Volume One, Chapter Six: Mr. Fu's First Moment of Such Comfort
Gu Li stared at him, bewildered and innocent, as if her expression were saying, "Isn't this what you asked me to do?"
Fu Yanchen, having underestimated this woman, brushed her off in a fit of irritation and strode toward the bathroom. It was the first time he had ever felt so flustered and angry in front of a woman, yet, just before she touched him, he had felt a reaction in a certain part of his body. It was strange and unbelievable—a sensation he had never experienced before.
Gu Li was also taken aback. His face, usually icy, had worn such a chilling expression during that moment that he looked as if he might kill her. She scoffed inwardly; she had only wanted to show him why he couldn't consummate the marriage—why he was "incapable"—and he had actually acted shy. Having spent years dealing with patients, Gu Li had simply regarded Fu Yanchen as a typical patient and hadn't thought in those terms at all, let alone felt any shyness.
Meanwhile, in the bathroom, Fu Yanchen was experiencing the meaning of pleasure and sensation for the first time in his life.
The next day, Gu Li woke up feeling sore and stiff in the neck, while the man beside her appeared refreshed and radiant, looking even more energetic than the night before. Dressed in a crisp, handmade black suit, he looked refined, handsome, and extraordinary. The morning light falling upon his naturally bewitching face seemed to coat it in a layer of radiance, making him stand out like a solitary pine atop a snowy peak—aloof and majestic.
He really was handsome.
"I'd like to go to work today, is that alright?" Gu Li asked, coming back to her senses as she packed her medical kit. She had completely forgotten the awkwardness of the night before.
Because of the novel exploration from the day prior, Fu Yanchen’s impression of Gu Li had improved slightly. In high spirits, he nodded. "You have your freedom. You don't need to ask me about such things in the future."
Gu Li nodded, relieved that he wasn't a male chauvinist; it would save her a lot of trouble and arguments later on. Marrying him wasn't turning out to be so bad after all! Still, she couldn't help but feel that the way he was looking at her today was strange. Was it just her imagination?
When they went downstairs, Madam Fu was already waiting at the foot of the stairs, greeting Gu Li with a smile. "Li Li, did you sleep well last night?"
Gu Li, of course, understood what she meant. She glanced at the man beside her, feigned a blush, and lowered her head shyly, her voice soft and sweet. "It was very good."
Madam Fu slapped her thigh, beaming with joy as she pulled her over to the table for breakfast. When Gu Li caught a whiff of the scent lingering on Madam Fu, she frowned slightly. Before leaving, Gu Li slipped a prescription to her and whispered, "This is the prescription. Take it twice a day. After a month, you won't suffer anymore. It's just a minor gynecological issue; pay attention to your nutrition and keep up with exercise, and it will be completely cured."
Madam Fu stood there, surprised and moved, watching them leave. Looking up at the sky, she felt that Gu Li was truly a savior for their family.

Fu Yanchen had seen what Gu Li said to his mother before they left. When they arrived at the Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital and were about to get out of the car, Gu Li turned back to him. "Remember to take your medicine, or you won't get better."
She glanced at his legs as she spoke. Fu Yanchen frowned. Did this woman have no sense of shame?
Seeing the warning in his eyes, Gu Li wisely looked away, pushed the door open, and stepped out. Standing by the car door, she waved at him through the window with a smile. "Goodbye, Mr. Fu."
Her smile was as bright as the sun, vibrant and enchanting. Fu Yanchen suddenly recalled what had happened in the bathroom the night before. His face darkened, and he shut the car window. The car sped off, disappearing from her sight in an instant.
Gu Li stood there and clicked her tongue. Fu Yanchen’s mood changed faster than turning the pages of a book!
Inside the Traditional Chinese Medicine department, there were five people. Gu Li was sitting closest to Mu Li. As soon as Gu Li entered, she saw the other four gathered around Mu Li’s desk, discussing something.
"Wow, look at that! Perfect profile, perfect features, perfect physique. He’s truly the best of the best. Which male doctor in our hospital could compare to him?"
"What good is being handsome? It doesn't change the fact that eight of his wives have died and he’s unable to have heirs," Mu Li retorted disdainfully.
Seeing Gu Li walk in, Mu Li pushed the others aside and came over to her, placing a magazine in front of her. "Take a look at this man who brings ruin to cities and nations," she said, before leaning in to whisper, "You didn't actually marry him, did you?"
Gu Li looked down and saw the man in the magazine. He was wearing a black suit and a white shirt with a pocket square, his features and temperament born of natural elegance. She was shocked—wasn't this the very same Fu Yanchen who had just dropped her off?
Seeing her stunned, Mu Li nudged her. "Don't look at things that are useless. Your life is over if you married him."
"I can cure him. Grandma left behind a book specifically for studying the difficult and strange illnesses of the Fu family," Gu Li comforted her, implying she could handle it.
Mu Li was dumbfounded. With a worried face, she asked, "Don't you know he keeps a mistress on the side?" She flipped the magazine to the second page, which was filled with photos of him entering and leaving villas with another woman.
Now it was Gu Li’s turn to be stunned. She really didn't know. She only knew he had lost eight wives, but she had no idea about a mistress—he hadn't told her!
Thinking about how she had sincerely wanted to cure him and his family, and had even signed a one-year agreement, she felt a sudden, sickening knot in her stomach. She had wanted to trade sincerity for sincerity, but who would have thought she was being deceived? She felt more and more that she should leave sooner rather than later. Why bother with an agreement? It was a complete waste of time.

Thinking of that handsome face, a thought crossed Gu Li’s mind. She wanted a divorce!
...
At the Lu Chao training ground—a symbol of high-society entertainment. Unlike places of glitz and glamour, this was a private venue for archery, firearms, and golf, accessible only to the truly elite.
Using her brother's connections, Mu Li had found out that Fu Yanchen had been invited there for target practice. As Gu Li followed Mu Li and her brother inside, she unexpectedly saw Lu Zhaobei and Gu Mo. She frowned; if she had her way, she would never see Lu Zhaobei or Gu Mo again in this lifetime.
"Brother, why didn't you tell me that low-lives like Lu Zhaobei and Gu Mo would be here?"
Mu Tan frowned as well, looking at Gu Li apologetically. "Fu Yanchen has the land and the clients that Lu Zhaobei wants. I don't know how he bribed his way in. I'm sorry, I forgot to notify you beforehand."
Gu Li turned to leave. She could just give the divorce agreement to Fu Yanchen tonight; there was no rush.
Mu Li quickly grabbed her. "Fu Yanchen and the others saw you. Doesn't the Dean want us to secure investment? You can just give him the divorce agreement while you're at it. We're all here; Lu Zhaobei won't do anything to you."
That was true. Since she was already here, Gu Li decided not to retreat. Divorce was the priority!
Gu Li stood there, watching Fu Yanchen. He was wearing a black shirt, unbuttoned at the collar, which made him look even more somber. With his black trousers and 190-centimeter frame, he was exceptionally striking in the crowd; everyone around him seemed to fade into the background. If her impression of him had been a nine out of ten this morning, it was now in the negatives.
Men were truly good at pretending.
Little did he know, his image had plummeted in Gu Li’s eyes.
"Mr. Fu, hello!" Gu Li greeted him gracefully, reaching out with a warm, forced smile.
Fu Yanchen looked somewhat surprised to see her, but he still extended his hand with elegant, gentlemanly poise. "Dr. Gu?"
*Dr. Gu?*
Gu Li thought he was being hypocritical; that wasn't how he had addressed her last night or this morning.
