Chapter 5: Calling Her Sister-in-Law
After finishing her work, Wen Ying received a call from Zhao Ke. She relayed Lu Jinchuan’s message once again.
Wen Ying immediately understood Lu Jinchuan’s intention.
Su Nian’s relationship with him was indeed an affair within the marriage, and Su Nian had truly confirmed her status as the other woman.
He wanted her to handle this matter as a precaution. If anyone later dug up past grievances, having her—the legitimate wife—personally “clarify” the situation would mean Su Nian would no longer be considered a homewrecker, sparing her from suspicion and blame.
Lu Jinchuan had truly exhausted every effort for Su Nian’s sake.
As for Lu Jinchuan’s remark about “weighing the situation,” it was simply a warning: if she refused to deal with it, no company would dare to accept her once she left Lansheng. He could cut off her means of survival.
For three years, she had devoted herself wholeheartedly to being a good wife. From the day she married him, she had resolutely severed all ties with her past, yet she had not received even a shred of genuine affection in return.
She was tired.
Wen Ying smirked coldly, saying lightly, “I’ll take sick leave. If you insist I handle this while unwell, that violates labor law. We can settle this in court.”
She had already divorced and resigned, so she no longer cared whether Lu Jinchuan was pleased or not.
After work, as Wen Ying got into her car, she received a WeChat message from her father, Zhou Mingkang: [Your brother has been released from prison. The family is holding a banquet. Are you coming back?]
Though it was posed as a question, Wen Ying knew Zhou Mingkang did not want this “rebellious daughter” to return and cause trouble.
Back then, her relationship with Zhou Yu was considered a disgrace by Zhou Mingkang. He thought she was immoral and, if not for her value in marrying into the prestigious Lu family, he would have severed ties long ago, banishing her from the family forever.
Yet that man was Zhou Yu, once the most important person in her life.
After careful consideration, Wen Ying touched up her makeup to look more lively and drove straight to the Zhou family villa.
If it weren’t for Zhou Yu, she would have no contact with the Zhou family.
Upon seeing her, a servant’s expression flickered oddly, frowning. “Miss Wen, what are you doing here?”
Wen Ying didn’t respond. From years ago, this place had ceased to be her home; even the servants looked down on and resented her.
“Wen Ying?” Zhou Luoyi came down from upstairs. Seeing Wen Ying, she scolded coldly, “You’re really shameless. My brother just got back, and you’re already clinging to him, hoping everyone sees you and feels uncomfortable. Does that make you happy?”
Zhou Luoyi was the illegitimate daughter born from her father’s affair during his marriage, sharing the same birthday as Wen Ying. Now, she arrogantly mocked Wen Ying as the legitimate heiress.
“If you’re so sensitive, why don’t you move out of my mother’s house and show me how noble you really are?” Wen Ying retorted calmly.
This house was earned by her mother’s outstanding achievements.
Zhou Mingkang, along with He Zhili and Zhou Luoyi, lived comfortably here, and Zhou Luoyi enjoyed everything left by her mother. What right did she have to be so haughty?
“You—”
Zhou Luoyi’s face darkened for a moment, then with a look of anticipation for a scandal, she sneered, “Let’s see if you can keep smiling later.”
“Who’s this?”
A curious female voice interrupted their verbal sparring.
Hearing the noise from the living room, two figures walked out closely entwined. Jiang Qian, seeing Wen Ying, instinctively tugged at Zhou Yu’s clothes. “She’s so pretty.”
Zhou Yu glanced at Wen Ying, then his gaze fixed firmly on his girlfriend’s face as he unabashedly pinched her waist. “She’s my sister, just like Luoyi.”
“Are you jealous of your sister?”
Jiang Qian blushed, punching the man’s chest before turning to Wen Ying. “So, Yu has two sisters? What’s your name?”
Wen Ying looked bewildered at the scene, truly not expecting Zhou Yu to bring his girlfriend home.
Meeting the family showed how serious Zhou Yu was.
The Zhou Yu who once wanted to marry her and give up everything for her was gone.
Now, he treated her and Zhou Luoyi the same.
Her throat felt dry and sore as she said, “Wen Ying.”
Jiang Qian was surprised, her expression thoughtful, then asked a question that made both Wen Ying and the Zhou family uncomfortable: “Why don’t you have the surname Zhou?”
Seeing Wen Ying remain silent, Jiang Qian smiled confidently. “I’m Jiang Qian. You can call me—”
“Sister-in-law.”
Zhou Yu cut in slowly, finally looking Wen Ying squarely in the eye. “I’ve found a woman I want to take seriously. You should call me brother-in-law.”
