Chapter 13: Level C Strange Phenomenon
“So, there is only one possibility—something else must have intercepted the other anomalies.”
Xie Yunxuan said this as she glanced toward the full-length mirror in the office, then slowly approached it.
She had always felt that there was something unusual about this mirror.
Outside the door, the anomaly, frustrated that its methods failed to lure Xie Yunxuan out of the office, seethed with humiliation. Despite being a Class C fierce anomaly, it had been thoroughly outwitted by a D-class anomaly hiding inside the office.
Xie Yunxuan did not lower her voice, so the red-dressed fierce anomaly outside, as well as the yin-yang anomaly, could hear everything. By the end, the red-dressed fierce anomaly’s hair stood on end with anger.
It began furiously stirring the thick black mist around it. Clad in red, the fierce anomaly crushed the puppet in its hands and slammed it heavily onto the hallway floor.
As the first anomaly in the dungeon to successfully advance to Class C, it was somewhat of a minor boss.
Yet, it had been completely outmaneuvered by a D-class anomaly—a severe humiliation indeed.
If other anomalies were to hear about this, they would surely mock it for a long time behind its back.
Most aggravating of all, the anomaly it despised most was the doctor.
Those detestable doctors deserved to die!
In its fury, the red-dressed fierce anomaly unleashed a violent assault on everything in the hallway.
Had Xie Yunxuan opened the door, she would have seen the area nearby reduced to the devastation of a battlefield.
Fortunately, the hospital’s soundproofing was excellent, so neither Xie Yunxuan nor System 368 heard a sound.
After its rage subsided, the red-dressed fierce anomaly retracted its hair—which had grown wildly and occupied half the hallway.
Knowing Xie Yunxuan would not come out, before leaving, it cast a resentful glare at the office door.
The next time it encountered this doctor inside, it would not let the anomaly who had toyed with it off so easily.
It vowed to devour this doctor piece by piece.
With this thought easing its mind, the red-dressed fierce anomaly’s mood improved just a little as it went downstairs.
Though originally in its thirties, after anomaly transformation, its appearance reverted to that of a 25-year-old.
Its skin was pale to the point of illness; its features deep and handsome; and the white coat it wore added an aura of intellectual charm.
But that was only under normal human circumstances—now it was an anomaly.
Seeing Xie Yunxuan wearing a bloodstained white coat, smiling in the dimly lit room while gazing at her reflection, System 368 found it all rather strange.
It clearly remembered its host was a psychiatrist, yet the more it looked, the more she resembled a lunatic.
Still, she did look quite good!
Xie Yunxuan paid no mind to System 368’s thoughts and continued speaking.
“But I don’t know what this thing is. Whoever it is, their strength must be considerable to single-handedly hold back so many anomalies.”
“I wasn’t sure either,” Xie Yunxuan said, turning her gaze toward the door. Her senses detected that the anomaly was gone.
System 368 glanced as well, confirming it was no longer present.
With the danger finally gone, System 368’s taut nerves relaxed.
“But just as I was about to return to the office, a task suddenly arrived in the hospital—delaying me.”
This task confirmed to Xie Yunxuan that there was a powerful figure among the patient anomalies.
This formidable presence might even be targeting her specifically.
It seemed that even as a special player, the dungeon game harbored ill intent towards her.
But could they really outwit her?
After receiving the anomaly tokens passed over by Zhang Yurou and Chen Wanchong, Xie Yunxuan, careful with her timing, made no hesitation and headed straight for the stairs.
Out of sight of Zhang Yurou and Chen Wanchong, Xie Yunxuan transformed into her corpse anomaly form and sprinted desperately toward the third-floor office.
Just as she reached for her office door handle, she sensed her decoy puppet, left behind to confuse others, shatter.
Previously, she had asked System 368 about the cost of a decoy puppet—it was only about 20 anomaly tokens.
But this outing had earned her a large amount of fear points, plenty of anomaly tokens, and even a director position.
She had not only profited but made a big gain.
Although that position would only be officially hers after completing certain tasks, it was effectively hers already.
System 368 recalled the afterimage Xie Yunxuan had left while running down the hallway and realized its host had truly been running for her life.
Feeling guilty for its earlier rash decision, System 368 shyly glanced at Xie Yunxuan.
“Sorry, host.”
“I was too greedy; this time I nearly put us both in danger.”
“It’s my fault. Boohoo~”
It truly couldn’t compare to those experienced systems.
It was so useless~
Hearing this, Xie Yunxuan smiled and glanced at System 368, then suddenly punched the full-length mirror, shattering it.
System 368 immediately stopped its sobbing upon seeing this.
It stared in shock as Xie Yunxuan kicked the broken mirror again.
System 368 thought: Does my host dislike me so much that she’s punching the mirror out of anger?
“Still crying?” Xie Yunxuan teased.
System 368 instantly covered its mouth with its tentacles, then shook its head with teary eyes.
Seeing System 368’s reaction, Xie Yunxuan knew it had misunderstood her.
The next moment, she put on a gentle smile.
Having been a psychiatrist for so long, Xie Yunxuan was adept at comforting others.
“I’m not angry with you. The reason I broke this mirror is because...”
“This mirror isn’t ordinary; it’s a... surveillance device.”
After saying this, she grabbed a broom and swept the broken glass into a corner.
System 368 approached and scanned the shards.
Seeing Xie Yunxuan look at it, System 368 projected the scan results before her.
Name: One-Way Anomaly Mirror (Split Screen)
Functions:
1. Clearly reflects your beauty, so you won’t feel anxious.
2. Mirror surveillance device, allowing you to observe every movement of the monitored target comprehensively and clearly.
After Xie Yunxuan finished reading, System 368 retracted the projection.
There was a long silence.
Once System 368’s emotions stabilized, Xie Yunxuan continued to comfort it.
Without internal turmoil, she could fully focus on leveling up in the horror game.
Therefore, the system was very important to her.
Thinking of this, her tone grew even gentler.
“You’re just a small system; you can’t control the main system’s decisions.”
“I’m not the type to blame my partners for my faults.”
“If I want to rise higher, I need your help! You’re very important to me!”
Hearing these words of reassurance, System 368’s eyes sparkled brightly.
“Really? Host?”
Was it truly that excellent?
