Huo Jinran said nothing.
Yet he somewhat agreed with what Cheng Mu had implied.
Cheng Mu looked at Lu Jinchuan and said with certainty, “I think Wen Ying is simply trying to compete with Su Nian. Su Nian takes an interest in drones, so she pretends to be interested in them too. Su Nian takes an interest in He Xicheng, so she joins Feixi Aviation. Her real intention is to get your attention!”
When it came to the little games women played, Cheng Mu was quite perceptive.
A woman who failed to receive love would become both difficult and dramatic.
Lu Jinchuan said nothing. His phone began to ring. It was his grandmother. He rose and walked outside.
“You’re still awake this late?” the old woman asked with a cold snort.
“What about you? Didn’t you stay with Yingying?”
Lu Jinchuan pressed a hand to his forehead. “I’ve been busy with work.”
“Don’t give me that! Do you think I haven’t heard the rumors? Who have you been getting close to lately? Are you behaving yourself?” The old woman was furious.
Lu Jinchuan raised his eyes. “Who told you that?”
“So there really is someone?” His grandmother let out several distressed cries. “Lu Jinchuan! Yingying is such a wonderful girl. If you betray her, aren’t you afraid heaven will strike you down?”
Lu Jinchuan replied indifferently, “Is it really that serious?”
His perfunctory attitude only made the old woman angrier. “If you don’t want to anger me to death, bring Yingying home tomorrow! This is an order, not a discussion!”
The old woman hung up in a huff.
Lu Jinchuan stood there for a while with one hand in his pocket. He opened his WeChat conversation with Wen Ying, then exited it and called her directly instead.
It was already eleven o’clock.
Wen Ying had only just fallen asleep when the ringing woke her.
Her sleep schedule had always been regular, and she rarely stayed up late. Lu Jinchuan knew that.

Still, Wen Ying had always had a mild temper. No matter what he wanted or when he wanted it, she never grew angry or refused him.
Even when she occasionally felt unhappy, she would digest it on her own, then continue trying to please him and acting sweetly.
He never had to spend much effort on her.
When Wen Ying answered, she frowned and asked, “Is something wrong?”
Lu Jinchuan’s voice was deep and calm, without the slightest fluctuation. “Come back to the old residence with me tomorrow. Are you free?”
Wen Ying became a little more alert.
Go back to the old residence? Was he planning to tell his grandmother about their divorce?
She barely hesitated. “I am.”
“Do you need me to pick you up?”
“No, I’ll drive myself.”
Beep. Beep. Beep—
The other end hung up without the slightest hesitation.
It was as though he had known she would answer that way and did not want to spend even one unnecessary second speaking with her, as if he were afraid she might cling to him.
Wen Ying no longer cared about such details.
Once everything was explained clearly to Grandmother, many troublesome matters would be settled as well.
The following evening,
Wen Ying finished up the work at hand and drove to the Lu family’s old residence.
When she arrived, Lu Jinchuan had still not returned. The moment his grandmother saw her, she rose and took Wen Ying’s hand.
“Why have you lost so much weight? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”

Wen Ying gently squeezed the old woman’s hand and smiled warmly. “I’ve just been busy with work. It’s nothing serious.”
Her grandmother was still worried. “Grandmother will arrange for an old traditional physician to examine you. Then we’ll nourish your health properly!”
Wen Ying merely smiled. “You don’t need to worry. I’ll take good care of myself.”
“It’s all that useless Jinchuan’s fault! He has no thoughtfulness at all and doesn’t know how to look after you properly. Just look at you. He still hasn’t come home, and who knows what he’s busy with!” His grandmother was exasperated by his failure to live up to her expectations.
Wen Ying only smiled without replying.
There was no question of being thoughtful or not.
When facing the person one loved, such things came naturally.
No one had ever needed to teach him how to treat Su Nian well.
He was probably with Su Nian even now.
Lu Jinchuan’s mother, Lou Xu, came downstairs. When she saw Wen Ying, she gave her a brief glance.
“You’re here.”
Wen Ying hesitated before calling out, “Mother.”
After all, they still had to wait for Lu Jinchuan to return before discussing the divorce. Basic courtesy was still necessary.
Lou Xu looked down on Wen Ying and could not even be bothered to maintain appearances. With a stern expression, she asked, “I heard you’re no longer working at Bluecrest?”
Wen Ying did not hide it. “Yes. I just completed the formalities.”
Lou Xu frowned at her, displeasure evident in her voice. “So now you’ve learned to do nothing and live off Jinchuan?”
