Chapter Fifteen: The Ocean Cruise 14
Chapter 15: What’s Going On with This Woman Who Suddenly Appeared?
What does she want? Is she trying to steal someone from me?
Zhao Jinchu lowered her voice and whispered to the person beside her, “Let’s leave first.”
After saying that, she pulled Qi Yan through the back door, keeping her hat brim low.
Of course, no one wanted to leave when she took someone away.
Zhao Meila was the first to speak up: “Is that you?”
She immediately recognized Zhao Jinchu.
Anger surged through her, making it impossible to think calmly: “Why are you stealing my person?”
Zhao Jinchu tilted her head and glanced at her.
Unwilling to engage, she kept walking, pulling Qi Yan and swiftly exited through the back door.
Everyone present was stunned for a few seconds before their anger and disbelief overwhelmed them.
By the time they chased outside, the woman had already vanished without a trace.
Zhao Meila stood outside the ballroom, staring at the empty corridor, her face turning pale with rage, nearly gasping for breath.
What on earth is wrong with that woman?
A newcomer, daring to steal someone right in front of her?
Meanwhile, on the other side,
Zhao Jinchu took winding turns, ensuring they were safe before stopping in a secluded corner.
Since leaving the banquet hall, the system’s warning sounds had ceased.
She let out a sigh of relief.
Qi Yan, holding the person, rested his head on her shoulder, his pale, sickly face flushing with color.
His sleeve had accidentally ridden up, revealing patches of bruises and puncture marks.
Zhao Jinchu reached out, tugging the sleeve down to cover them.
She knew his health was poor.
But after so long under treatment, why did it seem like there was no improvement?
There was nothing else to do but gently pat his back, encouraging him to steady his breathing.
She took off her hat and placed it on his head, pressing it down to shield most of his face.
She asked softly, “Feeling better?”
Qi Yan was still gasping; his eyelashes trembled, and the redness that had spread through his body showed no sign of fading.
She smiled helplessly. What criteria was that system using to select people?
How could it have let him into the instance?
With his frail body, if thrown into a crowd, he’d be picked apart without a trace.
---
Qin Chuan was the last to arrive at the banquet hall.
He arrived just in time to see Zhao Jinchu taking someone away.
Looking around at the restless crowd filling the room and the lingering scent of flowers,
his electronic watch emitted a red light, indicating his mental energy was dropping.
Qin Chuan pulled out a small vial and left it in the room for a while before retrieving it and sealing it.
He pondered aloud, “A neuro-hallucinogenic potion?”
---
Three high school boys stood with their arms crossed, watching as bystanders: “Tsk tsk tsk.”
“This is quite the drama.”
“Wow, Sister Jinchu is amazing, she actually took that person away.”
“This is bad. Everyone’s going to be against her now.”
The three chatted amongst themselves before turning their gaze to Qin Chuan.
For some reason, Qin Chuan felt a bit pressured under the scrutiny of these three still-childlike youths.
Qin Chuan asked, “Something you need?”
Curious, they asked, “Mr. Qin, how’s your search going? Any leads?”
Qin Chuan nodded, “Found some clues.”
Their eyes lit up, “Great!”
“This mission can still be cracked, huh?”
“Shall the three of us go look again?”
“Okay!”
The three immediately ran off, leaving the banquet hall behind.
Qin Chuan stood at the doorway, thoughtfully reflecting on what had happened when Zhao Jinchu left.
The person she took seemed familiar—he looked like someone he had seen before. What was that on his neck? Bandages?
After some contemplation, he took the food he had brought and left.
