Chapter 41: In the Marital Bed, She Would Call His Name Softly

Lu Jinchuan’s eyes held a faintly mocking glint. His tone was perfectly normal, yet there was something about it that made Wen Ying uncomfortable.
Heat suddenly rushed to Wen Ying’s cheeks.
Not for any other reason.
In the past, in order to make Lu Jinchuan grow accustomed to her and take her seriously as his wife, she had forced down her embarrassment and called him “husband.” Almost every sentence she spoke began with that word.
Even during their marital intimacy, she would call him softly and tenderly.
Though—
Lu Jinchuan had hardly ever responded to her.
So now that he had pointed it out so bluntly, she felt somewhat humiliated.
Seeing the change in Wen Ying’s expression, Lu Jinchuan suddenly felt it was exactly as he had expected. She was still the same Wen Ying.
No matter how calm she appeared, she would always reveal the cracks in her forced composure.
He gave a quiet scoff, turned around, and showed no intention of continuing the conversation.
Yet Wen Ying found his attitude deeply unpleasant.
She was about to say that they would be divorced soon anyway when the elevator doors opened.
Without looking back, Lu Jinchuan stepped into the elevator.
Wen Ying did not even have the chance to speak.
Once they were in the car, Shen Jiaxiao was still fuming at full volume. “If this project hadn’t been finalized last month, I would have torn off that woman’s fig leaf myself! Spreading her legs and acting like a mistress as though it were some kind of honor!”
Lu Jinchuan owned numerous companies spanning a wide range of industries. The manufacturing company under his name was also among the best in the field. Feixi had previously worked with Tengyang several times on drone manufacturing contracts, and both sides had been quite pleased with the cooperation.

But things were different now!
Tengyang had actually become Su Nian’s place to gild her résumé!
Wen Ying rubbed her temples and calmly reassured Shen Jiaxiao. “I’m fine. We’ll inevitably run into each other in business from now on. Feixi ultimately doesn’t have Blue Prosperity’s influence or power, so antagonizing them wouldn’t be wise.”
If she truly embarrassed Su Nian,
Lu Jinchuan might well make things difficult for Feixi.
After all, he protected Su Nian fiercely.
And no one knew how long Wen Ying’s health would hold out. She did not want Feixi to be affected because of her.
Shen Jiaxiao was furious yet heartbroken for her. “They’re all idiots! Once your confidentiality agreement expires, let’s see if that little bitch can still laugh! She really thinks she’s so impressive? Does she not understand that there’s always someone better? And Lu Jinchuan is a twenty-four-karat, pure-bred blind bastard!”
As she spoke, she handed her phone to Wen Ying. “Look, I posted your photo on my social feed, and the comments have exploded. Everyone’s asking whether you’re single and telling me to introduce them to you. See if there’s anyone you like. Let your career and your love life flourish at the same time! Let Lu Jinchuan regret it!”
Wen Ying’s beauty was beyond dispute. It was only because she was reserved and understated, never drawing attention to herself, that she seemed to have little presence.
But once people noticed Wen Ying, no one could help being drawn to her.
Wen Ying merely curved her lips faintly. “He won’t care, and I don’t have the energy for it either. Making sure the project is finalized this morning is my priority.”
Whether her illness could be completely cured remained unknown.
She only wanted to devote her time and her life to things that truly mattered.
That afternoon,
Wen Ying returned home, baked some small pastries, and took them with her to the sanatorium.
It was time to pay her uncle’s fees again.

Wen Yiliang was in fairly good spirits that day. Seeing Wen Ying, he smiled warmly. “The weather’s so cold. Why did you come all the way here?”
Wen Ying walked over and took his hand. “I missed you. I was afraid you’d be lonely here by yourself.”
“Then you’re underestimating me. I’m very popular. Lots of parents bring their hospitalized children to me for tutoring. I’m terribly busy, so stop worrying unnecessarily.”
Wen Ying could not help laughing. “Yes, yes, Professor Wen is the best. In that case, it seems you don’t need me.”
Wen Yiliang placed a peeled tangerine in Wen Ying’s hands. “Taking good care of yourself is more important than anything else. Lu Jinchuan hasn’t accompanied you here in quite a while, has he?”
Wen Ying’s smile faded slightly.
Indeed.
Especially after Su Nian appeared.
Lu Jinchuan’s entire focus had shifted to Su Nian. He simply had no time to pay attention to Wen Ying or her family.
Wen Yiliang noticed that something was wrong. In the past, whenever Wen Ying visited, she would chat with him about Lu Jinchuan and the Lu family. She had always looked forward to building a good life and had been optimistic and full of hope each time. But this time, that brightness was gone…
Without drawing attention to it, he changed the subject. “You brought so many biscuits again. Two boxes are enough. Take these two home. Doesn’t your sister-in-law like them?”
Wen Ying did not respond.
After spending more than an hour with Wen Yiliang, Wen Ying carried the two boxes of biscuits and walked out through the sanatorium’s park.
Her mind had wandered elsewhere.
When she came back to herself, a drone had suddenly appeared suspended before her. Its propellers buzzed loudly as it swayed from side to side and hurtled toward her.
