Chapter 13

High school girl: “Yeah, wow, look at the person sitting on the stage, so handsome, even better looking than my crush. I really, sob, want his autograph, want a photo with him.”

Two male high school students exchanged glances.

Hmm? What crush? What are you talking about?

They didn’t understand...

But they heard their watches buzzing anxiously, too scared to look around.

The three whispered among themselves:

“How much mental energy do you have?”

“65.”

“67.”

“Ugh, all three of us have such low mental energy.”

“It’s okay, ours was never high to begin with. Li Juanjuan and Zhao Meila started at 75. We only started at 70.”

“Phew, no worries. That Miss Jin Chu said the mental energy can recover. We just need to sleep.”

“Right, right.”

...

The new high school student froze at the door, not daring to look too much, but couldn’t help sneaking glances around.

Until suddenly, someone appeared beside her.

The new student looked over, curious. It was a girl, dressed all in black, sharp and professional, wearing a cap pulled low over her head.

The new student’s eyes lit up with joy: “It’s you.”

All three high school students liked Zhao Jin Chu very much; she was the one who fought off the bald uncle to save them.

Zhao Jin Chu looked up, glanced around, and nodded: “We meet again.”

After a polite greeting, she looked toward the ballroom.

She didn’t need to search; her gaze immediately fixed on the person on the high platform.

Zhao Jin Chu stood at the doorway, her expression complex.

The room was chaotic, and the looks cast upon Qi Yan were greedy and fervent, almost tangible. Yet, when he turned his head, scanning beyond the crowd, his eyes met hers instantly.

Their gazes locked. Qi Yan was stunned, pressed his lips, then looked away.

Qi Yan’s reaction stirred a commotion among the crowd gathered at the door.

Especially that brief pause, as he kept staring at the doorway.

Several people’s hearts raced, and they almost simultaneously thought: He’s looking at me. He’s so fragile. He needs me. He’s searching for me.

Nearby, Zhao Jin Chu clicked her tongue lightly.

She pressed down on her cap’s brim and walked straight inside.

But just as she took a step forward, a high school student beside her grabbed her: “Hey, don’t get involved, you’ll get hurt.”

Zhao Jin Chu shrugged off his hand, her voice calm: “It’s fine.”

Inside the ballroom, the crystal chandelier was shattered, blood spilled across the floor, and tables and chairs were in disarray.

A massive brawl had broken out; everyone was fighting with wild abandon, attacking whoever they saw.

Without looking back, she entered.

The three new high school students stared blankly for a moment.

High school girl: “Jin Chu’s watch didn’t beep or warn her of danger.”

“Wow.”

“So strong.”

As Zhao Jin Chu pushed through the crowd, someone arrived before her—it was Zhao Meila.

Zhao Meila stood beside Qi Yan, her cheeks flushed, eyes red-rimmed. Her gaze toward Qi Yan was complicated.

At times, it was like a pilgrimage; at others, greedily wanting to pull him close.

Finally, she saw him again.

Since that night, she had been thinking about him nonstop.

This time, so close, as if within reach.

Zhao Meila reached out cautiously: “I can take you away. Will you come with me?”

Her electronic watch buzzed loudly: [Warning, your mental energy has dropped to 33. Danger! Danger!]

She ignored the annoying alert, her eyes stubborn, seeking an answer.

Qi Yan looked weary, didn’t glance at her: “Get lost.”

He said only that, and Zhao Meila’s mind went into turmoil.

Just as she was about to speak, she suddenly noticed someone standing beside her.
