Chapter Nineteen: The Horizon Expands

Hua Feng was reviewing Old Meng’s file.
One of his subordinates reminded him, “This child Meng Fan, whom he adopted, should we keep an eye on him? What if he’s learned some of the beast master’s techniques too?”
Hua Feng shook his head and said firmly, “It’s not a matter of ‘what if’—it’s certain. The information and our investigations show that Meng Fan has been exceptionally clever since childhood, seemingly a prodigy.”
“Usually, the animals at the zoo are very friendly with him. He definitely must have learned some beast master skills.”
The man furrowed his brow and asked, “Should we take action to restrict or warn him?”
Hua Feng looked at his subordinate, smiled, and waved his hand. “Xiao Sun, you’re still too young. Our principle at ‘Everywhere Access’ is not to interfere lightly in matters between supernatural beings. If Meng Fan hadn’t broken the rules this time and left us leverage, it would be hard to make him work for us.”
“After all, as the department handling supernatural affairs, we must rely on evidence and reason.”
“The scholar disrupts the law with words, the knight breaks rules with force.”
“If someone wants to cultivate certain techniques, and we lack grounds to intervene, what harm does the Celestial Master’s Five Thunder really pose as the leader of the righteous path?”
“Or the full-spectrum cultivation of forbidden arts—are they truly more dangerous?”
Then Hua Feng spoke earnestly, “They are dangerous, but we can’t control everything. Supernaturals are inherently different from ordinary people, wielding highly dangerous powers. Ordinary rules often don’t apply to them, yet we can’t intervene in every single thing.”
“What we can do is to strengthen our own forces, gain more allies, and reduce our enemies.”
“Treat others with softness—that’s how softness can overcome hardness!”
“Also, since Meng Fan has joined ‘Everywhere Access,’ that means he’s one of us. We need to broaden our mindset and avoid infighting among our own.”
“Besides, Meng Fan is still a child, and children represent malleability. It’s better to subtly instill ideas and shape his values, isn’t it?”
“Don’t always think about restricting him when problems arise. It’s better to guide than to block—like how Yu the Great controlled the floods. That’s an age-old truth. You young people think you’re sharper than us, but when it comes to action, you lack maturity!”
Hua Feng’s words always hit the key points subtly, never fully exposing the truth, yet they left his subordinates with a sudden clarity.
The secretary, whom Hua Feng called Xiao Sun, asked cautiously, “So you mean we should cultivate Meng Fan, and have him work for us?”

“Not necessarily to have him work for us, but to keep him under ‘management and control’ by ‘Everywhere Access.’ This kind of control shouldn’t cause resentment or fierce opposition.”
“Sometimes if this balance is mishandled, it easily triggers rebellion. Most supernaturals are proud and arrogant; if we step back, it widens the buffer zone and gives a greater sense of security.”
“If his rebellious nature is truly provoked, who will be responsible for the damage? And if it goes badly, what if he joins the full-spectrum cultivation…”
Some things need not be said too plainly.
Just the thought sent chills down Xiao Sun’s spine.
Hua Feng sighed, “The worst outcome—who can restrain Meng Fan? Could it be only Xiao Meng? Is this a case of father and son turning against each other?”
“And who caused or deliberately led to this situation?”
“Company…” Xiao Sun lowered his head.
Hua Feng blew on his tea and took a sip, relaxed and calm. “Even if the probability is one in ten thousand, we must prevent it.”
“To nip problems in the bud—that’s what we in charge must do.”
Xiao Sun gave Hua Feng a thumbs-up. “Boss, no wonder you’re the best.”
“Enough, enough—enough joking. We can assign someone to keep a light watch on Meng Fan, but don’t interfere too much. It’s best if he transfers to our ‘Everywhere Access’ supernatural elementary school.”
“I can bring this up with Xiao Meng.”
“Besides, it’s extremely difficult to succeed as a beast master. A parent’s love is deep and far-sighted; otherwise, Xiao Meng wouldn’t have his son apprentice under Yue Huyang to find another path.”
Hua Feng then resumed looking through Xiao Meng’s file.
When he saw multiple past matchmaking attempts, he couldn’t help but smile.
He then looked at Xiao Sun and asked, “I remember there’s a Xiao Luo in HR about the same age as Xiao Meng?”
The secretary nodded. “Right. Xiao Luo is quite good-looking but picky and a bit strong-willed, so she hasn’t met the right person yet, which is why it’s dragged on.”
Hua Feng laughed heartily, “Strong-willed is good—it’s just what Xiao Meng needs.”
The secretary hesitated, “But I’m afraid Xiao Luo won’t agree?”

Hua Feng waved his hand. “No problem. I’ll speak to Xiao Luo personally. Xiao Meng is one of us now, and as the boss, I can’t let him be treated unfairly. It’s not like he’s still single in his early thirties, right?”
There is a saying: “A thousand gold pieces to buy a horse’s bone.” Someone like Old Meng, who just joined ‘Everywhere Access,’ with a formal position and a wife’s support—who wouldn’t work hard for the company?
Meanwhile, Meng Fan and Old Meng had no idea yet.
———
Nightfall.
Old Meng decided to stay at Yue Huyang’s martial arts school.
He looked at Meng Fan and, without holding back, explained the whole situation to his son.
Meng Fan feigned surprise and asked, “So Dad, you’re changing jobs?”
Old Meng nodded reluctantly. “I’ve worked at the zoo so many years. Suddenly being asked to do something else, it makes me uneasy.”
Meng Fan comforted him, “It’s okay, Dad. People always move upward, water flows downward—just go with the flow.”
“Besides, who hasn’t had a first time?”
Suddenly, Meng Fan’s tone grew serious. “But Dad, isn’t your new job a little dangerous?”
“Please be careful. Your safety is the most important thing. If things get bad, just run away quickly. Don’t forget, I’m waiting for you at home!”
Old Meng patted Meng Fan’s head and smiled at the little rascal before him. “Don’t worry, son. I may not be skilled at much, but I know how to survive.”
To reassure Meng Fan, Old Meng added, “You just focus on learning martial arts from your master. Maybe one day, you’ll be able to help me.”
“Okay!”
Meng Fan nodded obediently.
