Chapter 8: Following the Guidance of Fortune

A reproductive object or sustenance?
If I had to choose between the two, I’d still pick the latter...
And judging by Lady Misfortune’s attitude, it doesn’t seem like she actually wants me to bear offspring.
Trading honor for survival space, exchanging face for substance—Hermione felt deep down that it was a worthwhile bargain!
Seeing Hermione fall silent, Lady Misfortune seemed to think she still had doubts, so her tone softened and she explained in greater detail:
“Rest assured, I do not need to eliminate any excess extraordinary traits.”
After a pause, she added, “I do have use for you.”
“But what I covet is not your body. Just by staying here, you are already helping me a great deal. When the time comes, I will send you back to your human tribe.”
Just by staying here, I can help her?
Hermione did not grasp the meaning of these words, but seeing Lady Misfortune’s lips pressed lightly together, it was clear she did not wish to elaborate further.
Yet, she actually planned to send me back to my tribe?
Hermione was astonished.
Lady Misfortune really did not appear to be a cruel demonic wolf... Although in this mysterious world, it was more about alignments than a simple good-versus-evil distinction.
At this moment, Hermione sincerely hoped that this kind Lady Misfortune would not fall victim to the ancient sun god or the goddess of night.
But she was only rank 5 now; even with foresight, how could she help her avoid such a fate?
Persuade Lady Misfortune to join the ancient sun god’s forces?
Urge her not to ascend to rank 1 and become the target of the goddess of night?
Or gamble everything by helping Lady Misfortune become a true god through the path before the goddess of night?
Her head began to ache again...
“I’m going back to cook.”
Hermione decided not to dwell on such matters; after all, it was still early, and neither the ancient sun god nor the goddess of night had made any moves yet.

More importantly, Lady Misfortune clearly would not heed the advice of a frail human like her now.
...
After the “Mother of Heaven” paid her a visit, perhaps due to Lady Misfortune’s notorious reputation spreading around, Hermione surprisingly managed to live peacefully within the demonic wolf realm.
During this peaceful period, Lady Misfortune’s dwelling gradually took on more signs of life.
Hermione noticed that Lady Misfortune was consciously adopting human habits. For example, demonic wolves did not brush their teeth, wash up, eat cooked food, use furniture, or sleep in beds.
Yet Lady Misfortune did all these things daily, without fail, and had even turned them into habits.
Living together with her, Hermione almost began to think Lady Misfortune was a human disguised as a demonic wolf.
“Lady Misfortune, why do you deliberately learn human customs?” Hermione once asked out of curiosity but received no concrete answer.
To this question, Lady Misfortune responded enigmatically, “When you enter the realm of demigods, come ask me again.”
What connection could human customs have with demigods or even gods?
Hermione often pondered this in her spare time. She recalled that the videos mentioned gods needing anchors. Even the true gods of later generations were basically anchored by humans.
True gods with many anchors were spiritually stable; losing many anchors caused gods to become unstable.
Lady Misfortune’s imitation of human habits might be related to these anchors.
At least, it was connected to stabilizing her spiritual state!
Lady Misfortune truly was gifted... Without any data or hints, she could figure out a way to stabilize her spirit. Hermione felt a surge of admiration.
From this, Hermione surmised that Lady Misfortune keeping her close was simply to study and mimic humans more closely...
Realizing this so-called scheme Lady Misfortune had regarding her, Hermione felt a bit disappointed—she had thought she held a special place in Lady Misfortune’s heart, but it turned out the other was merely interested in her human identity.
Though Hermione did not harbor special feelings for Lady Misfortune.
Still, living with such a stunning beauty for so long and being cared for so attentively made it impossible for Hermione not to be stirred emotionally.
Well, species barriers couldn’t stop me from daydreaming; it’s not my weak will but Lady Misfortune’s irresistible charm!
How could I not be distracted living day to day with such a breathtaking beauty?

However...
I want to escape the demonic wolf realm, and inevitably, I will part ways with Lady Misfortune, the demonic wolf goddess of misfortune... Let this feeling be buried in my youth!
Using absurd humor, Hermione quickly adjusted her mindset after realizing she had unknowingly drifted off course during these quiet days.
...
Under Lady Misfortune’s protection, as long as she did not recklessly venture outside, Hermione’s safety was guaranteed.
Life without freedom was hard, but with food and clothing secured, and having the task of organizing all the points mentioned in the video stories by comparing them with real-world knowledge and experience, her days were fairly fulfilling.
Hermione assumed this life would continue until Lady Misfortune took the initiative to send her back to the human tribe. But before that day came, Hermione encountered someone who shocked her—
A slender boy with silver hair, eyes tightly shut like a blind person, timidly standing at the doorstep of the dwelling... After the initial shock, Hermione hurriedly pulled the boy inside Lady Misfortune’s residence!
“Ullorius! What are you doing here?!” Hermione exclaimed.
The boy’s gentle features opened his eyes; his gaze was pure, and the faintly sorrowful expression shifted to one of joy, relief, and a touch of tenderness upon seeing Hermione.
His voice was soft, without any gloom—pure and innocent as a child’s: “Sister Hermione, I came following the guidance of luck.”
Following the guidance of luck...
Hermione knew this boy had the ability to wield “luck,” though it was unreliable at times. Yet, he had managed to penetrate the demonic wolf realm and find her?!
“Ullorius, this is the demonic wolf’s territory! You came here alone like this?!” Hermione still found it hard to believe.
Ullorius whispered, “Everyone in the tribe says you were taken by the demonic wolves... They are all worried about you. I came specially to find you. Faith made me lucky all along the way...”
His words brimmed with reverence for the “path of luck” and happiness at achieving his goal:
“Now, I have indeed found you.”
