Chapter 51: The Handsome Man Is Blind
The little golden monkey was quite clever; after spitting out a mouthful of water, it slipped away in a flash. It leapt and bounded everywhere, its form agile and quick. Lin Xiaodou chased it for ages, yet not a single hair was caught. In the end, she was panting from exhaustion, took a tumble, and lay sprawled on the ground for a long while before getting up.
The young golden monkey spotted her disheveled state and grinned widely, baring its teeth with pure delight. It hopped over, pawed at her hair, and, seeing no reaction, confidently dragged the bunch of bananas at her feet away. Completely unworried, it sat to the side and began to savor its treat. One banana wasn’t enough; it started on a second. Just as it was absorbed in peeling the fruit, a hand moved like lightning and clasped its neck tightly.
“Heh, finally caught you!” Lin Xiaodou’s eyes glinted with a sinister smile.
Startled, the little golden monkey let out a shrill cry. It flailed its limbs, trying to scratch her, but Lin Xiaodou subdued it with a light punch. A large bump immediately rose on its head.
Waa—this woman was terrifying!
Clutching its swollen head, the golden monkey wailed bitterly, its round eyes brimming with tears. It cried while sneaking glances at her, both pitiful and comical.
Lin Xiaodou couldn’t help but laugh: “What’s this? Weren’t you bold when you were teasing me? Are you scared now?”
The little golden monkey pouted, turned its head, and showed her only the back of its head.
Lin Xiaodou raised her eyebrows; the little fellow had quite a temper. She had to admit, the golden monkey before her was truly beautiful: golden, fluffy fur, a cute, petite round face, and large, obsidian-like eyes. Simply standing there, it exuded a silly, playful charm.
Lin Xiaodou reached out and vigorously rubbed its fur.
Wow—it was so soft, so comfortable!
Back in her modern life, she had only ever stroked cat fur. Touching the golden monkey now felt like petting an oversized, plush cat.
The little golden monkey stood there miserably, like a wronged bride, suffering Lin Xiaodou’s relentless kneading. At first, it resisted, but gradually relaxed. This strange human gave it an unprecedented sense of closeness. It really, really liked her!
Just as the atmosphere grew warm—
Suddenly, a voice sounded nearby.
“Chi-chi-chi!” It was Tiao Tiao.
It had been happily munching beef in the space, but suddenly sensed its master’s mood was off. Upon coming out, it saw its beloved owner playing with another animal.
Outrageous! This creature dared to seduce its master while it was gone!
Furious, Tiao Tiao shrieked and bounded straight onto the golden monkey’s face, its miniature, dazzling eyes filled with rage.
Hmph! Dare to steal its master? Time to pay the price!
Tiao Tiao waved its claws, frantically scratching at the golden monkey’s face. The golden monkey felt the itchy assault, swatting at its face, sneezing repeatedly from the torment.
“Enough, Tiao Tiao, stop playing. This is your new companion,” Lin Xiaodou quickly intervened.
Tiao Tiao had awakened intelligence, making it smarter than most animals. Though the golden monkey was much bigger, it might not win a fight against Tiao Tiao.
“Chi-chi-chi!” Tiao Tiao hopped off the monkey’s face and began to complain to Lin Xiaodou. From its agitated gestures, she understood:
“You mean, when I asked you to be my pet, you danced the Subject Three for an hour. For fairness, you want the golden monkey to dance too?”
“Chi-chi-chi!” Tiao Tiao: Exactly!
“All right.” Lin Xiaodou looked at the silly, adorable golden monkey and smiled, “Little one, follow me, and you’ll have endless bananas and peaches every day. Would you like to stay with me?”
Before the golden monkey could nod, Lin Xiaodou scooped it up, saying, “I know you’d like that. Go dance with your big brother now.”
Tiao Tiao, gleefully waving its claws, froze: What? That stinky monkey has to learn to dance—from it?
But since the master called it the boss, teaching the second-in-command wasn’t so bad, right?
And so, the golden monkey, bewildered, began learning to dance. Whenever it grew tired, Lin Xiaodou tossed it bananas. It didn’t really want to dance, but those bananas were simply too delicious. For a bite, it surrendered!
While the two little ones danced, Lin Xiaodou began tidying the wooden cabin. First, she opened all the windows to air out the place.
The once dark and gloomy cabin instantly brightened. Lin Xiaodou finished cleaning the living room, but the dust overhead troubled her.
Just then, the hour-long dance ended. Lin Xiaodou pulled a peach from her pocket, smiling at the golden monkey:
“Little monkey, I have a peach here. If you want it, help me clean the dust and cobwebs from the ceiling.”
The golden monkey, tempted by the fragrant peach, surrendered once more.
As it worked away, suddenly the cabin door was knocked.
“Hello, is anyone inside? I have something to ask.”
Someone, missing their pet’s return, finally came “indirectly” looking for it.
Hearing the master’s voice, the golden monkey was beside itself with excitement, shrieking loudly.
Lin Xiaodou understood its cries. Only then did she realize the little fellow had an owner. No wonder her animal affinity had failed at first.
But now the little one was tamed, had learned the dance for joining her family, and Lin Xiaodou was reluctant to let it go. Especially since—
This little creature had an owner. Did that mean the mysterious shenanigans earlier had been orchestrated by him? What was his purpose?
While Lin Xiaodou pondered, the golden monkey had already run to open the door.
The door swung open, and a tall figure appeared.
The man before her looked to be in his twenties, dressed in a dark blue short shirt and black trousers. His features were refined and striking, with gold-rimmed glasses framing his face. His deep black eyes glimmered with a gentle smile, and his voice was soft as the wind:
“I’ve been searching everywhere for my monkey. Have you seen it?”
Lin Xiaodou glanced at the large, lively monkey beside him, her mouth twitching. Such a big creature—how could he not see it?
Until the golden monkey finally leapt into the man’s arms. The man sighed in relief, “You little rascal, where have you been? I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”
Lin Xiaodou waved her hand before his eyes and realized—there was no focus in them.
What? Such a handsome man was actually blind?
