Chapter 24: She Was Wrong
Feng Ye’s gaze followed her movements as she raised a finger to touch the snake plant.
In the next moment, the once withered and yellowing snake plant instantly regained its vibrant green hue and wildly sprouted an additional twenty centimeters right before his eyes.
Witnessing this, Feng Ye abruptly stood up, joy lighting his face as he turned to Ying Shu. “You’re also a superpowered individual? A plant-type, perhaps?”
Ying Shu replied, “First, thank you for helping me secure custody of Xixi.”
Now that she possessed supernatural abilities, it was impossible to keep them hidden forever. It was far better to use them openly, making life easier.
Feng Ye, smart enough to understand why she revealed her powers to him, smiled. “I thought you were an easy-to-handle young lady, but it seems I was mistaken. Ying Shu, would you consider joining us?”
Ying Shu was not interested in the Special Investigation Bureau at the moment. “Let’s talk about the pills instead.”
She shared Cheng Shan’s request with Feng Ye.
Feng Ye readily agreed, “We’ve been secretly protecting Jiang Yu and the others; otherwise, we wouldn’t have known so quickly that Jiang Yu had recovered.”
Ying Shu took out a healing pill. “My brother and sister took the marrow-cleansing pill, but Jiang Yu took the healing pill — that’s the one I’m holding now. So I can’t be sure whether the marrow-cleansing pill they took actually worked.”
“Marrow-cleansing pill?”
Feng Ye’s eyes lit up. “Is that the legendary pill said to completely transform a person’s body and spirit?”
“Exactly.”
“That pill can sell for a hundred million in the supernatural market — and that’s the price for the lowest grade. The highest grade is worth even more, likely exceeding a billion.”
Ying Shu’s eyes widened.
A hundred million? Or even more?
That meant her family had consumed pills worth billions.
She clutched her chest—
But strangely, it didn’t hurt that much. After all, no amount of money could buy good health.
Besides, she still had several marrow-cleansing pills in her treasure chest; converting them to cash would be easy.
Feng Ye solemnly accepted the healing pill after retrieving a special container. “Ying Shu, on behalf of the entire nation, I thank you and the person who provided the medicine.”
“I’m just responsible for handing over the pills. It’s not as grand as you imagine, so there’s no need to thank me.”
Ying Shu, having just relinquished a healing pill, felt unworthy of such gratitude. In her heart, family came first, and she needed the healing pill to save her brother and sister’s lives. She couldn’t be blamed for being selfish.
*Ding—*
*Congratulations on completing the mission. You have earned 200 points and 200 merit points. Employees are eligible for lottery upgrades.*
This was the reward for delivering medicine to Jiang Yu and the others.
*Ding—*
*Submitting a healing pill to the state advances national medical research. Reward: 2000 points and 2000 merit points. Employees are eligible for lottery upgrades.*
Huh? There was a reward for that too?
While Feng Ye delivered the healing pill for research, Ying Shu checked her phone for messages.
Name: Ying Shu
Age: 22
Merit: 17,900
Points: 20,200
Level: 1 — (Upgrade available)
Skills: Clairvoyant Eye (Level 2) — (Upgrade available), Eight Trigrams Ear (Level 2) — (Upgrade available), Wood Element (Level 2) — (Upgrade available), Space Element — (Upgrade available), Spirit Element (Level 3) — (Upgrade available)
She could level up!
She had only reached level one and was mistaken for a cultivator in the Qi Refining stage. What if she reached level two? Could she ascend an even greater realm?
Without hesitation, Ying Shu tapped upgrade.
*Ding—*
*Congratulations on reaching Level 2.*
Ying Shu’s eyes widened as 10,000 merit points were deducted.
Upgrading just one level cost 10,000 merit points? Ten thousand!
That was enough for several powered individuals to level up.
She sobbed inwardly, regretting having dismissed the earlier upgrade reward she’d received. If she could win more upgrade rewards in future lotteries, she would save a fortune in merit points.
With only 7,900 merit points left, which skill should she upgrade?
Spirit Element? But it was already level three, and the last upgrade had cost 3,000 merit points. The next upgrade would cost even more, probably leaving only enough merit for Space Element, which she couldn’t use yet. And she had no idea when she’d earn more merit points again.
After much deliberation, Ying Shu decided to upgrade Clairvoyant Eye and Wood Element.
Wood Element was obvious—it could heal wounds and protect her.
Clairvoyant Eye was to see ghosts.
Since learning that ghosts existed in this world, she hadn’t seen a single one. How else could she assist Cheng Shan in his investigations?
Of course, she wasn’t certain that upgrading Clairvoyant Eye would allow her to see ghosts, but it was worth a try.
Ying Shu clicked upgrade.
*Ding—*
*Congratulations! Clairvoyant Eye has reached Level 3 and successfully evolved into the Eye of the Celestial Master.*
Suddenly, a head appeared to her right side, startling her so much she jumped up.
“Damn it—”
