Song Qinian quietly brought the concealer, powder, and other items to the bedside. Shen Chiyan was sleeping soundly; Song Qinian gently shook him, her heart pounding with worry. When he showed no sign of waking, she quietly exhaled in relief and opened the concealer.

Song Qinian had learned her makeup skills from short videos. Although she hadn’t yet mastered the art of completely transforming a face, she was competent enough at basic concealing. Song Qinian’s own skin was flawless; she bought the concealer to cover the kiss and bite marks left by Shen Chiyan on her neck and nape.

With practice, her concealing skills had now reached perfection.

Song Qinian only dared to look at Shen Chiyan so unabashedly when he was asleep. He never cared about skincare, yet his complexion was impeccable—soft and smooth to the touch, a stark contrast to his cold, hard temperament.

Of course, this was no time for admiration. Song Qinian bent over and worked carefully on Shen Chiyan’s face until her waist ached unbearably. Only then did she stand and glance at her handiwork.

The bruises had completely vanished, the skin matching Shen Chiyan’s original complexion perfectly.

Suddenly, Shen Chiyan stirred. Song Qinian was so startled she crouched to the floor. After a moment, seeing he remained asleep, she struggled to her feet, tidied away her “tools,” and quietly climbed into bed.

Her heart thudded anxiously as she awaited Shen Chiyan’s awakening.

Ten minutes later, he opened his eyes. Hearing the movement beside him, Song Qinian feigned just waking, rubbing her eyes drowsily. The next moment, her eyes brightened as she caught sight of his face. She immediately picked up the mirror she had placed on the nightstand and turned it to show him.

Shen Chiyan glanced at his reflection, his dark, cold eyes then shifting back to Song Qinian.

Her scalp tingled under his gaze. Feeling guilty, she lowered the mirror and said, “The bruises on your face are gone now. You have to keep your word—you can’t keep making things hard for my brother.”

Shen Chiyan snorted softly but said nothing. He offered no explanation for how he had come to Song Qinian’s room last night. He got out of bed and left the room directly.

Song Qinian hurried after him and saw him close the door behind him upon returning to his room—probably to take a shower.

Thankfully, the concealer and powder were waterproof; without makeup remover, ordinary water wouldn’t wash them off.

At breakfast, Song Qinian ate distractedly, her eyes fixed on Shen Chiyan’s handsome face. Silently, she thought to herself that this brand of concealer and powder was quite good and worth repurchasing.

“Is there something on my face?” Shen Chiyan’s cool voice suddenly sounded. Song Qinian quickly shook her head, avoiding his gaze.

A flicker of amusement crossed his eyes as a cold smile curved his lips.

He may lack great talents, but he had plenty of cunning tricks.

Song Qinian had thought Shen Chiyan had never noticed; her heart finally settled back into her chest.

She had taken four days off since being hospitalized. She wanted to return to work, but Shen Chiyan refused.

“The Ding Sheng Group won’t collapse just because you’re not there. Rest well at home, or Grandma will think I’m mistreating you.”

Song Qinian worried about her wages; missing a day meant losing a day’s pay.

Seeing her concern, Shen Chiyan said coldly, “Taking sick leave won’t deduct your salary. You’ll receive the same amount every month.”

With those words, Song Qinian finally relaxed completely.

Since she couldn’t go to the office, she decided to return to her room for some sleep.

She had been tense all night and had not slept; now that her nerves relaxed, drowsiness took over.

After going upstairs, she didn’t immediately lie down but walked to the window to watch Shen Chiyan.

As he stepped out the door, his handsome, charming back made her heart flutter.

Suddenly, Song Qinian’s expression changed drastically. She opened the door and, despite her aching waist, hurried downstairs.

How could Liu Xiaohan be here?

She was blocking Shen Chiyan’s path!

Liu Xiaohan had been visiting Song Qinian daily at the hospital, ostensibly to care for her, but in reality waiting for the Shen family. Whenever a Shen family member came to see Song Qinian, Liu Xiaohan would seize the opportunity to extort money.

But aside from Shen Keqin, she hadn’t seen a single Shen family member.

Today, upon hearing that Song Qinian was taken home by Shen Chiyan, Liu Xiaohan was angry that Song Qinian hadn’t informed her and came here.

She happened to run into Shen Chiyan leaving for work.

“Chiyan…” Liu Xiaohan called warmly and hurried to his side. “I heard Nian Nian was discharged. Is she alright?”

The moment Shen Chiyan saw Liu Xiaohan, his previously decent mood instantly soured, and anger surged within him.

“How dare you show up here?”

Under Shen Chiyan’s cold, sharp gaze, Liu Xiaohan grew timid. But remembering she was Shen Chiyan’s mother-in-law, he dared not do anything to her, so she mustered courage and said, “Chiyan, Grandma probably doesn’t know about Nian Nian’s injuries yet. Of course, I’m not one to gossip, but I’m a little short on cash lately. As your mother-in-law, shouldn’t you…”

She made a money-counting gesture, smiling ingratiatingly.

Shen Chiyan looked at her coldly, a haze of resentment unhidden in his eyes.

“You schemed against me back then, and I haven’t settled accounts with you. Now you dare threaten me with Grandma?”

If it weren’t for Liu Xiaohan, how could he have married Song Qinian? How could he have done things against Qiuqiu?

Thinking of those three suffocating, oppressive years, he hated the culprit before him all the more.

“That’s not how you should say it. For the past three years, Nian Nian has stayed with you. She’s been your wife for three years. Even if she has no merits, she has suffered for you. You…”

Liu Xiaohan’s words were cut off coldly by Shen Chiyan.

“Wife? I never considered her my wife. If it weren’t for your despicable schemes, I would never have married her.”

“You…”

Liu Xiaohan was furious and shocked.

Song Qinian had always been well-liked since childhood. Everyone who met her praised her beauty and obedience.

She thought that after three years by Shen Chiyan’s side, even if they had no feelings, sleeping together would have bred affection.

Who knew Song Qinian would be so useless?

Seeing Liu Xiaohan’s shifting expressions, Shen Chiyan’s gaze grew darker and more terrifying.

“Do you think your daughter married into our family to enjoy comfort? She came to atone for that scoundrel father of hers. Her existence is a constant reminder that Qiuqiu was reduced to a vegetable because of you and how your family schemed against me.”

As he spoke, he closed in on Liu Xiaohan. Frightened by his overwhelming presence, she stumbled backward, tripping over herself and falling to the ground.

Shen Chiyan looked down on her from above. “If you know what’s good for you, don’t let me see you again. Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to send you inside—so you can be reunited with your husband.”
