“If you’re not in a hurry, why not sit down for a cup of tea and pick out some incense for the ancestral offerings?”

With customers arriving, Ying Shu naturally would not turn them away.

She led them to the guest tea table to sit, then brought Xixi to the counter to watch cartoons, before boiling water and preparing tea to serve them.

“The last time we met, you asked me, ‘Are you also a friend of Cheng Shan?’ So does that mean you’re friends with Cheng Shan as well? Are you doctors too?”

Just as Feng Ye was about to answer yes, his phone rang. He apologized and stepped outside to take the call.

Within fifteen seconds, he returned, breaking into a broad smile and asked, “Where were we?”

Ying Shu replied, “I asked if you were friends with Cheng Shan.”

Feng Ye said, “No, we’re not.”

Seeing that he was truthful, Ying Shu raised her brow in surprise.

Wu Ling’s eyes also flickered with astonishment and doubt.

[Weren’t they supposed to be friends with Cheng Shan? Why is their answer different from what was agreed upon?]

“Ying Shu, to be honest with you, we’re from the National Special Investigation Bureau’s paranormal division. The reason you saw us at Cheng Shan’s home that day is because we discovered Cheng Shan’s death was not an accident—someone wanted to harm him.”

Wu Ling: “!!!!”

[Did Director Feng suddenly lose his mind? How could he reveal the Bureau’s secrets to civilians?]

Ying Shu, seeing Feng Ye was honest, asked, “The National Special Investigation Bureau? A government agency? The country has such a department? Why have I never heard of it?”

Feng Ye explained, “The Special Investigation Bureau is a national organization responsible for handling matters that science cannot explain, such as ghosts and demons. Therefore, without permission, its existence cannot be disclosed to the public.”

“Ghosts and demons? Are there really such creatures in our world?”

Ying Shu looked at Feng Ye in astonishment. Then, considering her own extraordinary abilities and that plants possess their own consciousness, it wouldn’t be surprising if ghosts existed.

“Exactly.”

Feng Ye’s smile vanished, and he spoke solemnly: “Cheng Shan was killed by a malevolent spirit.”

“Killed by a malevolent spirit?”

Ying Shu recalled how, when she told Cheng Shan his death was an accident, he reacted strongly but did not reveal the truth because the time wasn’t right.

It seemed Cheng Shan knew he had been killed by a malevolent spirit but chose not to tell her, knowing she was just an ordinary person and wouldn’t want her to be scared.

“Cheng Shan had a car accident because he was attacked by a malevolent spirit. At that time, members of our division happened to be passing by and caught the spirit at the scene—otherwise, it would have been mistaken for an ordinary accident. However, the spirit lost its sanity before being captured, so we suspect someone controlled it to kill Cheng Shan. That’s why we investigated Cheng Shan’s enemies at his family’s place, but unfortunately, we found no clues.”

Ying Shu asked, “If the Special Investigation Bureau’s existence must be kept secret from ordinary people, why are you telling me this now? Are you hoping I will help find the real culprit who killed Cheng Shan?”

“We’re telling you because we don’t think you’re an ordinary person. Ordinary people couldn’t have helped Jiang Yu recover from being a patient with ALS to normal in just a few days. No science can achieve that, and there’s no medicine that can instantly cure ALS. So we suspect the pill you gave Jiang Yu isn’t ordinary—it’s made from special medicinal herbs by someone with extraordinary abilities. But after secretly investigating you, we found no evidence you’ve contacted any special individuals. We’re curious about the origin of the pill, or if you could sell us one. We want to use it to develop more medicines to save other ALS patients.”

Wu Ling suddenly stood up and saluted at a ninety-degree angle: “Please sell us a pill. We promise to develop more medicines to save ALS patients.”

“Don’t be like that,” Ying Shu hurriedly helped him sit back down. “It’s not that I won’t sell to you—it’s that I don’t have any pills. If I had pills, my family wouldn’t have three patients.”

Feng Ye was puzzled: “If you don’t have the pills, why did you give one to Jiang Yu?”

“Someone commissioned me to give it to her. The payment was two pills.”

Ying Shu could not tell them the truth.

Feng Ye quickly asked, “After completing the task, did that person give you the pills?”

“Yes, I gave them to my younger brother and sister. So far, we can only see surface effects—they look like normal people now, but whether they’re fully cured is unknown. Tomorrow or the day after, I’ll take them for medical tests.”

Feng Ye asked, “Our Bureau has the best medical institution in the country. Would you like to take them for a checkup there?”

Ying Shu was tempted, but she wasn’t close to Feng Ye and the others and couldn’t fully trust them.

Sensing her hesitation, Feng Ye changed the subject: “You said someone commissioned you to give the pill to Jiang Yu. Do you know who that person is? Do you have their contact information?”

[I remember Cheng Shan had someone make medicine for Jiang Yu, but after investigation, the person was ordinary and couldn’t have made such a good pill.]

Ying Yu looked apologetic: “Sorry, I can’t say, but I can ask if he’s willing to sell pills to you.”

“That would be great.”

Feng Ye took out his phone: “Can we exchange contact info?”

Ying Shu nodded.

After adding the other’s number, Feng Ye pulled a confidentiality agreement from his bag and placed it before Ying Shu: “You must keep the National Special Investigation Bureau’s existence confidential. Revealing our matters to others will have consequences.”

Ying Shu understood and, after confirming the agreement had no issues, pressed her fingerprint.

“Do you always carry confidentiality agreements with you?”

“Yes. In emergencies, we require the other party to sign it, and if necessary, erase their memories.”

Curious, Ying Shu casually asked, “How do you erase memories?”

“Through hypnosis.”

“Hypnosis can be that powerful? I always thought hypnotist therapy was a scam.”

Feng Ye chuckled: “Therapists don’t have that kind of power. I mean hypnotic abilities—an extraordinary power.”

Ying Shu: “...”

So this world really does have supernatural powers!

Feng Ye couldn’t say more. After picking out a large box of incense and paper money in the shop, he left with Wu Ling.

Once in the car, Wu Ling asked, “Brother Feng, why did you tell an ordinary person about the National Special Investigation Bureau?”

Feng Ye said, “That was a call from Boss Bei. He told me to say it.”

Wu Ling’s eyes lit up: “Boss Bei contacted you? Does that mean I might get to meet him?”

Bei Ce was his idol, but after years in the Bureau, he had never seen him in person.

“He’s always elusive, no one knows where he is. I can’t promise when you’ll meet him, but rest assured, as long as you’re in the Bureau, you will get to see him someday.”

Feng Ye patted his shoulder and drove off.

Watching them leave, Ying Shu immediately messaged Cheng Shan, telling him everything in detail.

But after waiting for hours, there was no reply.

This had never happened before.

“Could it be that after I completed the task, the connection between our worlds was severed?”

Or was he training or busy with something else?

She hoped he wasn’t in seclusion for hundreds of years, or she wouldn’t have a chance to request another pill.

Just as she was about to fall asleep thinking about this, her phone suddenly sounded an alarm.

[Alert—Alert—]

[Cheng Shan is in danger. Should staff go to rescue him?]
