Seeing Lu Jinchuan return with his exquisitely handsome face frozen in a cold expression, Su Nian knew immediately that his conversation with Wen Ying had not gone well. Lu Jinchuan made no effort to hide his impatience toward her.

Lu Siran, however, seemed somewhat distracted. "Brother, did she say anything to you? Like... bad-mouthing me or anything of that sort?"

Lu Jinchuan lifted his gaze to look at her. "What did you do to upset her?"

"I didn't do anything," Lu Siran muttered, clutching her juice glass. "I'm not that bored!"

Huo Jinran walked in and glanced at Lu Jinchuan. He kept quiet about the scene that had just unfolded outside, wanting to spare Su Nian any distress; after all, it was awkward when another woman threw herself at one's own man.

Cheng Mu scoffed, "Why are you asking your sister? It was Wen Ying who went too far, following him here like that. She should really check if she has the standing to pull such a stunt."

Huo Jinran lit a cigarette. "The way things look, even if you ask for a divorce, she's going to cling to you. Jinchuan, you’d better prepare yourself mentally."

Lu Jinchuan remained silent, his expression indifferent as he poured a cup of tea for Su Nian.

Su Nian offered only a faint smile, neither commenting nor taking a stance, clearly not bothered by this little episode.

Observing the situation, Lu Siran felt a flicker of guilt, but she quickly dismissed it. Even if it weren't because of her, Wen Ying was such a pathetic sycophant that she was perfectly capable of showing up uninvited anyway. If that was the case, why bother explaining? Wen Ying was just that kind of worthless woman. Did it even matter if people misunderstood?

With that thought, Lu Siran felt at ease again and returned to her chatter, clinging to Su Nian and asking about life at A University.

Wen Ying had scheduled a consultation with her attending physician for next Monday to discuss conservative treatment options.

Early Friday morning, Shen Jiaxiao sent Wen Ying a WeChat message. He Xicheng was going to attend the Drone Flight Control Invitational that afternoon. Originally, as one of the major shareholders, Shen Jiaxiao was supposed to attend as well, but in an effort to help Wen Ying break the ice with He Xicheng, she gave the invitation to Wen Ying, urging her to find a chance to meet him.

Wen Ying felt both touched and guilty. She had entrusted her life to the wrong person for far too long, failing the expectations of so many. Her conscience weighed heavy.

At 10:00 AM, Wen Ying submitted her resignation and began the handover process. Since there was someone in the Public Relations Department she deemed capable of stepping into her role, she passed on the essential work without reservation.

"Manager Wen, are you really leaving?" the deputy manager asked, looking at her with regret.

"Yes."

The deputy manager, who quite liked Wen Ying—finding her to be a kind person despite her cold, distant exterior—asked, "You haven't been feeling well lately. Have you been to the doctor? Did your husband go with you?"

Wen Ying paused. "I had it checked. It’s nothing serious."

She didn't explain whether her husband had accompanied her. Even if she were on her deathbed, Lu Jinchuan would likely not be willing to spare the effort.

The deputy manager felt relieved. "Aren't you supposed to deliver lunch to your husband every day? Not going today?"

Everyone in the PR department knew Wen Ying was a devoted wife. She had once mentioned that her husband occasionally suffered from stomach pain and was a picky eater, so she prepared all his meals and delivered them faithfully during her lunch break. Unfortunately, to this day, none of them had ever seen what her husband looked like. What a lucky man to have such a wonderful wife!

Wen Ying’s gaze flickered as she lowered her eyes. "No, I'm not going."

She would never go again.

The deputy manager didn't think much of it and quickly changed the subject, saying with envy, "It’s so reassuring to have a good husband. I just feel like people have different destinies. You know Su Nian, right? Look at this photo."

Wen Ying looked down. In the photo on the screen, Lu Jinchuan was supporting Su Nian; in the next, he had scooped her up into his arms, completely disregarding the gazes of those around them.

"Su Nian’s heels were hurting her, so President Lu immediately carried her upstairs, so nervous and doting. That is what a princess held in the palm of one's hand looks like."

"Who in the company doesn't envy Su Nian right now?"

"She's beautiful, a top student, headhunted by Fortune 500 companies, and has a man as powerful as President Lu paving the way for her. I think she’ll be the mistress of Lansheng any day now! It’s a pity you’re leaving, Manager Wen; otherwise, we could have gone to curry favor with the future madam together."

Nowadays, in the eyes of the Lansheng staff, Su Nian was already no different from the owner’s wife. After all, no one was blind—Lu Jinchuan’s partiality was simply too blatant.

Wen Ying lowered her eyes and went to the restroom to touch up her makeup, hiding her pale complexion. She didn't want to delay any longer. Before her resignation was even officially approved, she took the elevator straight to the top floor.

She happened to run into Zhao Ke.

"Where is Lu Jinchuan?" she asked.

Zhao Ke frowned. "Here to deliver food again? It’s not even lunch break yet. We’ve already said that Manager Wen is not to come up and bother President Lu unless absolutely necessary!"

Soon, Wen Ying would understand why Zhao Ke’s attitude was so impatient.
