Volume 1, Chapter 40: The Car Accident
Speeding!
It was not a scene of Xie Shiqi flooring the gas pedal, with a minivan racing wildly like an unbridled horse.
Mother Ren peeked outside and kept watch at the door. Once Lord Ye emerged, she sent another matron in to stand guard, then followed Lord Ye out.
"My lady, are you awake? It is nearly time; we must be leaving." After Si Si finished dressing, a knock sounded at the door—it was Mianmian calling for her to depart.
"Do you intend to run over there barefoot?" Lin Qing’s magnetic voice echoed from behind.
Lin Chaoge felt as if she had just returned from the gates of death; her back was drenched in sweat. Hearing the bearded man’s words, she hurriedly picked up her chopsticks to eat.
Glancing at Wei Xuan beside her once more, Lin Qing could not help but hold him tightly—a gesture filled with both pride and reluctance. How fortunate that I had the courage to keep you back then; only now do I have the chance to hold you so firmly.
Without waiting to find a parking space, the lead car stopped abruptly. A burly, middle-aged man stepped out in a frantic rush and headed straight toward them.
What he did not know was that in the eyes of the Xia family, he had already been labeled a penniless pauper, a pretentious fraud, and a liar who spoke nothing but nonsense.
"I will say it one more time: get out. I do not need anyone’s comfort... the person who was good to me has already left." Will there ever be anyone else who treats me as well as Wei Xuan did?
Outside, it was quiet. Beyond the occasional cry of autumn cicadas and the rustling of insects, the scent of osmanthus filling the city could not dispel the bitterness lingering in the narrow courtyard, as time slipped away unnoticed.
Just as she finished a bowl, the sound of messy footsteps and voices erupted outside the door, as if many people had arrived. Yu Luosha and Yun Shiniang exchanged glances; understanding the unspoken message, Yun Shiniang immediately walked out.
"Silly girl, I just wanted to see what it feels like to hold you while sleeping, is that alright?" Bing Chen stood up, took Ai Jia’s hand, and pulled her up from the sofa.
"Attention passengers, the flight to New York will depart in ten minutes. Please board the aircraft immediately!" The flight attendant’s sweet voice rang through the terminal, yet to Bing Xue, that sweetness sounded incredibly grating.
Everyone could not help but turn to look at the bridge, where they saw the old steward, Zhou Quan, hurrying toward them from the other side.
Thrown to the ground once more by Chen Yue, Ming Xuan finally regained some of his senses; he must have been missing Yue’er too much to be suffering such hallucinations.
Bai Zuwu and Meng Tuozi looked at each other, neither speaking, for they too wanted to know exactly how much confidence Qin Bin possessed to make such a bold claim.
Upon hearing this, Wen Qiyan, who was in the middle of a meal, choked and began to cough. Lin Xinyao’s expression shifted instantly, growing quite flustered.
"That won't be necessary! You all go and have fun; I only came here to find someone," Gu Youlan replied, declining with elegant tact.
Although his goal was merely that jade pillow, his expression at this moment looked rather strange.
Seeing a tall, slender figure suddenly loom before her, casting a dark shadow that engulfed her in gloom, Fan Ying felt utterly bewildered, having no idea what had transpired.
She knew not how many days and nights had passed. No matter how hard Wanying tried to stay awake, the exhaustion of days of toil swept over her, and she collapsed unconsciously against Liu Chenyang, sinking into a deep sleep.
Casting his gaze toward a certain spot once more, the Dragon Emperor sat smiling in a place dense with demonic energy. Wrapped in swirling dark aura that had completely replaced his once-perfect circulation of the Five Elements, his presence surged forth, far more formidable than that of the other three.
