Volume 1, Chapter 29: She May Do Whatever She Wishes
Gu Li slept until two in the afternoon, only to be jolted awake by hunger.
The leader scrambled up from the floor, grabbed a chair, and slammed it hard against Liu Hong’s back with a resounding crack. Liu Hong merely swayed slightly; she did not let go. Instead, she tightened her grip, causing the bones in Qin Yao’s neck to creak audibly.
Li Zicheng observed the men on both sides standing in rigid formation. Tian Jianxiu looked uneasy, while Bai Roushui, He Xunzong, and Zhao Xundian stood with their hands pressed against their thighs, their backs instinctively hunched at a thirty-degree angle, not daring to draw a full breath.
“Retreat!” the Turkic general shouted in panic. This battle was never meant to be a fight to the death, and seeing the tide turn so decisively, fleeing was clearly the wisest course of action.
Though he desperately tried to reassure himself, he knew deep down that these people would never suddenly arrive. Even if they did, it was unlikely they could save Chu Liuxiang.
“Brother Mu, what do you think our chances of winning are tonight?” Li Xiaoming suddenly asked from the side.
Chu Liuxiang was left speechless. He could not bring himself to tell her that he sighed simply because he found her question too blunt. Some things did not need to be asked, yet she insisted on asking, and not just once, but repeatedly.
“I haven’t decided yet. The main issue is that I’ve never taught someone like him before,” Fang Quan replied with genuine seriousness, showing no sign of joking as he asked Du Xiaoyu for two more days.
For some reason, as she walked, she suddenly thought of Du Xiaoyu and the way it felt when they were together.
“Oh, what is this?” Liu Xiurong suddenly pointed to a yellowed booklet peeking out from Fan Ruoxing’s clothing.
The bald man took two deep drags of his cigarette, pulled out a flashlight, and cast a cylindrical beam of light into the darkness ahead.
Because of Qin Feng’s influence, the Great Tang maintained strict control over technology. Over the years, the technological progress of the Wa, Nu, and Baekje states had remained stagnant, placing all three nations in a dire situation.
Although Mo Chen felt a sense of being manipulated, he reconsidered: his goal in coming here was to save people, and since the outcome would be the same, there was no need to dwell on it. Besides, Lin Xiao had noticed nothing, and Mo Chen actually quite enjoyed the feeling of being needed.
Dark clouds hung low over the city, threatening to crush it. The terrifying, suffocating atmosphere descended, striking fear into the hearts of those assaulting the formation. They looked up in a panic, scanning their surroundings.
After tossing out such a harsh remark, Su Qin folded his arms and stared coldly into the distance, ignoring Ye Fei and the elderly Mr. Zuo Lianying.
Just as Meijie had ignored the laws of physics before her, she, a mage, had failed to notice a magical attack until it was nearly upon her. It was a textbook example of suffering a humiliating defeat in the most unexpected of ways.
While there were no composite rubber gloves in this world, the intestinal membranes of the Earth Fire Lizard served much the same purpose. Though expensive, they were essential gear for high-level alchemists and apothecaries; without protection, one could not handle toxic or corrosive raw materials safely.
Returning to the cultivation chamber, Lin Yi focused his mind. His body left the lotus throne and appeared within the room.
The monster, having lost one shoulder and arm, erupted with a fierce, baleful aura. It roared toward the heavens, and the sound waves manifested with such force that Ziyun and Ashou were instantly sent reeling, coughing up blood. Zhuge Leng fared even worse; she felt a sharp pain in her head, followed by blood streaming from her ears, nose, and the corners of her mouth.
