Recruiting character posts:
Haha, since “Purple Cloud Soaring Pavilion” suggested it, I’ll recruit characters here. The upcoming chapters will soon need some new characters to enrich the story.
1. Antagonists
Don’t be too overpowered.
2. Protagonists
Just don’t outshine the main character. Can be players or NPCs.
The current progress is in the early phase, so please refrain from designing any super powerful characters for now—famous generals from the Three Kingdoms are temporarily not accepted. Those would rarely get chosen. Preferably, extras.
Everyone can be creative; if your design fits the plot’s progress, I’ll add it to the story. If your minor character is clever and interesting, their role can be expanded.

Since it's just beginning, I'll hurry and claim an extra role—NPC! Let me think about what to be… Can't be too strong in the early game, that’s a headache. I’ll be a medical-type NPC—barefoot doctor “Ghost Chang.” Hmm, the name seems odd… For the plot, set up a quest “Eliminate the Mountain Bandits”—I get captured as a military doctor, and once rescued, mission accomplished. Wahaha, I’m so talented.
3rd reply, posted on 2008-1-23 1:35:22
I’ll be an extra too—a wandering cavalryman. The details can be random. Cavalryman’s name: Super.

Supplement: Must help the protagonist—not a villain.

Haha, here’s a character: positive NPC, a growing general who can command troops, basic stats can be low. Name: Zhang Feng, courtesy name Zilan. Perhaps you can tie him to other Zhang generals as foreshadowing, so he can be recruited later.
6th reply, posted on 2008-1-24 12:13:03
NPC: barefoot doctor, “Eliminate Mountain Bandits” quest, captured as military doctor, then rescued.
NPC: wandering cavalryman, assists protagonist, not a villain.
NPC: Zhang Feng, courtesy Zilan. Foreshadowing.
Hmm, I'll consider these characters and add them in when appropriate.
7th reply, posted on 2008-1-24 12:47:58
NPC: Duanmu Shengnan, rare wandering general (cross-dressing male/ handsome female), all-rounder in internal affairs and military, cold personality, commands a squad of 12 unique troops—Xiliang mounted archers. Skills: can train (recruit) Xiliang mounted archers, etc.
Event 1: An NPC faction falls into chaos, this hero leaves home and becomes a mountain lord (Eliminate Mountain Bandits?).
Event 2: After defeat, hero requires the protagonist to complete a quest before considering allegiance (Hero’s Test).
Event 3: During a hunt, the protagonist shows care for subordinates and people; hero genuinely acknowledges protagonist as their lord.
Hero appears no later than three months into game time.

Player
Uses spear
If possible, make him as impressive as having trained under the Spear King Tong Yuan and as a fellow disciple with Zhao Zilong.
If not, just make him formidable enough.
Protagonist role
Has no game knowledge, is a newbie. Protagonist helps him by accident, and he then considers the protagonist a good person.
Thank you.

“Xiao Zhuo”?
The name is neutral; is it male or female? Approximate age?

I Walk Sideways's father is the governor of Jianye… In the Three Kingdoms, the office of governor was replaced by the duties of Inspector-General, often combined with the rank of general, as the highest local military and political authority, with immense power.

This is my first submission, hope it gets chosen, and when’s today’s chapter?
30th reply, posted on 2008-2-1 22:26:19
Thinking about it, the crossbow is actually a good weapon. Small-scale use may not be too damaging, but large-scale use is terrifying. Mongol horse archers are born warriors on horseback. People like the Qiang are unlikely to learn such skills, so focus on the crossbow. Slow to reload, but if you shoot once, then retreat a bit. It’s hard to succeed with players around, but since you’re in Xiliang, such troops should not be absent.
31st reply, posted on 2008-2-1 22:34:29
The current level is low, so cavalry might be early. But this is Xiliang, where anyone can ride. The system should give some protection, like allowing horse riding five levels earlier. Otherwise, central plains infantry will be tough to handle before you get cavalry. The central plains have abundant grain, so more troops. Without system protection, it’s fine at first, but as your city grows, the opponent’s numbers will crush you. Pay attention to this—at what level can you ride? Otherwise, hard to explain later.

NPC: Zhao Gujun
Belief: Loyalty to the sovereign, extreme sense of justice, would give away his last copper coin. Wields a spear and shield, wears leather armor, rides a jujube-red horse, trained by an unknown commander, whose dying wish was to pass on his arms, armor, and horse. After three years on the Xiliang battlefield, he vowed to kill all horse bandits.
Subordinates: 2 spear-and-shield cavalry, bodyguards.
Recruitment requirement: Simple—kill all horse bandits; ignores those who spare them.
Can be a reward for the horse bandit Cheng Jian quest.

Another one before bed
Northern White Tiger, one of the Four Holy Villages
Located in Beiping, Youzhou
Village chief: Luo Zhao, courtesy Shiqi
Believes in attack conquering all; village and troops are absolutely offensive, never defensive (troops don’t use shields, but armor is essential, village won’t build walls unless necessary).
Troops: mainly cavalry.
Personality: Calm, but extremely irritable regarding certain issues (like arranged marriages).
Has been fighting northern Xianbei and other nomads since the beginning, so always strong in battle, subordinates are mostly hot-blooded men.
39th reply, posted on 2008-2-3 3:06:49 | Deleted | Featured
Eastern Black Tortoise, second of the Four Holy Villages
Located in Beihai, Qingzhou
Village chief: Li Yutao, courtesy Wenping
Admires Jia Wenhe, considers him the best strategist of the Three Kingdoms, so is the poisonous type, friend of White Tiger Luo Zhao and Vermilion Bird Cao Zhihui.
Believes in being undefeated rather than invincible; attack isn’t strong (compared to other top experts), defense is nearly invincible, works well with White Tiger (as countless games paired them together).
Troops: mainly heavy armored troops (heavy armor, big shield, broadsword).
Personality: Honest, trustworthy, extremely cunning against enemies, keen observer.
Located in Qingzhou, wealthy and well-fed, has tricked countless people.
40th reply, posted on 2008-2-3 3:15:22 | Deleted | Featured
Southern Vermilion Bird, third of the Four Holy Villages
Located in Gaoxing, Jiaozhou
Village chief: Cao Zhihui, courtesy Anran
Admires darkness, personally has excellent social skills, also a combat maniac (level-up maniac), believes only numbers like level can reflect progress.
Wants both attack and defense, but values attack more.
Troops: Mountain raiders (homemade units, wilderness experts, ordinary on plains, wear leather armor but wield heavy broad swords, nicknamed “door boards”—big and heavy).
Personality: Impulsive, always thinks of the worst first.
Money and grain are hard to find, but treasures abound—Jiaozhou is full of mountains, forests, and water.

Western Azure Dragon, fourth of the Four Holy Villages
Located in Jie Ting, Yongzhou
Village chief: Li Yangling, courtesy Wu Xi
Loves reading, lives by the principle of balance, seeks average rather than extremes.
Most balanced in attack and defense, also the most featureless.
Troops: Iron Bow Cavalry (heavy armor, can use bows, fight on foot or horseback, nearly all-round, can catch tigers in the mountains and dragons in the sea).
Personality: Gentle, keeps a calm mind, looks at things from multiple perspectives.
Has money, grain, and some treasures—truly balanced.
Ps: These four villages aren’t the ones I wrote about, but each village has a character representing one of the Four Holy Beasts.

NPC character: He Xiaosan

Age: 15 (farmers’ children mature early)
Skills: farming, boxing
Personality: naive and adorable.
NPC: He Laoshan
Xiaosan’s father; previously learned some boxing and swordplay from retired soldiers in the village, loves farming, honest and upright.

Forget it, lest I forget my tech ideas, let me jot them down:
1. Wooden or bamboo armor, inspired by Japanese armor—if not so intricate, just two big wooden boards tied together as plate armor, definitely more defensive than cloth, and can be used as training gear (for physique, strength, etc.), hahaha.
2. Ceramics—let He Xiaosan invent them; 15 years old, still a child, playing with clay by the river isn’t strange, firing clay isn’t too odd; if agreed, it’s done.
3. Bow—Xiao Bai has a carpenter, making a bow body isn’t a problem; bowstring is easier, after killing so many animals, take tendons, twist several together, dry, and use.
4. Ballista—same as bow, but not modern version, just a super-sized bow.
49th reply, posted on 2008-2-3 17:31:50 | Deleted | Featured
5. With a carpenter, sharpen a wooden stick as a spear, also good for training the carpenter. Blacksmith can make them too, doesn’t always have to be iron swords, knives are simpler than swords, shields can be made from a big iron sheet.
6. Leather armor—after killing so many animals, can make leather armor.
7. Screws (even threaded iron rods)—with a blacksmith, no reason screws can’t be made, even if simplified large ones, to fix objects; with screws, can make iron-plated wooden shields, fixed with screws.
8. Mid-game ballista, inspired by Warcraft’s elven ballista—three-bladed flying knife, central two sides protrude on a threaded iron rod, upper and lower sides have threaded iron blocks, two big bowstrings, same firing principle as above; as it fires, the threaded rod and blocks rub and spin, whatever effect after it flies, needless to say, cheat code for siege and field battles.
50th reply, posted on 2008-2-3 17:37:26 | Deleted | Featured
9. Suddenly thought, blacksmith can make throwing darts, simple enough—if not, iron pieces scattered on the ground as traps.
10. Add sharp iron protrusions to shields, use shield as a weapon to smash, then Xiao Bai learns combat skill “Shield Bash,” inspired by Paladin’s shield bash in Diablo.

NPC: Ji Feifei
Courtesan (ancient courtesan was refined, like a high-class geisha, not a prostitute), special talent, escaped unwilling to be a concubine, passed through Xiao Bai village, performed arts for travel expenses, recruited by Xiao Bai (thanks to Qiushui), opens a brothel for Xiao Bai (hahaha, brothel incoming, blood boiling)
Skills: musical instruments, singing, dancing, poetry and literature
Personality: gentle, emotional
Besides the brothel, also helps the villagers move toward literacy and culture (teaching reading and writing)

NPC: Wu Tong San
Age: 65
Special talent: Tomb Raider
Tong San: expert in tomb raiding, treasure identification, trap specialist
Retired and reclusive in old age, but the woods were cut down by Xiao Bai, so he had to find someone to serve. (Why look for someone? Tomb raiders caught are beaten to death—except military, who raid tombs themselves)
Now there is someone for treasure appraisal, tomb raiding, traps~~~

Special talent: storyteller
Age: thirty
Storyteller, loves talking about military, famous scholars, and generals, needs only a table, chair, and tea.
Effect: boosts intelligence, morale, motivation, and knowledge
Storytellers seem to be everywhere, intelligence gathering~~~
After recruitment, has a fixed intelligence source, though not high level (talent’s family not high level)

Hahaha, I’ve helped friends set up several books, but those idiots all said it got stuck, then dropped it.
Also, set up that tech building, surely I’m not the only one with ideas, but posts get buried.
Should have a building for architecture too, otherwise it’s chaotic.
Also, door board broadsword should be easy, a heap of iron made into a shield-sized, heavy, hard sword, whether tempered or not doesn't matter—if it can't kill, it can crush. Give it to Fierce Villager No. 1, smash anyone in sight.
Similarly, hammers should be easy, make a mold, pour in molten iron, cool, and it’s a hammer—Li Yuanba reborn~~~
58th reply, posted on 2008-2-4 1:06:01 | Deleted | Featured
Also, realistically, some professions should have job changes, like hunter’s lodge (from other posts) hunters turn archers, or just ambush in the wild; butcher’s lodge (same) butchers can become infantry, generals. High-level chefs usually have higher martial skills than some generals, since they use knives more than soldiers, as long as they overcome fear of blood and death, they become true butchers.

Player: Han and Tang Reborn
Located in Luoyang
Village name: Great Han
Supports legitimacy, firmly backs the Emperor, surrounded by rebellious players (when others want to destroy, he wants to protect, always acting contrary to the main goal), like-minded, hot-blooded men.
Personality: Dignity above all, would rather die after slaying countless enemies on the battlefield than die otherwise.
A respectable yet tragic strongman, later besieged by countless players in mid-late game.
60th reply, posted on 2008-2-4 2:15:31 | Deleted | Featured
Meat, hides—are they dropped or self-butchered? If dropped, it’s inconsistent with your river fish setting. A big beast yields only a few pieces or pounds of meat—not realistic! Also, avoid too much beef, as cattle weren’t easily slaughtered then—they were main farming tools!
61st reply, posted on 2008-2-4 2:51:12 | Deleted | Featured
Regarding meat, just saw the update—venison, acceptable, sheep not really; nomads raise sheep, if they find out, wouldn't there be conflict? Beef is impossible, though Emperor Wu increased horses, cattle were for plowing and hauling, who would eat them? Not even top city restaurants, and killing cattle was illegal in the Han, punishable by death.

Another main battle group for Xiao Bai in late game
Sky-Light Cloud-Shadow: Mu Yuntian Yi, Mu Ru Ming Guang, Feng Xiang Yun, Ying Ruo Mei (female)
Feng Xiang Yun is an archer, Ying Ruo Mei uses illusions (or formations), the other two are spearmen

Not good, Baili is fine, but the character Xi, as in imperial seal, should not be used casually. Check who in ancient times had it in their name or courtesy—it’s taboo, punishable by death.
But in Sui dynasty, one of the four great generals was Shi Wansui—quite bold, later thought himself immortal, argued with the emperor, and got executed.

Bandits? Actually, pretty easy to kill, with bows and ballista, as I wrote above. If Xiao Bai can make them, haha, shoot as many as come, pity about the horses, then a few arrow showers, basically no drama left, spear showers too.
