Chapter 36: Xia Fan Milk Tea Opens for Business
Yongpan paused, looking bewildered. "What do you mean, 'our turn'?"
"Tutoring," Lin Qianfan said, standing up with an air of unquestionable authority. "Starting today, everyone is to meet in the classroom from eight to ten every night. I’ve mapped out a study plan for you all; we’re going to recover everything you’ve fallen behind on, piece by piece."
"No way," Dawei groaned. "We just finished the software. Can't you let us catch our breath?"
Lin Qianfan shot him a cold look. "You can catch your breath after the college entrance exams. If you don't buckle down now, you’ll be the ones regretting it once the results are out."
The roommates exchanged glances, ultimately realizing they had no choice but to submit.
In classroom 305, Lin Qianfan stood before the chalkboard, a piece of chalk in his hand. "We’ll start with math today, focusing on functions and geometry. These two areas are the heavy hitters of the exam—they carry the most weight, but they are also your weakest points."
He wrote a function problem on the board and turned to face them. "Who wants to try first?"
Yongpan looked down at the board, muttering, "Functions? I forgot all about that stuff ages ago."
"Then relearn it," Lin Qianfan said calmly. "If you don't understand, I’ll explain it once. If you still don't get it, I’ll explain it again until it sticks."
He began to derive the solution step-by-step on the board—from the basic definition of functions to the rules of graphical transformations, down to the logical approach for solving the problem. Everything was crystal clear. When he finished, he pulled several printed practice sheets from his bag and distributed them. "Do these. Mark down your mistakes, and we’ll go over them tomorrow."
His roommates held the practice sheets, looking utterly defeated. "Qianfan, are you sure this is humanly possible? There are so many problems here, we’ll be at it until the end of time."
"Enough talk," Lin Qianfan glanced at him. "These are carefully selected problems. Master these, and you can boost your math score by at least twenty points."
"Twenty points?" Yongpan immediately fell silent.
A week later, the two milk tea shop employees were already proficient in preparing three different types of drinks. Lin Qianfan stood in the shop, watching them work, and nodded with satisfaction. "Good. Your technique is much better than last week, and the flavor is spot on. Next up is the grand opening."
He turned to look at the newly renovated storefront. The walls were painted a fresh mint green, and the tables and chairs had been replaced with a minimalist style. The whole shop looked bright and clean.
"We officially open next Monday. Let’s get the flyers out today and build up some buzz." The two employees nodded and immediately got to work. Watching them, Lin Qianfan felt a slight sense of relief.
Over the weekend, Lin Qianfan brought several gifts to the principal's home. The principal was in the yard pruning flowers; seeing him arrive, he set down his shears and smiled. "Qianfan, just coming over is enough. You didn't have to bring gifts—too polite!"
Lin Qianfan gave an embarrassed smile and handed over the items. The principal didn't refuse, setting them aside before leading him inside. Once they were seated and the principal had poured two cups of tea, he asked, "Qianfan, you're not resting on the weekend—what brings you here?"
"Principal, I have an idea," Lin Qianfan said, straightening up. "I want to post past college entrance exam papers and some study materials on our official account."
The principal raised an eyebrow. "College entrance papers? You kid, what made you think of that?"
"We have a large student user base. With the exams approaching, if we put these materials up, people will definitely find them useful. Plus, it’ll help build some reputation for our school."
The principal pondered for a moment, then nodded. "Fine, I support you on this." He added with a chuckle, "Your mind is certainly sharp. If only you could spend another two years in high school."
Lin Qianfan laughed. "Principal, you're trying to turn me into a permanent resident of high school."
The principal patted his shoulder. "Go ahead. Whatever materials you need, just come to me."
"Thank you, Principal." Lin Qianfan turned to leave, his plan already taking shape.
Back in the dormitory, he pulled out his notebook and, relying on his memories from his previous life, summarized the key points for the college entrance exams. He closed the notebook and headed for classroom 305.
In the classroom, Yongpan was staring blankly at his computer screen, which showed a completely empty document.
"Qianfan, you're back."
"Yeah, I have something to tell you all." Lin Qianfan threw his bag onto a chair, pulled out his notebook, and opened it to the pages he had just written. "The college entrance exams are coming up. Our account just launched its software, right? Let’s add a new feature: a College Entrance Exam Resource Special."
"A resource special?" Yongpan frowned, clearly not quite grasping the idea.
"Right. I’ve compiled the core knowledge points for the exam into shorthand notes. We’ll upload them to the software. At this stage, study efficiency is critical for high school seniors, and this will save them time. It will also help keep our app active."
Dawei frowned. "But organizing all these key points is a huge hassle, isn't it? Where would we find the time?"
Lin Qianfan placed his notebook on the table and flipped to a page. "I’ve already compiled most of the key points. I just need to add a few more things over the next few days, and it’ll be done quickly."
Yongpan glanced at the notebook and couldn't help but ask, "Where did you get all this? This content looks even more concise than what the teachers explain."
"Don't worry about where it came from; just know that it works." Lin Qianfan handed the notebook over. "Help me enter this into the computer. I’ll organize it into modules and add some final content. We should have the first draft ready by tonight."
Yongpan and Dawei exchanged looks. Though they were puzzled, they picked up their computers and began to type.
...
On Monday morning, Lin Qianfan uploaded the completed shorthand notes for the college entrance exam to the "Learning Zone" of the app. He made a point of using a catchy headline: "College Entrance Exam Shorthand Now Live! Master the Key Points with One Click!"
Shortly after the article went live, the background traffic began to climb rapidly.
"Wow, these knowledge points are organized so clearly!"
"This table for translating literary Chinese is incredible—a total lifesaver!"
"I finally understand the math function formulas! If I’d known about this sooner, I wouldn't have lost so much hair in my junior year!"
The comment section was buzzing, with almost every message praising the practicality of the content.
Yongpan looked at the data in the background and tapped Lin Qianfan on the shoulder with a grin. "Qianfan, your strategy is genius. With so many students using our materials, we won't have to worry about traffic anymore."
"Traffic is just the beginning," Lin Qianfan said, staring at the screen, his tone calm. "Once users get used to this feature, we can do so much more."
In the afternoon, the milk tea shop officially opened. Lin Qianfan stood at the entrance and looked at the sign that had just been hung. The four characters for "Xiafan Milk Tea" stood out prominently in the sunlight.
Yongpan stood beside him, his tone laced with teasing. "This name wouldn't happen to have anything to do with Xia Ruo, would it?"
"Enough talk."
Lin Qianfan couldn't be bothered to respond. He turned to the two employees and said, "Set up a tasting station at the entrance to attract some people to try it out."
