13 An Irresistible Impulse
After hearing Che Baiyuan’s words, Cang Qian immediately thought about where to start investigating the matter concerning Banai.
A faint smile curved her lips. “Sister Baiyuan, do you still remember who the few leading clan members inciting trouble were?”
“Of course I do!” Che Baiyuan looked at her. “You want to clear your name and investigate this matter, right?”
Cang Qian nodded.
After some thought, Che Baiyuan said, “Alright, I’ll help you look into it!”
Cang Qian quickly waved her hand. “No need, sister. This has nothing to do with you. Just tell me who those instigators were, and I’ll investigate on my own. No need to drag you into it.”
Che Baiyuan, a little annoyed, said, “Don’t be polite with me! You saved my life and the lives of two cubs—I will never forget that favor.”
“Not just helping you investigate a few beastmen, even if you wanted my two mates or my pearl jewelry, I’d give them to you without hesitation!”
Hearing this, Cang Qian felt touched. “Well, since sister has said it like that, I won’t hold back with you in the future. Please help me with the investigation.”
Then she teased, “Nevah and Quangang are better left to you. I’m not really suited for that, but I can accept pearl jewelry.”
“You little miser!” Che Baiyuan laughed and playfully pinched her cheek.
Then she sighed dramatically, “Also, my two mates aren’t handsome enough. No wonder you’re not into them.”
“Another day, I’ll introduce you to a male beastman even better looking than Banai. I guarantee you won’t be able to refuse. I don’t believe you’re not attracted at all!”
Cang Qian’s cheeks flushed immediately at her words.
She hadn’t yet bonded with Banai and had never been in love in the real world, so she was shy, unlike Che Baiyuan who was already a mother beast.
At that moment, Banai came in from outside.
“Baiyuan, little female, Banai and I just got married yesterday, and you’re already introducing other male beastmen to her? Isn’t that a bit unfriendly to me?”
Che Baiyuan linked arms with Cang Qian and stood up teasingly. “Oh, the young elites of our tribe actually get jealous—quite rare to see.”
She gently nudged Cang Qian towards Banai.
Caught off guard, Cang Qian stumbled forward.
Banai quickly stepped up and caught her in his arms, pulling her close at the waist and looking down into her beautiful eyes.
Every time he was close to Cang Qian, he felt how soft and fragrant she was, especially her tender waist—just leaning into it made him unable to resist the urge.
Suddenly, ignoring everyone around, Banai took advantage of their stunned eye contact and quickly kissed her lips.
He had been itching to do so all night since he missed the chance last night.
Cang Qian’s eyes widened in shock, her mind completely blank.
Che Baiyuan watched the two happily, thrilled inside!
From Cang Qian’s words yesterday, she knew the couple were living together but not yet joined. She also knew about Cang Qian’s one-month deadline, so she decided to help.
Just then, the wedding soup was ready.
Nevah came out of the kitchen. “Yuan Yuan, the wedding soup’s ready...”
Before he could finish, he saw the couple kissing in the living room and immediately stopped talking, giving a knowing look to his mate watching the scene.
Che Baiyuan quickly walked over, linking Nevah’s arm, whispering, “Don’t disturb them. We’ll take the soup out and share it with the clan ourselves.”
Nevah nodded with a smile and returned to the kitchen with Quangang, carrying a large pot of the wedding soup toward the door.
Che Baiyuan followed, smiling, leaving the living room to the kissing couple.
After everyone left, the living room fell silent except for their breathing.
Only then did Cang Qian snap back to reality. She pushed Banai away slightly. “You… if you want to kiss, do it at home. After all, this isn’t our place.”
Banai smiled and came close again. “Would you still want to kiss me at home? Who pushed me away last night and went back to sleep?”
Cang Qian turned her face away. “I was really tired then... just wanted to sleep.”
Banai leaned in again, speaking warmly, “Then come sleep in my room tonight. Even if you’re tired, it won’t matter.”
Cang Qian suddenly looked at him. “I told you last night: let’s wait until we’ve cleared up your situation.”
“I already learned some things from Sister Baiyuan just now. She trusts me and is willing to help, so she’ll investigate.”
Banai wrapped her in his arms, resting his head on her neck. “Actually, I don’t hate you anymore. All signs point to someone else being responsible.”
“Little Qian, I actually liked you a lot before. If not for that incident, I might have already been your mate. Since I know now it’s not you, I don’t want to waste any more time.”
“Don’t forget, you still have that one-month deadline.”
He suddenly grinned mischievously. “You don’t think I’m so powerful that you’d get pregnant after just one time, do you?”
Cang Qian glared at him and coquettishly retorted, “What are you saying!”
Banai laughed and kissed her again.
This time, Cang Qian didn’t push him away because he was right—she still had that one-month deadline to prove her fertility.
Although Xiaoyou told her she was highly fertile, how high? Was it enough to conceive after one time?
What if not? What if they didn’t find the truth in time?
So she thought it over: since Banai no longer hated her, it was better to get it over with before the deadline passed and she got slapped in the face!
But Banai’s leg injury also needed investigating. She planned to work on both fronts simultaneously.
While they kissed again, someone suddenly entered from outside.
Sang Yingying, who had just delivered blessings and supplements at the door, took the opportunity when Che Baiyuan and the two mates were outside sharing soup to sneak inside.
Unexpectedly, she saw Cang Qian and Banai kissing passionately.
Jealousy flared wildly in her heart as she stood at the doorway, her eyes sharp and venomous, fixed on Cang Qian in Banai’s tight embrace.
Sang Yingying suppressed the urge to rush forward and kill Cang Qian—she had other matters to attend to and couldn’t let this impulse ruin her plans.
While the couple was unaware, she quietly retreated to the kitchen.
Back in the living room, Cang Qian gently pushed Banai away. “Alright, after all, this is someone else’s home. This isn’t right.”
Banai smiled, caressing her cheek.
Cang Qian took his hand and laughed, “Let’s go help Sister Baiyuan distribute the wedding soup.”
Banai nodded. Seeing her happy, he felt happy too.
Hand in hand, they left the living room and headed outside.
Just as they stepped out, Sang Yingying quickly emerged from the kitchen and went toward Che Baiyuan’s room.
Meanwhile, Cang Qian felt a flicker of movement behind her as she crossed the threshold.
She turned back to look but saw nothing.
Banai held her close and asked, “What’s wrong? Not feeling well?”
Frowning slightly, Cang Qian shook her head. “Let’s go. We should help.”
They walked toward the courtyard.
Yet, Cang Qian’s chest felt heavy and uneasy. Something felt off just now, and the feeling only grew stronger.
Suddenly alert, she pushed Banai away and hurriedly turned back into the house.
