Chapter 51: Their Wedding, and You Are on the Guest List
Wen Ying had no interest in knowing about Lu Jinchuan and Su Nian’s daily romance. Yet, after three years of marriage, even though she had given up, it wasn’t as if she felt nothing. Especially since Lu Jinchuan accompanied Su Nian in fulfilling many things she had once dreamed of but never received. A mocking curl tugged at the corner of Wen Ying’s lips. Her chest felt heavy and oppressive, and even the abdominal pain that hadn’t flared up in days began to ache again. She put down her phone, clutching her lower abdomen as she leaned over the table to ease the discomfort, her thin shoulders trembling noticeably, the bones almost visible beneath the skin. After a few minutes, she staggered to her bag to find a bottle of medicine and took some pills. By then, she was drenched in cold sweat from the pain.
With no strength left to continue working, Wen Ying replied to He Xicheng, “Maybe you’re even on the invitation list for their wedding.”
He Xicheng responded, “...I might as well go watch a circus monkey show.”
Wen Ying took another painkiller and curled up to sleep.
Recently, Feixi had signed several project contracts, and Wen Ying had become the third-largest shareholder, naturally earning a substantial dividend. Yet Wen Ying felt uneasy accepting such a large sum since she had only recently joined the company and the project plans led by her team were still being formulated. He Xicheng said, “Back when U.N2 was developed, everyone outside thought it was my research. Because of that reputation, Feixi gained many partners drawn by U.N2. Half of Feixi’s success today is thanks to you.” Wen Ying no longer refused.
For the New Year’s Eve, Feixi decided to take a day off for team-building.
Shen Jiaxiao, an experienced party enthusiast, was in charge of planning the event and chose the most renowned luxury resort in Jing City, a place combining leisure and entertainment with every facility imaginable. Wen Ying hadn’t planned on attending, feeling her energy couldn’t keep up with theirs. But after Shen Jiaxiao’s persistent coaxing, she agreed. Wen Ying didn’t join the hiking group; instead, she stayed at the resort hotel working on drone data. She deliberately chose a coffee shop and stayed there for two hours.
Huo Fuyi, passing by on her way to the hot springs, spotted Wen Ying and ran over excitedly. “Sister Wen Ying! You’re here too!”
Wen Ying looked up. “Yes, the company’s here for team-building.”
Huo Fuyi plopped down beside her, eyes sparkling as she looked at her. “I was hesitating about how to invite you out for dinner. What a coincidence to meet you today. How about dinner together tonight?”
Wen Ying thought for a moment. “My colleagues might come too. Would that bother you?”
Huo Fuyi shook her head with a bright smile. “Not at all. The more, the merrier!”
Then she glanced at Wen Ying’s laptop screen and gasped, mouth agape. “Sister, is that a structural design for a drone?”
On Wen Ying’s screen were the basic graphics from their recent meetings, filled with complex data that Huo Fuyi couldn’t understand, but she could tell it was very professional!
“Do you really like drones?” Wen Ying asked.
Huo Fuyi sheepishly scratched her head. “I mainly play with recreational drones. Although I love them, I don’t know much about them.”
Wen Ying smiled faintly. “What aspects interest you? We can talk about it.”
Admiration shone in Huo Fuyi’s eyes. She understood Wen Ying’s calm and gentle tone was an unspoken offer to teach her something. Wen Ying didn’t mind at all; she explained everything in simple terms, satisfying the curious girl’s questions.
Several times, Huo Fuyi found herself unable to look away from Wen Ying’s serene, exquisitely delicate profile. She was irresistibly drawn to her—seemingly distant, yet warm and tolerant in company, with a charming, gentle manner of speech.
Unnoticed, over an hour passed. When Huo Jinran came over, he found this harmonious scene before him.
He was stunned, his gaze lingering on Wen Ying’s softly smiling face as she spoke to Huo Fuyi.
Only then did he suddenly realize—how had he never noticed before?
Wen Ying was truly beautiful…
