Volume One, Chapter 57: The Advancing Xiaxia
Su Ningxia didn’t forget to kick Liang Zhiyun in his most vulnerable spot with her foot. Zhang Xiaofen was completely stunned, and by the time she thought to help, Liang Zhiyun was already lying on the ground, wailing in pain. Su Ningxia stomped hard on his lower body, not forgetting to slap him across the face as well.
As for the common folk, their situation was even more difficult, but there was simply nothing to be done about it. Compared to Xuan Yin, who could fell a crowd with a single sword strike, Lu Xun was clearly just going through the motions—though in his world, things looked very different.
The black man in the leather jacket had just taken out the gunman, only to turn and make a hostile gesture at him.
“It’s all right, you came just in time. I didn’t expect we’d have trouble from within,” Wang Linchi replied.
The family found a restaurant bustling with customers and went inside. The layout wasn’t much different from before the apocalypse: a mid-sized establishment with both private rooms and a main dining hall. They chose a table in the hall, wanting to soak in the lively, everyday atmosphere.
“Wei Xiu, let me take you for a meal first. You saved me yesterday, and I haven’t had the chance to thank you. What do you like to eat?” Xie Yu had planned to take Wei Xiu to the company so the professional team could spruce him up, but since Wei Xiu hadn’t eaten yet, food had to come first.
“Your Majesty, you must be joking. I’m truly sorry about what happened today. Why not come up to my club and let me apologize in person?” Xu Jiang offered.
Ethan shook his head and smiled. Pulling a stunt as flashy as that—clearly, Roland wasn’t playing with a full deck.
The acid rain began at two thirty in the morning. Most of the city’s residents were in deep sleep; only the city guards, patrolling in shifts, were awake to notice it and report immediately.
There was no time left—he had to seize these last few moments to steady his breathing, or else he’d run into serious trouble when the time came to hold his breath in a rush.
That was all well and good, but Xiang Wan knew that with Xuanyuan Zhi’s skills and connections, buying a house there would be no trouble at all.
“Bro, what do you think we should do? Smash a rock on its head and knock it out? Don’t worry, my nickname is ‘the Great Sharpshooter Ji Da Kai.’ My aim’s steady. If I say I’ll hit its head, I won’t hit its rump!” Ji Kai declared confidently.
A little distance from the market, Qingqing slipped off the hump of her camel. She knew there shouldn’t be any camels out on the plain at this time, and riding openly into town would attract too much attention. She hid the camel in a thicket, told it to stay put, and went off to find her mother.
Xiang Wan sat still, her gaze fixed on Leng Changlin until he disappeared into the room.
Right now, the giant forest was teeming with first-tier fierce beasts—a perfect opportunity for these people to raise their strength.
Qingqing, holding onto Yin Jiangzi, followed closely behind Shanguang toward the outer courtyard. Li Po, seeing the camel burdened with so many things, assumed it was tired and grabbed some of the bags to carry himself. He smiled, gave the camel a friendly pat, and walked on.
“No! They’ll beat me to death.” The foolish camel actually answered Qingqing, and the servants who heard its voice screamed, “Monster!” and scattered in all directions.
Qiao Yu shook her head. She could tell that while Jing Rui claimed not to care, he actually cared deeply about Liang’s mother.
“This can’t go on! Don’t worry, I’ve been shot before; I have some experience with this sort of thing,” Tian Qianqian said, thinking he didn’t trust her.
At the center of the hall, on either side of Huo Changmen’s seat of honor, sat two burly men in brocade, one of whom was Luo Ji, smiling at the pair before him.
In the municipal space monitoring station, only Li Weigong and Wang Yanke were left, staring at each other in dismay.
“I suspect Master must be seriously injured. He’s not making a move because he doesn’t want us to notice,” Lin Jinxi said gravely.
