Chapter Seventy-Eight: Arsenal? Treasury!
As Germany’s secret underground armory, its location was naturally concealed, unknown even to ordinary German soldiers and low-ranking officers. After the battle, the vanguard of the Allied forces would prioritize securing the spoils of war from Germany’s research facilities—weapon schematics, advanced technology, and elite scientists. As for the armory’s supplies, those would be left to the logistics personnel, who would later arrive and transport them away by military aircraft. This meant that, up to now, no soldiers had shown any signs of searching the underground armory.
This had worked in favor of Kyle, who had learned of the armory’s whereabouts from the surrendered German marshal before anyone else. He posted Logan at the entrance to stand guard, then approached the piled supplies without bothering to lift the green tarps for inspection. There was no need; within three meters, the supplies locked away in iron crates quickly revealed their item card information.
German rifles, Mauser 98Ks, Mauser pistols—all military supplies of varying quality, abundant yet common among German troops. After over a month of large-scale battles, collecting intact spoils from defeated soldiers, Kyle’s card space now stored nearly a thousand German weapons.
“Green item cards—extracting one takes a second,” Kyle mused, not lingering over the mound of arms but moving on to another pile. Previously he had no choice; now, with options, he would naturally prioritize extracting more valuable items first.
Camouflage raincoats. Sergeant field uniforms. Squad machine guns.
He checked several piles near the entrance, but they all proved to be standard military gear of white or green quality, leaving him slightly disappointed. Camouflage steel helmets: German-made natural-colored military helmets—green item cards. Helmets again, and green at that? What was the point?
Shaking his head, Kyle delved deeper into the armory. As he reached another pile, numerous item cards bearing the word “gold” appeared, leaving him utterly stunned.
Gold ingots: German-made, rectangular, 25 kilograms. Rare green item card.
Gold bricks?
Kyle’s pupils contracted, for not only at his feet but within three meters, the four-meter-tall wall of supplies all displayed similar item card information. He quickly circled the armory, confirming that each mound was a trove of gold products, of immense value.
Gold rings, emerald gems, golden chains studded with diamonds—countless rare green cards stacked together, impossible to estimate the exact inventory at a glance.
“Armory? This is more like Germany’s national treasury!” Kyle was dumbfounded, never before having seen so many gold and jewels; he felt as though he were in a dream. Now he understood: the weapons and supplies placed at the entrance of the secret underground armory were mere decoys. What Hitler truly wished to conceal was the priceless treasure hidden behind the military supplies.
“All of this belongs to me,” Kyle breathed deeply, suppressing his excitement, and began extracting the items around him one by one.
Let the card extraction begin!
If someone were to privately transport these treasures away with military aircraft, it would leave clues for others to trace. But by converting them directly into cards, no matter how future nations investigated, it would be impossible to link the theft to Kyle.
Nearly two hours later.
Having just extracted the last golden ring into his card space, Kyle finally stopped after continuous, uninterrupted card pulls. “The feeling of immense wealth… not bad at all.” He smacked his lips; previously, owning forty percent of Stark Industries had made him comfortably rich, but now, he could truly claim to rival nations in wealth.
Who could say they were richer than him now? Well, perhaps the Black Panther king of Wakanda…
Suddenly, the disorganized sounds from the main entrance snapped Kyle out of his reverie. He turned to see Logan rushing into the armory, warning him, “A Soviet reconnaissance squad is approaching—about sixty meters away.”
“Quick reflexes—they must have finished dividing the spoils from the research facilities,” Kyle thought, then said to Logan, “Let’s leave before they find this place. Prepare the high-explosive grenades; before we go, destroy the underground armory and erase any trace of our presence.”
“Understood,” Logan nodded.
Kyle surveyed the emptied rear section of the armory, ready to depart, but suddenly paused as a thought struck him.
He glanced back toward the far end of the underground armory, a question forming in his mind. The German military had a penchant for constructing basement layers—could this near-treasury-level underground armory lack a hidden chamber?
Five minutes later.
The Soviet reconnaissance team reached the main entrance of the armory just as a powerful explosion shook the ground, collapsing the door and surrounding stone, burying the entrance to the largest armory.
Meanwhile, in a concealed chamber adjacent to the original armory, daylight blazed anew. Logan, wielding a military-grade flashlight, banished the darkness ahead, ensuring a safe path. His free hand extended wolfish claws, prying open crate after crate lining the hidden room, revealing their contents under the beam.
“These are…” Kyle, following behind Logan, stared in astonishment at the double-secured items stored within the wooden boxes.
Twelve Sunflowers in a Vase: One of Van Gogh’s original masterpieces. Blue item card.
The Last Supper: One of Da Vinci’s original paintings. Blue item card.
Venus: Michelangelo’s renowned sculpture. Blue item card.
Heart of the Ocean: A heart-shaped necklace crafted from a rare, pure blue sapphire by a master artisan. Blue item card.
It seemed Germany had plundered the world’s finest treasures during the war. No wonder the gold and jewels were stacked in the outer armory; the true value lay within the hidden chamber. Each item here, if placed in a future auction, would cause a sensation and fetch astronomical prices as a world-class collectible.
Click.
Logan reached the chamber’s end, opening the last two large boxes with his claws. The sealed items inside emitted a sparkling blue light, illuminating the entire room.
Kyle’s azure eyes reflected the glow as he murmured, “Residual energy of gemstones…”
