Chapter 15: Who Are You So Enthusiastically Chatting With?

Shi Yun’s gaze fixed steadily on the golden Nanmu wood plaque hanging high once again, her eyelashes trembling slightly. This plaque was clearly no ordinary piece. Well then, another favor owed.
“Teacher Shi, this Mo Ru Hall is so grand!” Li Yue’s admiring voice sounded beside her, breaking Shi Yun’s train of thought.
Shi Yun came back to herself, softly murmured “Hmm,” and led Li Yue into Mo Ru Hall, introducing the basic details as they walked.
After completing the tour, Li Yue formed a preliminary impression of Mo Ru Hall and took her leave.
Shi Yun accompanied her to the door, gave a slight nod in farewell, then turned back inside.
Her eyes casually swept across the tabletop, where a bag lay quietly.
She stepped closer, a flicker of realization crossing her eyes as she gently picked up the bag.
Inside was the coat Fu Siyu had draped over her shoulders at the banquet.
She had left so hurriedly last night that she forgot to return it.
Thinking of the plaque hung up again, Shi Yun’s lashes fluttered and she clicked open her phone.
She had never liked taking advantage of others, nor did she want to be indebted.
She looked at her manicured nails, hesitated for a moment, then opened Fu Siyu’s WeChat.
Though they had connected long ago, the chat screen was clean now, with no conversation at all.
She stared intently at the screen, fingers hovering over the keyboard. Just as she typed two characters, footsteps sounded at the door.
She lifted her eyes slightly to see Gao Qian approaching, smiling brightly. “Cousin, what brings you here?”
“Xiao Yun, look what I brought you,” Gao Qian said with a grin, holding up a bag like a treasure.
Shi Yun took it and opened it with her mouth slightly agape, surprised. “Isn’t this the French crepe that Zhi Yu queued for two hours to buy last time?”
“Exactly. The line was endless. Knowing you love this, I brought some for you. Try it.”
Shi Yun hurriedly put down her phone, opening the box as she said, “Cousin, you really spoil me!”
Gao Qian laughed and sat down, his eyes catching the phone on the table. He casually asked, “Who are you chatting with so eagerly?”
Shi Yun handed him a crepe. “No one.”
She glanced at the still-lit phone screen.
That glance left her utterly stunned.

The phone screen showed several messages she must have accidentally sent to Fu Siyu.
Panic surged through her as she snatched up the phone, muttering in her mind: “Oh no, what did I just send?”
The first message glaringly read: “Last time felt pretty good ah ah uh uh.”
She had meant to type, “I haven’t returned the coat from the last banquet yet.”
What kind of autocorrect was this!
The following filler words carried an inexplicable, eerie vibe.
Scrolling down quickly revealed two cat emojis acting coquettishly.
Shi Yun’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
Her image!
Most mortifying was the last emoji—a greasy man smirking sideways with the caption “So naughty?”
It was one that Jiang Zhiyu had sent her earlier, saved out of curiosity.
Now it felt embarrassingly out of place, as if it could tear apart her reputation.
Shi Yun’s face flushed red and pale in turns. She wished she could disappear into the floor.
Frantically, she long-pressed the emoji, just about to tap “recall,” when Fu Siyu’s reply came through: “Still reminiscing about last time?”
Shi Yun: “……”
How to respond? Her mouth opened, every strand of hair screaming for help.
He couldn’t possibly think she was teasing him…
Before she could recover, another cat emoji popped up, with the phrase “Sit still now,” followed by, “Good enough?”
Shi Yun’s toes were so embarrassed they might have carved out a fairy castle on the floor.
Meanwhile, Fu Siyu sat upright in the backseat of a luxurious car, fingers long and slender clutching his phone, eyes fixed intently on the screen.
His lips curved upward as if pulled by invisible strings.
Assistant Xu cleared his throat softly, whispering, “Mr. Fu, the meeting materials for Hengyuan Group this afternoon are all prepared.”
Fu Siyu didn’t even glance up, responding with a faint “Hmm,” eyes never leaving the phone.
Assistant Xu glanced again, noting Fu Siyu’s thumb gently scrolling back and forth through the chat repeatedly.
Surprised, he thought, in all his time following the boss, he’d never seen him like this.
Curiosity piqued, he sneaked another peek at Fu Siyu’s screen.

Unfortunately, the angle was wrong, revealing nothing; he could only wonder in his mind which master could captivate their boss so completely.
Back with Gao Qian, seeing Shi Yun’s utterly dejected expression, he hurried over with concern. “What’s wrong?”
Shi Yun hurriedly typed into the chatbox: “Sorry, sent by mistake.”
Then she turned off the screen, smiled at Gao Qian, and feigned calm: “My phone misfired some messages just now, nothing important.”
Gao Qian chuckled, “Judging by your reaction, you didn’t send anything bad, did you?”
Shi Yun waved her hand, took a bite of crepe, and mumbled, “It’s nothing, really.”
Gao Qian didn’t press further, smiling warmly as he looked at her. “How does it taste? Do you like it?”
Though her mind was still in turmoil and everything tasted bland, a faint smile remained on her lips. “It’s good. No wonder so many people queued for it.”
Gao Qian couldn’t help but reach out to ruffle her hair. “I’ll buy you some again next time.”
Shi Yun shook her head. “Just a taste is enough. Queuing wastes too much time.”
After finishing, she moved to the tea table, gracefully picking up the teapot to brew tea for Gao Qian.
Steam rose gently as hot water filled the cups.
Gao Qian’s gaze followed her figure, slowly surveying the familiar yet somewhat unfamiliar Mo Ru Hall, a trace of nostalgia flickering in his eyes. “It’s been so long since I’ve come here. This place hasn’t changed one bit.”
Shi Yun’s thoughts were drawn back by his words.
Back then, if Gao Qian couldn’t find her anywhere else, he would always find her in Mo Ru Hall.
Then they would spend the entire day together.
She practiced calligraphy while he ground ink beside her; when tired, they drank tea and chatted.
Having brewed the tea, Shi Yun carried the cup over to Gao Qian. “Cousin, this is your favorite Jin Jun Mei.”
Gao Qian accepted it with a smile. “Xiao Yun still remembers what I like.”
Shi Yun turned, lifted her own cup, took a gentle sip, the elegant fragrance spreading across her tongue. She spoke softly, “Of course I remember—you’re my cousin.”
Gao Qian’s fingers tightened unconsciously around the cup, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes.
Can he only ever be a cousin?
At that moment, Shi Yun’s phone rang.
