makes sense. I really should have my father look into this when I get back," Chen Jiao said. "Officer Ling, we'll need the police to cooperate when the time comes."

Ling Feng grinned. "Miss Chen, you're being too polite. This is what we police are supposed to do."

Di Wei panicked. Judging by their conversation, they were going to investigate his father? He knew his father's temper all too well. He wasn't worried about his father being found guilty of anything, as the old man had spent his entire career building a reputation for being "upright and clean," but if his father were to be investigated because of him, the old man might literally drop dead from anger!

To him, that would be the ultimate disgrace.

"You've misunderstood! This isn't my car! It's Director Zhou's car; he just lent it to me to drive!" Di Wei exclaimed.

"Director Zhou? Who is that?" Yang Meng asked, puzzled.

Qiao Yu sneered after hearing this. "Who else could it be but the Sales Director of Norton Medical Instruments?"

Yang Meng slapped his forehead in realization. "Oh, that guy who's always 'in heat'! Zhou Chun! I remember now! Ling Feng, I'm a bit slow, so there are some things I don't understand. As your childhood friend, and with no conflict of interest between us, if I let you ride my motorcycle, you'd be subject to an internal investigation. So, I want to know, if a medical device sales director lends a car to the son of a hospital department head, is there something fishy going on here? How does that saying go? People won't even lend their wives, let alone their cars, right?"

Ling Feng replied, "Mengmeng, I can't answer that. I'm a police officer, and I deal with evidence. If there's evidence, there's a problem; if there isn't, there isn't. It's better to let the organization investigate this."

Yang Meng snapped his fingers. "BINGO, once they investigate, everything will be clear!"

Di Wei said anxiously, "Investigate what? I just borrowed the car for a drive. I'll return it to him right now!"

Ling Feng said, "Don't be nervous, Mr. Di. A clear conscience needs no excuse!"

Di Wei was taken aback, looking at Ling Feng, not understanding what he meant.

Ling Feng continued, "I was investigated by the organization a while back, so I have some experience. They won't just be looking into this car. Every interaction between you, this Manager Huo, and that Director Zhou will be thoroughly checked. You have to believe that the state has the capability to do that."

Di Wei's face turned ashen. That was exactly what he was afraid of! He had been hanging out with Zhou Chun and his crew every day lately. Not to mention his relationship with Huo Yan. If anything came to light, his father would break his legs!

Qiao Yu held several SD cards, which contained evidence of Di Wei's reckless driving captured by the other riders present. "The evidence for reckless driving is all here. Time to call the police!"

Di Wei took a deep breath. "Isn't driving on these mountain roads just racing? That was just standard racing technique."

"Who's racing with you?" Qiao Yu pointed his middle finger directly at Di Wei, but then noticed Yang Meng nearby and retracted it. "Just because we ride these mountain roads doesn't mean we're racing. Look around—aside from those kids on modified scooters, how many people are actually racing on Qingniu Mountain? Cut the crap. We admit our friend kicked your side mirror, and we'll pay for the damages! Jingjing, call the police right now!"

Di Wei looked at Huo Yan and Lu Xin, unsure of what to do.

Despite his usual devil-may-care attitude, Di Wei was actually quite capable—at twenty-nine, he had already become an emergency room physician at the Municipal Hospital. That was no small feat; in some developed countries, it takes at least eleven years to train an ER doctor. It didn't take quite that long domestically, but it was definitely one of the most demanding specialties.

Although he had chosen medicine under his father's influence and stuck through three years of a master's degree and two years of a doctorate, he loved cars. However, his father, Di Shouye, was extremely strict, forbidding him from playing with cars and tightly controlling his finances, so he had to sneak around to find opportunities.

His life had changed drastically since meeting Zhou Chun; not only was he wined and dined every day, but he also gained the favor of a beautiful woman, which made Di Wei feel somewhat intoxicated by his own success. Today, Zhou Chun had given him the car to drive while he was out with Huo Yan, and he had wanted to show off on the mountain roads of Qingniu Mountain to impress her.

Unfortunately, most people on the mountain today were riding motorcycles, so he couldn't get up to speed. Of course, there were plenty of novice riders who didn't care about speed and just enjoyed the wind, so Di Wei had started showing off his skills, finally saving face in front of Huo Yan.

He hadn't expected these motorcyclists to have such short tempers that they would kick off his mirror at the slightest provocation. This enraged Di Wei, and Huo Yan added fuel to the fire, calling her assistant to back them up. They felt the other party was entirely in the wrong for breaking the mirror, ignoring the fact that they had violated traffic laws regarding reckless driving and speeding.

Speeding on Qingniu Mountain was common, as the motorcyclists weren't exactly law-abiding citizens. But why did so many people still ride here? It was simple: there was no surveillance. Aside from the occasional traffic police checkpoint, no one managed the area.

However, the riders here, for their own safety, almost always wore cameras to record their rides. That was how the evidence of Di Wei's reckless driving came to exist. Only now did they realize that things weren't as they had imagined, and if they pushed the issue, they would be held accountable, leading to even more trouble—most importantly, potentially affecting Di Wei's father!

Di Wei knew exactly why Zhou Chun and Huo Yan were getting close to him: they wanted to use his father's connections to get their medical devices into the Municipal Hospital. He had thought he could just play dumb and enjoy the perks—who doesn't like a freebie?

He believed he could walk away unscathed, but he never expected that taking small advantages would lead to such a mess. If this wasn't resolved, both he and his father would face trouble.

Thinking of this, he felt a headache coming on. He looked at Huo Yan for help, but she was stunned herself. How could they have offended the daughter of Chen Hanbin? Wouldn't this make it even harder for their company to develop in Handong City?

She wasn't worried about Di Wei anymore; she was more concerned about how to talk to Chen Jiao. If Chen Jiao's father started making things difficult for their company, she might as well pack her bags and go home.

Seeing the expressions on Di Wei and Huo Yan's faces, Lu Xin felt a glimmer of hope—his chance to shine had arrived! He spoke to Yang Meng, "Uncle Yang..."

Yang Meng waved him off. "Are we that close? Don't act like we know each other!"

These were the exact words Lu Xin had used on Yang Meng earlier, and Yang Meng returned them word for word.

Ling Feng asked curiously, "What did he call you?"

Yang Meng pouted toward Lu Xin. "He's that 'high-achieving' son of Sister Ma!"

Ling Feng had a sudden realization. "Oh, so he's the son with the 'mother-complex' who suspected you had ulterior motives toward Sister Ma! Long Xia and Hu Erleng called me earlier just to rant, saying you wouldn't help with anything, and even though they thought Sister Ma would help, she's nowhere to be found. Those two are exhausted like dogs."

Yang Meng curled his lip. "How can you say that? The guy is a 'properly educated' university student. How could he be a foolish son?"

Ling Feng shrugged. "He turned down a free share of the profits; if that's not foolish, what is? And he suspected you and Sister Ma were having an affair? What's up with that? You want an extra mother to take care of?"

"I can't even take care of my own mother, let alone add another one to the mix!" Yang Meng waved his hand. "This Lu Xin has great ambitions. Didn't you hear him say he didn't know me earlier? Fine, then we don't know each other!"

Lu Xin felt awkward. "Uncle Yang, look at what you're saying. Actually, my mom told me the whole story, and it was me who misunderstood you! My mom is too embarrassed to contact you now."

Yang Meng sneered. "I'd be a fool to believe you! If that were true, you wouldn't have said what you did when you saw me. I don't know how well you did in university, but your ability to tell people what they want to hear is truly impressive. No wonder you managed to get an internship at Norton."

Lu Xin coughed dryly. "Uncle Yang, for my mother's sake, show me some respect. Let's just let this go, what do you think?"

Yang Meng pointed at Ling Feng and shook his head. "I don't think so. This was never my business from the start. Don't you see the officer is right here? Me showing you respect is useless! That would be interfering with judicial justice, and I'd be committing a crime! Do you understand?"

Lu Xin looked distressed. Who are you trying to scare? The police officer is your buddy; can't you just say a word to make a big problem small and a small problem disappear?

This guy was immune to both soft and hard tactics. What was he supposed to do?
