Chapter 27: Wen Ying Settles a Personal Score!
Wen Ying felt a tightening in her chest, a mixture of shock and disbelief.
After a long moment, she finally spoke: "In that case, may I ask when you will be free to go with me to get the..." divorce certificate.
She didn't finish the last three words.
Lu Jinchuan’s phone rang. He glanced at Wen Ying, turned to the side to answer, and his voice softened involuntarily: "Yes, I'll be right back."
Ignoring whether Wen Ying had anything more to say, he turned abruptly and strode away with his long legs. It was the same indifferent dismissal he had always shown.
Wen Ying had intended to seize the opportunity to ask when he would be free to meet her grandmother and clear things up. But as she watched Lu Jinchuan rush toward Su Nian without a moment’s hesitation, she simply got into her car.
Forget it.
Next time.
She no longer had the strength or energy to entangle herself with him.
She took the medicine out of its box, transferred the pills into a transparent bottle, discarded the packaging, and returned to Feixi.
Wen Ying didn't mention her hospital visit. Shen Jiaxiao, assuming she had been to see her uncle, asked about his condition. Thinking of her uncle’s agony, Wen Ying closed her eyes and shook her head: "The same as always."
Shen Jiaxiao hugged her with a sorrowful expression. Wen Ying hugged her back: "I'm fine."
After work that evening, Wen Ying returned home and organized her thoughts. Drones were a key project for future technology, and Feixi would be deeply aligned with government policy over the next two years. She already had a comprehensive plan and needed to discuss it with He Xicheng and the others in a meeting.
She worked until nearly ten o'clock without realizing it. Her medication alarm went off; she swallowed the pills, suppressing a wave of nausea, just as her phone rang. It was He Xicheng.
"Little Baochuan, there is something you need to know."
"...Yes?"
"I went to meet President Yang tonight, and Lu Jinchuan and Su Nian showed up. Su Nian wants to collaborate on Feixi's upcoming project—what an appetite she has!"
Wen Ying was slightly surprised by Su Nian's confidence. "What was Lu Jinchuan's attitude?"
He Xicheng sneered: "He’s willing to provide financial backing, provided Feixi agrees. It’s essentially letting someone buy their way into the project team."
Wen Ying leaned against the kitchen island, unable to suppress a bitter smile.
Lu Jinchuan—was he using his actions to prove that Su Nian was qualified for anything she set her mind to?
"Brother Cheng, you don't need to consider me. Our project is ultimately meant to make money. If you assess it and think it's suitable, you can give it a try."
Wen Ying wouldn't let her private feelings affect the big picture. Feixi was the lifeblood of so many people; there was no reason for it to give way to her emotions.
Besides, she didn't care anymore.
"If you're not bothered, I am!" He Xicheng retorted coldly: "There are plenty of people with money and power; Blue Sun isn't the only option. Feixi has never been a company that gets 'chosen'! You just focus on your work, don't worry about this—I’ve got it covered!"
A wave of warmth washed over Wen Ying. "Thank you, Brother Cheng."
He Xicheng huffed: "Don't be so sentimental! Hanging up!"
Wen Ying looked at the phone screen and curled her lips in a silent smile. She didn't know how He Xicheng had rejected Lu Jinchuan and Su Nian, nor did she intend to interfere or ask.
She turned to go get some rest.

At the club.
Cheng Mu set down his cards and said in surprise: "He rejected them?"
"Su Nian is a Caltech PhD, and He Xicheng doesn't think she's good enough?" Cheng Mu found it baffling. "Who could He Xicheng possibly think is good enough?"
Huo Jinran glanced at the calm and composed Lu Jinchuan nearby. "My old man said that He Xicheng’s U.N.2 is highly regarded by the top brass. It has no weaknesses in technological innovation or practical weapons systems. Feixi's upcoming projects are all priority-subsidized. It’s only natural for him to have high standards."
He Xicheng had enough capital to be arrogant even five years ago with the U.N.2. The fact that the U.N.2 system and its design logic remained uncracked to this day was proof enough of He Xicheng’s worth.
"What role does Wen Ying play in all this? I don't believe she isn't settling a personal score!" Cheng Mu was still convinced that Wen Ying was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
"She joined Feixi," Lu Jinchuan said, unhurriedly.
Cheng Mu and Huo Jinran were both stunned.
"Her? Wen Ying?" Cheng Mu burst into laughter, the look of someone waiting for a show appearing on his face: "What could she possibly do there?"
"Cleaning lady?"
"A little secretary?"
